Kathern M. “Blondie” Barry, 78, passed away September 2, 2022, at Hays Medical Center. She was born on October 26, 1943, at Great Bend, to Harvey &amp; Albertia (Blair) Barry.

Blondie was a lifetime Great Bend resident, having worked for Barry Tree Service and the Salvation Army. She loved bright colors and enjoyed sharing gifts with family and friends. Blondie had a heart of gold and especially loved spending time with her family, pets and nature.

Survivors include, a sister, Evon Gallant of Great Bend; a brother, David M. Blair, Sr., of Leonardville, Kan.; and numerous nieces and nephews, including, Shawnda Gallant, Tony Morgan and Barry Gallant; She was preceded in death by her parents; an infant brother, Nathine Barry; a brother, Howard Barry; and two half-sisters, Una Helmric and Diane Kirkham.

Visitation will be held from Noon to 8:00 p.m., Wednesday, September 7, 2022, at Bryant Funeral Home, with family to receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, September 8, 2022, at Bryant Funeral Home, with Reverend Dick Ogle presiding. Logan resident Lloyd A. Becker passed away September 4, 2022, at the
 Logan Manor at the age of 96.&nbsp; He was born April 12, 1926, in Phillips

Marvin J. Kaiser, 81, Hays, died Thursday, September 1, 2022 at HaysMed.

He was born October 12, 1940 in Great Bend the son of Joe L. and Regina (Debes) Kaiser. In 1958, he graduated from Odin High School and later served in the U.S. Army Reserves during the Cuban Missile Crisis. He worked as a manufactured housing executive, and for the majority of his career worked for Marlette Homes, now Clayton Homes. He had a love for farming and working cattle. On December 30, 1961 he was united in marriage to Bernice M. Rziha in Odin, and they were married nearly 61 years. He served on the Claflin School Board of Education, Kansas State Special Olympics Board, coached Claflin Recreation softball and baseball, McPherson American Legion Baseball, and Catholic school basketball. Marvin’s memberships included St. Nicholas of Myra Catholic Church, St. Nicholas Third Degree Knights of Columbus Council # 10044, and the Bishop Cunningham Fourth Degree Assembly #282. During his 65 years in the Knights of Columbus, Marvin held many offices including: Faithful Navigator, Grand Knight, District Deputy, State Officer, Former State Advocate, and as Membership Director, started 16 new councils. He loved his grandchildren, enjoyed spoiling them, and was proud to be called Great Papa.

Survivors include his wife Bernice of Hays, a son: Brian Kaiser and wife Lynne of Wichita, a daughter: Paula Beck and husband Andy of Hays, a brother: Gilbert Kaiser and wife Kathy of Kingman, two sisters: Jolene Rziha and husband Jim of Great Bend, Marilyn Ricke of Hoisington, a sister-in-law: Lucille Kaiser of Hoisington, three grandchildren: Shawn Kaiser of Wichita, Jenna Barnthson and husband Beau of Olathe, and Brandon Beck of New York City, NY, a great granddaughter: Aleena Barnthson, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 am on Tuesday, September 6, 2022 at St. Nicholas of Myra Catholic Church with Fr. Damian Richards Officiating. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5:00 pm until 8:00 on Monday and from 9:30 am until 10:15 on Tuesday, all at Hays Memorial Chapel Funeral Home. Marvin Kaiser, age 81

Dale C Schadel was born May 16, 1938 to Ray and Inez (Miller) Schadel in Larned Ks. He passed from this life on September 2, 2022.

He graduated from Alexander High School and met and later married his life long sweetheart Donna Brack. They were married November 18, 1953. In 1956 they moved from the homestead farm to Great Bend where Dale worked in the oilfield. In 1960 the family moved to the farm north of Ellinwood where they live for 48 years. Dale worked for Marlette Homes for 23 years until the plant closed in 1985. Dale went to work at Kansas Department of Transportation until he retired.

He loved hunting and fishing, with goose hunting being his favorite. He met many lifetime friends while hunting.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Dean Schadel and son Stan Schadel. He leaves behind his wife, Donna of the home, daughter Dalonna Chavez, Joplin Mo., son Russell Schadel, Ellinwood, 5 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, and many nephews and nieces and many hunting buddies.

Services will be held at Ellinwood United Methodist Church, September 6, 2022 at 2:00 PM. Interment will follow at Lakin-Comanche Cemetery, Ellinwood. There will be no visitation. Dale Schadel, age 84

Virginia "Ginny" Brown, age 79, of Garnett passed away Aug. 28, 2022, at her home.

Ginny was born in Winfield on July 25, 1943. She was the fourth of five children born to Jesse McKibben and Mary (Seley) McKibben. On Jan. 29, 1959, Ginny married Cloyd "Pee Wee" Brown in Chilocco, Okla. Their union was blessed with three children, Teresa, Cindy, and Jesse. Ginny and Pee Wee have lived in Garnett since 1988. While in Garnett, Ginny worked at Pence's IGA for 10 years until the store's closing. In her free time she enjoyed tending her garden and flowers, but her greatest joy was her grandkids.

She was preceded in death by her parents Jesse and Mary McKibben; three brothers, Frank, Lloyd, and Merle.

Ginny is survived by her three children: Teresa Hollan and husband, Roy, of Garnett; Cindy Janway and husband, Teddy, of Heavener, Okla.; and Jesse Brown and wife, Linda, of Garnett; nine grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren, and one sister, Phyllis Kelley and husband, Pat, of Winfield.

Private family services are planned for a later date. Arrangements were handled by Feuerborn Family Funeral Service in Garnett.

Larned – Mary Lou Smith, 96, passed away Friday, September 2, 2022 at Country Living in Larned.

She was born November 7, 1925 to Walter B and Maud Romig Rumsey.

On December 1, 1944 she married Virgil John Smith. Virgil died May 27, 1977.

Mary Lou was a lifelong area resident, a farm wife and homemaker. She was an elder and active member of the Presbyterian Church, PEO Chapter CB, and a Santa Fe Trail Museum Board Member. She was a good cook and enjoyed horseback riding and painting.

Mary Lou is survived by: a son, Richard Vance (Susan) Smith, Larned; six grandchildren; ten great grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Mary Rumsey, Wisconsin, and many nieces, nephews, and friends.

She was preceded in death by: her parents; her husband; two brothers; Walter Rumsey and Reed Rumsey; and her son; John David Smith.

Memorial service will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, September 9, 2022 at the First Presbyterian Church, Larned, with Pastor Bill Stapleton presiding. Visitation will be 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Thursday, September 8, 2022 at Beckwith Mortuary, Larned.

Mary Lou Smith, age 96

St. John – James Douglas Soden, 78, of rural St. John, Kansas ceased living on September 1, 2022 at his home in rural Stafford County. He lived that life in St. John graduating from St. John High School in 1961. He attended Drury College in Springfield, Missouri and Kansas State Teachers College in Emporia, Kansas. James returned to Stafford County in 1964 to live and work on the farm established by his grandparents, T.A. and Sara Eula Malin, in 1919. He also farmed for his father, H.I. Soden. He developed irrigation on these properties. James repaired, maintained and built his farming equipment, taking pride in clean, well-kept machinery.

After retiring from farming, he expanded his interest in guns to collecting and gunsmithing. He continued his love for machinery by downsizing to utility tractors and their attachments, using them at their eastern Kansas lake cabin and the farmstead, to the benefit of friends and neighbors as well.

James leaves his wife, Karen of 38 years. He also leaves her children and grandchildren, who considered him their second father and “Grandpa Jim”: Darren (Dessa) Brown and Farren; Brian (Kris) Brown and Schuyler Brown, Katrena Brown, Kourtney (Tristan) Smith and Kerisa Brown. He is also survived by a cousin, John Davidson.

He was preceded in death by a loving aunt, Helen Malin Reuber, who loved the farm as much as James did.

Visitation will be 1pm – 6pm Saturday September 10th, at Beckwith Mortuary Chapel with family present from 4pm-6pm. A private inurnment will be held at a later date.

James Soden, age 78

Donald H. Burton, 97, of Russell, Kansas, passed away Tuesday, July 26, 2022 at Main Street Manor of Russell.

Donald was born June 2, 1925 in Hays, Kansas. He was the son of Harold N. and Helen M. (Truan) Burton. They lived in Hays and moved to Russell when he started school. He graduated from Russell High School in 1943.

Donald served his country in the U.S. Army Air Corp from 1943 to 1945. He was a Bombardier Navigator and a Flying Warrant Officer. After his tour of duty, he returned to Kansas and attended Kansas University School of Pharmacy from which he graduated in 1952.

Donald was united in marriage to Jaclyn Louise Lewis on August 29, 1949 in Russell. This union was blessed with a son, Hal. They lived in Russell for a few years before moving to Beloit, Kansas in 1955. Then in 1959 they moved to Great Bend, Kansas. In 1967 they purchased a pharmacy in Russell and operated Burton Pharmacy until it’s closing in 1990.

Donald was a Pharmacist in Russell, Beloit and Great Bend. In his later career he served as a relief pharmacist in a dozen Central and Western Kansas towns. He received an Award for over 60 years in Pharmacy from the Kansas Board of Pharmacy. He enjoyed collecting jazz records, tending his flower garden and working and carving of wood.

Donald’s surviving family include his son, Hal Burton of Russell, Kansas; sisters, Helen Lynn Coyle of Georgetown, Texas and Cynthia Burton Jones of Georgetown, Texas; two nieces and five nephews.

Donald was preceded in death by his parents, wife Jaclyn on January 26, 2021, and sisters, Patricia Hower and Beverly Maupin.

Celebration of Life and Musical Tribute for Donald will be held at 11 A.M. on Wednesday, September 14, 2022, at the Deines Cultural Center of Russell. Cremation has been selected by the family and burial of ashes will follow at the Russell City Cemetery. Family will be present to greet friends from 10 A.M. to service time. Memorials have been established with the Deines Cultural Center or Smoky Hill Public Television. After his tour of duty, he returned to Kansas and attended Kansas University School of Pharmacy from which he graduated in 1952.Donald was united in marriage to Jaclyn Louise Lewis on August 29, 1949 in Russell. This union was blessed with a son, Hal. They lived in Russell for a few years before moving to Beloit, Kansas in 1955. Then in 1959 they moved to Great Bend, Kansas. In 1967 they purchased a pharmacy in Russell and operated Burton Pharmacy until it’s closing in 1990.Donald was a Pharmacist in Russell, Beloit and Great Bend. In his later career he served as a relief pharmacist in a dozen Central and Western Kansas towns. He received an Award for over 60 years in Pharmacy from the Kansas Board of Pharmacy. He enjoyed collecting jazz records, tending his flower garden and working and carving of wood.Donald’s surviving family include his son, Hal Burton of Russell, Kansas; sisters, Helen Lynn Coyle of Georgetown, Texas and Cynthia Burton Jones of Georgetown, Texas; two nieces and five nephews.Donald was preceded in death by his parents, wife Jaclyn on January 26, 2021, and sisters, Patricia Hower and Beverly Maupin.Celebration of Life and Musical Tribute for Donald will be held at 11 A.M. on Wednesday, September 14, 2022, at the Deines Cultural Center of Russell. Cremation has been selected by the family and burial of ashes will follow at the Russell City Cemetery. Family will be present to greet friends from 10 A.M. to service time. Memorials have been established with the Deines Cultural Center or Smoky Hill Public Television. Jeffrey John Riedesel

Jack D. Richardson, 84, passed away on August 29, 2022, at Integris Baptist Medical Center, Oklahoma City, Okla. He was born on February 2, 1938, at Arkansas City, Kansas to Fred &amp; Edith (Sanner) Richardson. On March 7, 1957, Jack married Sharolyn “Shari” Rowe in Winfield, Kan. She passed on April 14, 2004.

Coming to Great Bend in 1969, Jack worked in the oilfield and truck driving for over 40 years for Slawson Drilling and Jack B. Kelley, prior to his retirement. The rig hands always talked about the strength of his hands. Jack got great satisfaction playing practical jokes on everyone. “Grandpa Jack” enjoyed spending time with his grandson and great-grandchildren, watching them play sports.

Survivors include a daughter: Vicki Richardson of Great Bend, Kan.; a daughter-in-law, Carla Richardson, of Woodward, Okla.; a grandson, Josh (Lexi) Richardson, of Edmond, Okla.; three sisters: Margaret, Betty and Joan.; two step grandsons, Brandon and Kevin Williams; a step granddaughter, PeggySue Brown; and several great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Shari Richardson; a son, David Richardson; three brothers; and two sisters.

Graveside services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Friday, September 2, 2022, at Hillcrest Memorial Park, with Pastor Larry Schumacher presiding. In lieu of flowers, memorials have been designated to United Way of Central Kansas’ Laundry Love Project, in care of Bryant Funeral Home.

Gregory Alan Irving, 62, passed away August 27, 2022, at Hospice House in Hutchinson. He was born on August 12, 1960, at Philadelphia, Penn. to Henry &amp; Gertrude (Sullivan) Irving.

A longtime resident of Great Bend, Gregory was an over the road truck driver. He enjoyed building computers, working on cars and the Kansas City Chiefs. He loved family get-togethers, especially the 4th of July.

Survivors include, his children, Matthew Irving, Richard Irving and Alisha Kitterman all of Great Bend and Cory Kitterman of Larned; three sisters, Gloria Orebaugh of Ellinwood, Sandra Byington of Great Bend and Carol Henson of Hutchinson; a step brother, Detlef Snyder of Iowa; and step sister Barbara Stoffel of Iowa; and a grandson, Richard Irving. He was preceded in death by his parents and a step sister, Monica Smith.

There will be no visitation as cremation has taken place. Graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, September 2, 2022, at the Hoisington Cemetery with Pastor Ken Gray presiding. Memorials have been designated to the Gregory Irving Expense Fund, in care of Bryant Funeral Home.

Richard A. Cramer, age 83 years, of Great Bend and formerly of Hill City,&nbsp; passed away on Friday morning, Aug. 26, 2022 at the University of Kansas Health Systems – Great Bend Campus.&nbsp; Richard was born Feb. 22, 1939, in Omaha, Neb. to Donald T. and Elinor A. (Sprieck) Cramer.&nbsp; He was united in marriage to Mary L. Kreuzburg on June 17, 1962 in Hiawatha.&nbsp; Richard was a U.S. Army veteran, and worked as city manager for the city of Hiawatha for two years, and then as city manager for the city of Hill City for 14 years.&nbsp; He was also a self-employed auctioneer, and did many benefit auctions over the years. Richard had served as Chairman of the Little Britches Rodeo and also the Jayhawker Roundup Rodeo in Hill City for many years.&nbsp; He was a 60-year member of Hiawatha Masonic Lodge No. 35 A.F. &amp; A.M. at Hiawatha and a member of the First Christian Church at Great Bend.

Survivors include his wife, Mary L. Cramer of Great Bend; two sons:&nbsp; Troy (&amp; Dawn) Cramer of Salina, and Travis L. (&amp; Janae) Cramer of Bennington; one daughter, Tiffany (&amp; Taylor) Jones of Manhattan; seven grandchildren:&nbsp; Taylor, Jacob, and Trevor Cramer, McKenzie and Malory Cramer, Levi and Hunter Jones.&nbsp; Richard was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, David Cramer.

Richard Cramer, age 83

Orland “Slim” Ochs, “Jr.”, died August 1, 2022, at Clara Barton Hospital, Hoisington, Kansas. He was born November 11, 1951, in Hays, Kansas, the son of Orland and Fern (Crotinger) Ochs.

Orland served in the Army from 1973 to 1977, where he earned the rank of SP5 with the 101st Airborne Division and was also awarded the Sharpshooter M-16 badge. During his time in the Army he was stationed in Germany and various bases all over the United States.

Upon his honorable discharge he returned home and worked as a truck driver. Driving for Jack B. Kelly Trucking. He later worked in the maintenance department and as a security guard for CKMC and then Superior Essex.

Orland was most often seen riding around in his favorite old truck on his many ag tours and tinkering on the farm. The farm was his happiest place to be whether it was on the mower or fixing one of his many project engines. He was a selfless man giving to many charities, not wanting much for himself, and preferring to live a simple life. He was also known to leave a treasure of loose change in his wake.

He is survived by two sisters; Charlotte (Ron) Schneider of Great Bend, and Linda (Alan) Bartonek of Salina; six nieces and nephews, Scott (Sharon) Long of Onega, Mike (Dana) Long of Lincoln, Nebraska, Shannon (Orleny) Schneider of Pueblo, Colorado, Charla Schneider and Dan Bartonek, both of Great Bend, and Lynae (Greg) Curtis, of Hoisington; and many great and great-great nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Margaret Long.

Friends may sign the book, there will be no viewing as cremation has taken place. Family will greet friends from 6 to 8 p.m., Friday, September 2 nd, at Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home.

Korbin Ray Tinkel, 7 years old, of Wamego, Kansas, passed away August 13, 2022, at Children’s Mercy Hospital in Kansas City, Missouri. Korbin became a hero that day, donating his organs to 5 other individuals. Korbin’s caring heart allowed others to live on through him.

Korbin was born April 19, 2015, in Manhattan, Kansas, the son of Randy and Jillian (Schroeder) Tinkel. He was a second grader at Central Elementary School in Wamego and now a forever Super Raider.

Korbin was very active and loved playing golf. He won several junior golf tournaments for his age group this past summer and loved spending time at the golf course with his Dad. Korbin also enjoyed spending time around his Dad’s big trucks and any other type of equipment that might be around, eager to learn as much as he possibly could. In addition to golf, Korbin loved swimming, playing soccer and baseball, and especially wrestling with his little brother Krew. Korbin loved going to church with his Daddy and was a member of St. Bernard Catholic Church with his family.

Korbin is survived by his mother, Jillian and brother, Krew, Wamego; his grandfather, Darrell Tinkel, Great Bend; grandfather, Jeff Schroeder and partner Becky May, Manhattan; Uncle Jared and Uncle Josh Schroeder (Becky), Manhattan; as well as many other cousins, extended family, and friends.

Korbin Tinkel, age 7

Randy Lee Tinkel, 37, of Wamego, Kansas, passed away, August 10, 2022, as the result of an automobile accident east of Wamego. &nbsp;

Randy was born January 24, 1985, in Great Bend, Kansas, the son of Darrell and Carma (Juergensen) Tinkel.&nbsp;&nbsp;Randy was a graduate of Great Bend High School where he was a standout athlete and he attended Barton County Community College as well as Manhattan Technical College. Randy loved to play sports all the way into his adult years. Within the past 5 years, Randy took up golf and was the captain of the WCC K-Cup team. His passion for golf trickled down to Korbin, and most of their time together was spent on the course. As an avid outdoorsman, Randy also enjoyed hunting and participating in coyote hunting contests.

Randy was the owner and operator of RT Trucking in Wamego and had become very well known in the area for his driveway and decorative rock business. Randy had a true passion for his business and was proud of all he had accomplished.

Randy married Jillian Crystal Schroeder on September 24, 2011, in Manhattan.&nbsp; She survives at their home.

Randy is survived by his son, Krew, also of the home; and his father, Darrell Tinkel, Great Bend. Father-in-law, Jeff Schroeder and partner Becky May, Brother-in-law, Jared Schroeder, Manhattan, Brother-in-law Josh Schroeder and wife Becky, Manhattan and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.&nbsp; Randy was preceded in death by his mother Carma as well as his Mother-in-law Rhonda.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 6:00 p.m., Monday, August 29, 2022, at St. Bernard Catholic Church in Wamego.&nbsp; Father Mike Peterson will be the Celebrant. Burial will follow at St. Bernard Catholic Cemetery.&nbsp; A rosary prayer service will be held at 5:30 p.m.

 </figure>Randy Lee Tinkel, 37, of Wamego, Kansas, passed away, August 10, 2022, as the result of an automobile accident east of Wamego. &nbsp;Randy was born January 24, 1985, in Great Bend, Kansas, the son of Darrell and Carma (Juergensen) Tinkel.&nbsp;&nbsp;Randy was a graduate of Great Bend High School where he was a standout athlete and he attended Barton County Community College as well as Manhattan Technical College. Randy loved to play sports all the way into his adult years. Within the past 5 years, Randy took up golf and was the captain of the WCC K-Cup team. His passion for golf trickled down to Korbin, and most of their time together was spent on the course. As an avid outdoorsman, Randy also enjoyed hunting and participating in coyote hunting contests.Randy was the owner and operator of RT Trucking in Wamego and had become very well known in the area for his driveway and decorative rock business. Randy had a true passion for his business and was proud of all he had accomplished.Randy married Jillian Crystal Schroeder on September 24, 2011, in Manhattan.&nbsp; She survives at their home.Randy is survived by his son, Krew, also of the home; and his father, Darrell Tinkel, Great Bend. George Russel Shelton, age 91, passed away on Friday, Aug. 19, 2022, in St. John. He was born on Dec. 7, 1930, in Arnett, Okla. He was the son of Andrew Guy and Pearl (Nichols) Shelton. George served in the U.S. Army from 1951-1953. On Dec. 29, 1955, he married Shirley J. (Sigler) in Borger, Texas. George was a resident of St. John since 1969, coming from Minneola. He was a minister, realtor, mail carrier, Phillips Chemical employee, and a bus driver for the St. John School District.

George was a minister of the Church of Christ and a member of the Kansas Realtor Association. George will be missed by his loving wife, Shirley; daughters, Michelle (Richard) Brensing, Stafford, Natalie Lippoldt, St. John, Shannon (Darrell) Bauer, Hudson, Kari (Craig) Smith, Great Bend, Krista (Rick) McGaugh, Fayetteville, Ark., and a son, Jacob (Kelly Lynn) Shelton, Charlotte, N.C.; 17 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by both parents; a son, Russel Dean Shelton; brothers, Calvin, Owen, Dennis, Joe, Jay Roger, and John Shelton and a sister, Hazel Campbell.

George Shelton, age 91

Faye Lucille Will, 84, La Crosse, Kansas, passed away Sunday, August 14, 2022, at Rush County Memorial Hospital Intermediate Swing Bed, La Crosse, Kansas.

Faye was born August 25, 1937, in Gilead, Nebraska, the daughter of William Adolf and Lucille Viola (Borovicka) Peperkorn. She was a resident of Rush County, Kansas, for 50+ years, moving from Colorado. A 1955 graduate of Hebron High School, Hebron, Nebraska. Faye was a bank teller for Farmers Bank &amp; Trust, formerly The Home State Bank, La Crosse, Kansas, for 30+ years before her retirement.

She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Great Bend, Kansas; and attended services at Hope Lutheran Church, Rush Center, Kansas, and First Lutheran Church, La Crosse, Kansas.

The sun and moon in her life were her son and daughter, Steve and Denise, her four grandchildren, and her 7 ½ great grandchildren.

Faye enjoyed and spent many hours watching her grandchildren’s sporting events. She also enjoyed quilting.

In 1957, she married Don Richardson at Hebron, Nebraska. They were blessed with two children, Steve and Denise.

She later married Reverend Kenneth J. Will on June 9, 1967, at Denver, Colorado. He preceded her in death March 16, 2016.

Survivors include: one son, Steve Richardson, La Crosse, Kansas; one daughter, Denise Morrison (Steve), Hoisington, Kansas; four grandchildren, Casey Morrison (Nichole), Albert, Kansas, Carla Schartz (Lance), Andover, Kansas, Abigail Jonas (Shane), Hoisington, Kansas, and Stephanie Koochel (Ethan), Manhattan, Kansas; seven great grandchildren with an eighth on the way; and one sister, Janice Wulfkeotter (Darold), Olathe, Kansas.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one brother, William “Billy” Peperkorn, and his wife, Lucille; an infant brother, Fredrick Peperkorn; and one sister, Norma Corliss, and her husband, Raymond.

Per Faye’s wishes, the family has chosen cremation.

A graveside memorial service will be Saturday, August 27, 2022, at 11:00 A.M. at the La Crosse City Cemetery, La Crosse, Kansas. Inurnment will be in the La Crosse City Cemetery, La Crosse, Kansas.

James William Beer, 70, passed away Aug. 18, 2022, at his home in Larned.

He was born July 10, 1952 in Larned, the son of Wayne Eugene and Esther Alice Conard Beer.

A lifetime area resident, he was of the Methodist faith. He was a fabricator for Doerr Metal and worked in the power plant at Larned State Hospital. He attended Hutchinson Community College and was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and the VFW Auxiliary.

Survivors include: two brothers, Steven W. (Sharlou Messerschmidt) Beer, Wichita, Robert E. Beer, Telluride, Colo.; sister, Jeanne Beer, Larned; three nephews, Kevin Beer, Kyle Beer, Danny Sherrid; three nieces, Tonya Long, Sabrina Quinn, Stephanie Yahne; and numerous great nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, John F. Beer, and sister, Onalee E. Sherrid.

Cremation has taken place and no services are planned at this time.

James Beer, age 70

Larry Laverne Bernard was called to his Heavenly Home on Aug. 17, 2022 with family by his side.&nbsp; He was born on August 15, 1953, in Imperial, NE to Marlin &amp; Pat Bernard.&nbsp; &nbsp;

Larry was a lifelong educator who enjoyed his roles as a teacher, coach, and principal.&nbsp; He graduated from Osborne High School and continued his studies in education graduating from Fort Hays State University.&nbsp; He retired from Russell High School as the principal in 2017 after over 40 years in education. &nbsp;Outside of serving his community, Larry also had a passion for riding horses, flying his plane, and drawing simple sketches for all to enjoy.&nbsp; Most of all he loved spending time with his family!&nbsp; He was always looking for a chance to take them to a movie, take them swimming, catch a Nebraska football game, help build anything, shoot a gun, drink some coffee and they never left his home hungry!&nbsp; Larry loved his family!&nbsp;

Larry was preceded in death by his father Marlin Bernard.&nbsp;

Larry is survived by his wife Julie Bernard of Russell, KS; mother Pat Bernard of Osborne, KS; 3 sons: Shad (Amy) Bernard of Dayton, OH; Shay (Andrea) Bernard of Overland Park, KS; Shon (Renee) Bernard of Lewisburg, WV; and their mother Jenny (Bill) Prichard of Topeka, KS; Stepdaughter Hailey (Cody) Braz of St. Francis, KS; Stepson Brady (Jess) Frewen of Brighton, CO; 3 brothers Kenny (Dani Jo) Bernard of Kanopolis, KS; Danny (Deb) Bernard of Russell, KS; Kelly Bernard of Ellsworth, KS; and 10 grandchildren and host of nieces and nephews.&nbsp;

Patricia Bernice Hemken, 69, passed away after a three-year battle with cancer on Aug. 17, 2022, peacefully at home in Great Bend. She was born on Jan. 31, 1953, at Pawnee Rock, to Edwin &amp; Margaret (Halda) Hemken.

Coming from Larned to Great Bend in 1994, Patricia spent her working life as an LPN for Larned State Hospital. She loved her family, plants, and fur baby: Kody Bear Daytona Dreamer.

Survivors include long-time significant other Steve Fellers, of the home; one daughter, Shawna (Trey) Fiesterman of Great Bend; on granddaughter, Paige Barry of Great Bend; two brothers, Edwin (Diana) Hemken of Derby and Robert (Mo) Hemken of Pawnee Rock; and three sisters, Dorothy Hessman of Dodge City, Joyce Hemken of Alvin, Texas, and Sue (Jim) Wozniak of Bovins, Ark. She is preceded in death by her parents and sister, Janis Folkerts.

There will be no visitation as cremation has taken place. Per Patricia’s wishes, there will not be a memorial service. Memorials have been designated to the Golden Belt Humane Society, in care of Bryant Funeral Home.

A longtime area resident, he was a member of the First Christian Church in Great Bend, International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers: IBEW Local 304, Mack Flying Club, and a lifetime member of the National Benchrest Shooters Association. At six years old he was baptized at the First Christian Church, Great Bend, with his mom, dad, and sister, all on the same day. He graduated from Great Bend High School in 1963 and attended Kansas State University. Following his college graduation, he enlisted in the Army National Guard from 1966 to 1972 and attended training in Fort Campbell, Kentucky, home of the 101st Airborne. He was a Foreman for the City of St. John Electrical Department, then later worked for PAR Electric where he retired after 20+ years. In his spare time, he enjoyed flying model airplanes, benchrest shooting, model boats, fishing, and spending time with his family.

Survivors include: his daughter, Kalla (Mike Jr.) Miller, Stafford, and four grandchildren: Mason, Westen, Wyatt, and McKay; his friend, Carol Martin and their two dogs, Desirea and Luna Belle.

He was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Virena Walls, and brother-in-law, Tommy Walls.

Funeral service will be 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, August 24, 2022 at Beckwith Mortuary Chapel, Larned, with Pastor Wade Russell presiding. Visitation will be 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, August 23, 2022 at Beckwith Mortuary, Larned. Burial will be in Great Bend Cemetery.

Michael Estes, age 77

Clifton Wade Rodriguez, 35, passed away August 18, 2022 at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita.

He was born July 16, 1987 in Elkhart, the son of Larry Eduardo Rodriguez and Laura Kay Ash.

A longtime area resident, he was a tire shop technician at Sebes Tire in Larned. He enjoyed hunting, shooting, fishing, camping, and all things outdoors. He loved spending time with his friends and family.

On May 15, 2015 he married Evette Hostetler in Canon City, Colorado; she survives.

Other survivors include: two daughters, Rionna Rodriguez, Great Bend, Lydia Collins Rodriguez, Kinsley; seven brothers, Michael (Shauna) Hester, Larned, Wesley Rodriguez, Larned, Larry Hester, Great Falls, Montana, Galen Andrew Hester, Camp Verde, Arizona, Larry (Susie) Rodriguez Jr., Amarillo, Texas, Rudy (Debra) Rodriguez, Amarillo, Texas, Jessie Rodriguez, Amarillo, Texas; three sisters, Tammy Hester, Corcoran, California, Diana (Clayton) Brown, Forgan, Oklahoma, Lori (Ron) Egen, Amarillo, Texas.

Amy E. Yeager, 48, passed away August 12, 2022 in Manhattan.

She was born March 31, 1974 in Hutchinson, the daughter of Michael Yeager and Ann Shackelford.

She was a homemaker and a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Larned.

Survivors include: her parents, Mike (Jill) Yeager, Larned, Ann (D.J.) Chance, Claremore, Oklahoma; daughter, Hailey Russell, Manhattan; son, Hunter Shoffner, Asheville, North Carolina; three sisters, Jenny (Bryon) Machado, Miami, Oklahoma, Kristen Stitt, Wichita, Katherine (Aaron) Pohl, Lansing; two brothers, Luke Brown and Sean (Amber) Brown, both of Hutchinson; grandparents, Geneva Pivonka, Larned, Connie Ratliff, Larned; two nieces, Addison Machado and Ashlyn Pohl; nephew, Maddox Machado; and her four-legged-pal, Lucy.

She was preceded in death by her son, Sam Doherty.

Funeral service will be 10:00 a.m. Monday, August 22, 2022 at the First Presbyterian Church, Larned, with Pastor Dennis Scheibmeir presiding. Amy Yeager, age 48

Richard L. Tennant, 86, died August 17, 2022, at Ascension Via Christi St. Francis Hospital, Wichita, Kansas. He was born June 1, 1936, in Magic City, Texas, the son of Glenard “Whitie” and Thelma Grace (Bridges) Tennant. Richard graduated from Lefors High School in 1955.

On June 2, 1957, he married his high school sweetheart, Ann Stracner at the Baptist Church in Lefors, Texas.

Richard worked his whole life in the oil field in many different aspects. He started with Sinclair Oil and Gas as a roustabout, a truck driver, and a pumper. They were later bought out by Atlantic Richfield where he worked his way from truck driver to foreman. Retiring in 2000 with British Petroleum as a supervisor.

Richard and Ann moved with his oil field jobs, living in Stafford and Medicine Lodge, and finally moving to Claflin in 1974. He was active in the Volunteer Fire Departments in Stafford, Medicine Lodge and eventually Claflin where he was also an EMT. He was a member of the Claflin United Methodist Church, the Hoisington Masonic Lodge #331, the Golden Sheaf Order of the Eastern Star Chapter #226, and the Midian Shrine Center, receiving 50 year pins in each respectively.

He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Ann Tennant of the home; and two daughters, Melinda Crager and husband Ron of Wichita and Gracie Demel and husband Roy of Ellinwood; 8 grandchildren, and 11 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Visitaiton will be 2 p.m. to 8 p.m., Sunday, with family to greet friends from 6 to 8 p.m., at Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home.

Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m., Monday, August 22, 2022, at Claflin United Methodist Church, with Pastor Diana Webster presiding. Burial will follow in Claflin Cemetery.
