Gladys M. Nettleingham, 92, died September 14, 2022, at Medicalodges, Great Bend, Kansas. She was born February 27, 1930, on the farm near Susank, Kansas, the daughter of Emanuel and Alma E. (Miller) Ehrlich.

On May 17, 1948, she married LaVerne Eugene Nettleingham at the Emmaus Lutheran Church, Hoisington, Kansas.

Gladys was a tried and true farm wife, working along side LaVerne and raising their four children together on the farm near Galatia. She was a longtime member of Concordia Lutheran Church, teaching Sunday School for over 40 years. Gladys was also active on the Election Board and as a project leader for 4-H. She was talented with needle and thread, enjoying embroidery work and being part of the Nifty Needleworkers Club. She loved bowling, time outside gardening, watching her birds, and cheering on her Royals team.

She is survived by; two sons, Kent Nettleingham and Kevin Nettleingham, both of Galatia; daughter, Colette Keeler and husband Ray of Great Bend; son-in-law, Steve Bilyew of Claflin; brother, Leonard Ehrlich of Great Bend; and sister, Irene Jacobs of Great Bend; eight grandchildren, three step grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, six step great grandchildren, and two step great great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, LaVerne Nettleingham, daughter, Coleen Bilyew, daughter-in-law, Suzy Nettleingham, and a brother, Roland Ehrlich.

Visitation will be 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., Friday, with family to greet friends from 6 to 8 p.m., all at the funeral home.

Funeral service will be 10 a.m., Saturday, September 17, 2022, at Concordia Lutheran Church, Hoisington, with Rev. Gary Wolf presiding. Burial will follow in Hoisington Cemetery.

Mickey Yvonne Jones, 79, died September 13, 2022, at Legend of 
Hutchinson. She was born December 3, 1942, in Kingman, to Eugene E. and 
Elizabeth “Dixie” (Dixon) Fisher.

Mickey graduated from Fairfield South High School, Turon.&nbsp; She 
received her Bachelor of Music Education Degree from Fort Hays State 
University, where she was certified to teach both instrumental and vocal
 music. After graduation, Mickey found her true passion as an elementary
 school vocal music teacher.&nbsp; She instilled her infectious love of music
 to her students and two children.&nbsp; Mickey also taught in her home both 
private voice and piano lessons, and prepared hundreds of students for 
music contests. Prior to moving to Hutchinson, Mickey was active in the 
Bucklin United Methodist Church, where she served as choir director, and
 was a member of the Dodge City Sweet Adelines.&nbsp;&nbsp; In addition, Mickey 
was the director for the 21st Century Learning Academy in 
Mullinville, helping countless students receive their high school 
diploma.&nbsp; Mickey enjoyed collecting Hummels, and was member of Delta 
Kappa Gamma, Trinity United Methodist Church, Hutchinson and DOERS 
Sunday school class.

On December 22, 1963, she married John Paul Jones, at College Hill United Methodist Church, Wichita.

Mickey is survived by:&nbsp; her husband of almost 59 years, John Paul of 
Hutchinson; children, Jason Jones (Tracy) of Hesston, Jacque Wilburn 
(Darren) of Overland Park; sister, Donna Fisher of Wichita; 
grandchildren, Alexander Eckhoff (Kayla), Nicholas Eckhoff, Jace Jones, 
Chrision Wilburn, Alayna Wilburn, Kyra Wilburn, Dalyn Wilburn, and 
Quinton Wilburn; great-grandson, Elliott Eckhoff; great-granddaughter, 
Adelaide Eckhoff; niece, Suzi Casement (Bert Boden); seven foreign 
exchange students; and her beloved dog, Joey.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a daughter, Julie Michele Jones.

Funeral service will be 11:00 a.m. Monday, September 19, 2022, at 
Trinity United Methodist Church, 1602 N. Main, Hutchinson, with the 
Reverend Dr. Kim Biery officiating.&nbsp; Graveside service will follow at

Kent Gale Kriley

Nadine Kay Erskin, 76, passed away September 12, 2022, at her home in Garden City. She was born on May 1, 1946, in Great Bend, to Earl N. Adams, Sr. &amp; Mildred (Thomason) Adams. She married Jim Newkirk on May 1, 1962, in Great Bend and they later divorced. Two children were born to this union; Mike and Angela. She then married Joe Erskin on April 11, 1987, in Hoisington, and he survives.

A resident of Great Bend until 1987 when she moved to Garden City, Nadine was a deaf interpreter for the Holcomb School District, Garden City School District and Garden City Community College. She formerly attended First Street Church of God in Hoisington and First United Methodist Church of Garden City. Nadine was a passionate collector of Mickey Mouse memorabilia and especially loved to spend time with her family. She will be fondly remembered for her generous and caring heart.

Survivors include, her husband, Joe Erskin of the home; a son, Mike Newkirk and wife Tana and a daughter, Angela Noblitt and husband Robert, all of Great Bend; two brothers, Johnny Adams of Susank and Freddie Ross of Pawnee Rock; six grandchildren, Michel Maneth and husband Trevor, Kimber Wedel and husband Tyler, Trey Newkirk and wife Zora, Samantha Thier and husband Aaron, Shanda DeYoung and husband Ryan and Sheridan Beaumont; and seven great grandchildren, Pyper Maneth, Ryker Maneth, Killian Wedel, Teagan Wedel, Delton Thier, Bryson Their and Hudson Thier. She was preceded in passing by her father Earl N. Adams, Sr.; parents, Mildred and Waldo Ross; and two brothers, Delbert Adams, Sr. and Earl N. Adams, Jr.

William J. Tucker, age 85, a proud veteran of the United States Navy and National Guard, passed away September 10, 2022, at the Central Nebraska Veterans Home in Kearney, NE.

William, or Bill as he was affectionately known, was born January 27, 1937, in Chicago, IL to Adolph and Gladys (née Vinpany) Tucker. Bill enjoyed many self-employment jobs throughout his life, a mechanic, tree trimmer, plumber, and a "Jack of all Trades, Master of None." He was most proud of the time he spent serving his country as a sailor in the United States Navy and then later as a soldier in the National Guard.

Bill accepted Jesus as his Lord and Savior at Christmastime in 2018.

Caroletta Ruth “Carol” Larkin, 78, La Crosse, Kansas, passed away 
Monday, September 12, 2022, at Locust Grove Village, La Crosse, Kansas.

Carol was born October 13, 1943, in Rush Center, Kansas, the daughter
 of Frank U. and Della Dean (Newbury) Kershner.&nbsp; She was a lifelong 
resident of Rush County, Kansas.&nbsp; She was a 1961 graduate of La Crosse 
High School, La Crosse, Kansas.

Before her retirement, Carol was the CFO at Rush County Memorial 
Hospital, La Crosse, Kansas. Prior to being the CFO, she was the 
administrator of the hospital for over 20 years.&nbsp;

Carol enjoyed reading; working crossword puzzles; collecting Coke 
memorabilia; playing the piano; watching tv; crafting small woodworking 
projects; and researching her family history.

Among some of the things Carol is remembered for, is her accounting 
skills and her ability to remember numbers; and what a “planner” she 
was.

On January 28, 1972, she married Charlie Depperschmidt in Oklahoma.&nbsp; They later divorced in 1979.

Survivors include:&nbsp; her daughter, Kelli Legleiter, (Craig), La 
Crosse, Kansas; her grandson, Ryan Legleiter, La Crosse, Kansas; one 
brother, Jim Kershner (Sherry), La Crosse, Kansas; and one sister, Edra 
Powell (Tim), Sanger, Texas.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and &nbsp;her former husband.

Per Carol’s wishes, the family has chosen cremation.

A memorial service will be Monday, September 19, 2022, at 10:30 A.M. 
at the United Methodist Church, La Crosse, Kansas, with Pastor Scott 
Tempero officiating.&nbsp; A private family inurnment will be in Locust Hill 
Cemetery, Rush Center, Kansas.

Donnie L. Atteberry, 72, passed away on Sept., 2022. 

Born on July 15, 1950 in Great Bend, KS he was the son of Murel &amp; Virginia (Pulliman) Atteberry. A lifetime Barton County resident he graduated from Great Bend High school and later entered the oilfield. Donnie was an oilfield worker for many years before working as a greeter at Wal Mart where he was loved by many. 

He leaves behind wife of 40 years, Donna (Weatherman) Atteberry, Ellinwood, KS and grandchildren, Marissa Reynolds (Jason Reynolds) and many beloved great-grandchildren He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Dick Atteberry; and sisters, Vicki Kramer and Sharon Wilson.

Cremation has occurred and private family inurnment will take place at a later date at Great Bend Cemetery North. Memorials are suggested to help with funeral expenses in care of Minnis Chapel&nbsp;Po Box 246, Ellinwood, KS 67526.

Donald H. Burton, 97, of Russell,&nbsp;Kansas, passed away Tuesday, July 26, 2022, at&nbsp;Main Street Manor of Russell.

Donald was born June 2, 1925, in Hays, Kansas. &nbsp;He&nbsp;was the son of Harold N. and Helen M. (Truan) Burton. &nbsp;They lived&nbsp;in Hays&nbsp;and moved to Russell when he started school. &nbsp;He graduated from Russell High School in 1943.

Donald served his country in the U.S. Army Air&nbsp;Corp from 1943 to 1945. He was a&nbsp;Bombardier&nbsp;Navigator and a Flying&nbsp;Warrant&nbsp;Officer.&nbsp;&nbsp;After&nbsp;his tour of&nbsp;duty, he returned to Kansas and attended Kansas University School of Pharmacy&nbsp;from which he graduated in 1952.

Donald was united in marriage to&nbsp;Jaclyn Louise Lewis on August 29, 1949, in Russell. &nbsp;This union was blessed with a son, Hal. &nbsp;They lived in Russell for a few years before moving to Beloit, Kansas in 1955. &nbsp;Then&nbsp;in 1959, they moved to Great Bend,&nbsp;Kansas. &nbsp;In 1967, they purchased a pharmacy in Russell&nbsp;and operated Burton Pharmacy until its closing in 1990.

Donald was a Pharmacist&nbsp;in Russell, Beloit&nbsp;and Great Bend.&nbsp;In his later career&nbsp;he served as a reliefpharmacist in a dozen&nbsp;Central and Western&nbsp;Kansas towns.&nbsp;He received an Award for over 60&nbsp;years in Pharmacy from the Kansas Board of Pharmacy.&nbsp;&nbsp;He&nbsp;enjoyed collecting&nbsp;jazz&nbsp;records, tending his flowergarden and working&nbsp;and carving&nbsp;of wood.

Donald’s surviving family include his son, Hal Burton of Russell, Kansas; sisters, Helen Lynn&nbsp;Coyle of Georgetown, Texas and Cynthia Burton&nbsp;Jones&nbsp;of Georgetown, Texas; two&nbsp;nieces&nbsp;and five nephews.

Joshua Alan Douglass, 44, died of sudden illness September 6, 2022, at St. Catherine Hospital in Garden City, Kansas. 
He was born August 8, 1978, at Denver General Hospital in Denver, 
Colorado. He was adopted in 1981, along with his Sister Cyndi Douglass,
 by Darlene Epperson Douglass and Lorenzo L. (Doug) Douglass from Adams’
 County Department of Social Services. 
Joshua graduated from Wichita County High School in May of 1999 and was 
slowly transitioned to services provided by SDSI and eventually Mosaic 
of Garden City, KS, where the family was assisted in seeing Joshua had 
everything he needed to establish a full productive life of his 
choosing. 
In addition to the death of his adoptive Mother Darlene when he was 
five, Joshua was preceded in death by his Grandparents Lloyd L. 
Douglass, Ray and Velda Epperson, and an Uncles, Ron Epperson and Tony 
Epperson. 
Survivors include his Father, Doug Douglass, Cleveland, Oklahoma, his 
Stepmother Charla Douglass, Garden City, and his Grandmother Veda 
Douglass, Firth, Nebraska, along with his Step-Grandparents Harley and 
Mary Ellen Foulks of Garden City. 
Joshua is also survived by his Sister Cyndi Douglass of Emporia, KS, his
 Half-Sister Amanda Douglass of Thornton, Colorado, and his Step-Sister 
Karie Roth and Step-Brother Matthew Koster, both of Holcomb, Kansas, and
 many Cousins, Aunts, Uncles, Nieces and Nephews. 
Of very special mention is his beloved Mosaic Host Home Provider, 
Kathleen Stahlecker, of Garden City, KS, who lovingly took time to get 
to know Joshua at Mosaic and helped Mosaic transition him in to her home
 where she provided full time care and love for him the last three and a
 half years of his life. 
Joshua led a full life and enjoyed the outdoors, swimming, flying, four 
wheeling, motorcycle riding, animals and his ongoing love of learning, 
which included adaptive American Sign Language for communication.

Betty Jane Huschka, former Great Bend resident, retired registered nurse, and homemaker, passed away September 9, 2022, at the age of 98, in Derby, Kan. She was born July 11, 1924, to Carl J. and Elizabeth Seitz Orth in Hays, Kan.

Betty attended parochial schools in Hays. A senior in high school, she enrolled in the American Red Cross Nursing Assistant program and received her certificate to aid in the war effort. She graduated from Girls’ Catholic High School in Hays in 1942 and was awarded the Bausch and Lomb Honorary Science Award for Excellent Students. After graduation, she was employed at St. Anthony’s Hospital in Hays as a nurse’s aid for one year before entering St. Rose Hospital School of Nursing in Great Bend, Kan. in 1943. In 1946, she graduated, receiving her nursing degree and her registered nurse license.

On February 21, 1946, Betty met the love of her life, Norman J. Huschka of Ellinwood, Kan., who had returned home from serving in World War II as an American Air Force Flight Engineer on a B-26 Bomber and former Prisoner of War in occupied Germany. Norman and Betty were engaged on February 21, 1947, and were married on May 27, 1947, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Hays, Kan. Norman preceded her in death on February 21, 1997, on the 51st anniversary of their meeting.

Betty nursed for many years at St. Rose Hospital in Great Bend and for Dr. Marlin W. Carlson of Ellinwood, Kan. Betty was a member of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Great Bend, Altar Society, and the Eucharistic prayer hour. She was a life member of the American Prisoners of War Organization. After 61 years in Great Bend, Betty moved to Derby, Kan., for health reasons in 2015.

Survivors include three sons, Kurt (Janna) of Hutchinson, Kan., Glen (Nicki) of Pflugerville, Tex., and Kris (Lisa) of San Antonio, Tex.; a daughter, Gail (Max) Ferguson of Derby, Kan.; six grandchildren, Clint Huschka, Daniel Ferguson, Bonnie Cole, Ali Rae Ferguson-Rangel, Amanda Davis, Kennedy Huschka; six great-grandchildren, Lily Ashlyn Huschka, Savannah Grace Huschka, Melita Noel Huschka, Zoey Quinn Cole, Mila Rae Rangel, Leo Eugene Ferguson; a sister, Carol (Kenneth) Diehl of Roseville, Cali.; and extended family, Mark and Michelle Rondeau, Brad and Sarah Shirer, Ron and Tammy Mason, and Ron and Becky Draney. She is preceded in eternity by her husband; parents; four brothers, two infants, Marvin (Amy), and Kenneth (Virginia) Orth; a sister, Martha (Ed) Schulte; and a nephew, Kenneth Diehl, Jr.

Visitation will take place from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 15, 2022, with Altar Society Rosary at 4:00 p.m., all at Bryant Funeral Home. Virginia “Ginny” Mae Sallee, 94, passed away Sept. 7, 2022, at Hospice House Hutchinson.

She was born April 14, 1928, in rural Pawnee County, the daughter of Eli and Celia Weber Skelton.

Ginny was raised in Larned where she graduated high school. Upon graduation, she worked for the telephone company as a switchboard operator. She spent a period of time working as a dental receptionist in Great Bend where she was a resident for more than 50 years. In her later years, she devoted her time to volunteering at the Barton County Museum. She greatly enjoyed baking and could expertly design a holiday table. The family relied heavily on Ginny when organizing family gatherings. She was an excellent hostess who always ensured that her guests had a good time. She spent her final years at Pleasant View Home in Inman where she was loved by many.

On July 7, 1949, she married Norman Dean Sallee, and together they had three children.

She was preceded in death by her parents; five brothers, Pete, Bob, Glenn, Russell, and Leo Skelton; four sisters, Erma Skelton, Verna Moorehead, Zesper Franz and Maxine Nelms; one nephew Dennis Franz; one son-in-law Neil Sternberg.

Survivors include sons, Kenton Sallee (Donna), Inman; and Jeff Sallee (Leah), Valencia, Calif.; one daughter, Deanne Sternberg, Fallbrook, Calif.; six grandchildren, Eric Ireland, Amy Sallee, Katy Price, Drew Sternberg, Tyler Sternberg, and Lindsay Hoffberg; numerous great-grandchildren.

There will be no services, and a graveside memorial will be held at a later date.

Allan Cecil Newkirk, 90, passed away Sept. 7, 2022, at the University of Kansas Health System - Great Bend Campus. He was born Jan. 26, 1932, in Elk City to Archibald &amp; Virginia (Conkright) Newkirk. He married Dolores Annette Wyman on July 31, 1955. She died on Oct. 29, 2014. He then married Connie (Dodd) Banion on June 18, 2015. She died July 19, 2021.

Formerly of Havana, Independence, Elk City and Kinsley, Allan was a recent Great Bend resident. He was a heavy equipment operator for the Kansas Department of Transportation for over 30 years, retiring in 1992. Allan was a lifelong active member of the Assembly of God Church, currently attending Encounter Church (formerly First Assembly of God), Great Bend. He was also a long-time member of the First Assembly of God Church, Independence. Allan loved to hunt, fish and camp, especially traveling to Estes Park, Colo. He was a veteran of the United States Navy having served during the Korean Conflict.

Survivors include, two sons, Delane Newkirk and his wife Teressa of Lyons and Bruce Newkirk and his wife Sharla of Orange Park, Fla.; a daughter, Stephannie Zorn and her husband Gary of Ellinwood; a sister, Maryanne Broyles of El Dorado; 13 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wives, Dolores Wyman Newkirk and Connie Banion Newkirk; a brother, James Newkirk; and a sister, Sarah Ross.

There will be no visitation as cremation has taken place. Memorial services will be Thursday, Sept. 15, 2022, at 1 p.m., at First Assembly of God, Independence, with Pastor Robert “Bo” Bryant and Pastor Dwight Dozier presiding. A private family inurnment will be held at Oak Hill Cemetery in Elk City. He was also a long-time member of the First Assembly of God Church, Independence. Allan loved to hunt, fish and camp, especially traveling to Estes Park, Colo. He was a veteran of the United States Navy having served during the Korean Conflict.Survivors include, two sons, Delane Newkirk and his wife Teressa of Lyons and Bruce Newkirk and his wife Sharla of Orange Park, Fla.; a daughter, Stephannie Zorn and her husband Gary of Ellinwood; a sister, Maryanne Broyles of El Dorado; 13 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wives, Dolores Wyman Newkirk and Connie Banion Newkirk; a brother, James Newkirk; and a sister, Sarah Ross.There will be no visitation as cremation has taken place. Memorial services will be Thursday, Sept. 15, 2022, at 1 p.m., at First Assembly of God, Independence, with Pastor Robert “Bo” Bryant and Pastor Dwight Dozier presiding. A private family inurnment will be held at Oak Hill Cemetery in Elk City. Michael Joseph Thayer, 64, died on Tuesday, September 6, 2022, at Spring Hill Care &amp; Rehabilitation Center in Spring Hill. He was born on October 19, 1957, at Atlantic, Iowa, the son of Jerry E. &amp; Peg (Degan) Thayer.

Michael graduated from Liberal High School with the Class of 1976. He moved to Lakin and worked at Lakin Automotive Supply until 2004 when he became a self employed IT and computer person. In 2015, he became a jailer for the Kearny County Sheriff Department. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, shooting and his gun collection.

He is survived by his 3 Sons- Jeff Thayer of Dodge City, Andy &amp; Brittney Thayer of Hays and Gilbert &amp; Heather Thayer of Spring Hill, Brother- Sean &amp; Ronell Thayer of Garden City, Sister- Nan &amp; Steve Kartsonis of Tuscson, Arizona, 5 Grandchildren-Jocelyn, Myles, Bowen, Easton &amp; Scottie. He was preceded in death by his Parents, Step-Father- Gilbert Phlieger and 2 Brothers- Jeffrey Thayer and David Thayer.

Lifelong Sharon Springs, KS resident, Lowell Duane Mather, 89, passed
 away on Tuesday, September 6, 2022, at the Colby Health and Rehab Center
 in Colby, KS.

Lowell was born on September 22, 1932, to Lowell George (Jimmy) and 
Beatrice Mae (Lewis) Mather on the farm in Wallace County.&nbsp; He was the 
oldest of three children.&nbsp; He attended school in Sharon Springs and 
graduated in 1950 from Wallace County High School.

After serving in the Army from 1953-1955, Lowell married Darla Dee 
Leitner in Goodland, KS on September 18, 1955.&nbsp; To this union, three 
children were born; Randall, Pamela and Michael.

Lowell loved farming and did so for most of his life.&nbsp; One of his 
biggest joys was taking care of all their cattle and animals that they 
had, with his family at this side.&nbsp; Lowell was very content being on the
 farm around his animals and dogs.&nbsp; He enjoyed helping his neighbors 
with whatever they needed, and enjoyed a nice cup of coffee or tea with 
them.&nbsp; He was very active in the Masonic Lodge and the Eastern Star.&nbsp; He
 was also very involved in the Baptist Church with serving as a deacon, 
Sunday school teacher, and helping with any other needs that the church 
may have had.&nbsp; He enjoyed target shooting and riding horses with his 
children and grandchildren.&nbsp; He and Darla also drove bus for the school 
and enjoyed being with the kids on the bus.

Preceding him in death were his parents, his sister Donna Klinge and his brother Gary Mather.

Surviving family includes his wife Darla, his children Randall D. 
(Christi) Mather of Overland Park, KS, Pamela D. (Thomas) McDaniel of 
Scott City, KS and Michael D. (Trina) Mather of Sharon Springs, KS.&nbsp; He 
is also survived by 4 grandchildren; Dustin Mather of Independence, MO, 
Brianne (Kelley) Austin of Woodstock, GA, Samuel (Jacey) McDaniel of 
Oakley, KS and Kasey Mather of Sharon Springs, KS, as well as 5 great

Herman F. Fischer, 93, passed away September 6, 2022, at Azria Health, Great Bend, Kansas. He was born November 20, 1928, in rural Stafford County to Herman F. and Flora M. (Bunselmeyer) Fischer. He married Norma J. LeRoy on October 17, 1948, at Peace Evangelical and Reformed United Church of Christ, Hudson, Kansas. She survives.

Herman was a current resident of Great Bend, coming from the Seward, Kansas, area. He was a long-time farmer and cattleman, raising registered Shorthorn cattle. He was a member of First Congregational United Church of Christ, Kansas Shorthorn Association, and Great Bend Masonic Lodge. He served on the Board of Directors of Midwest Energy for 38 years.

Survivors include his wife, Norma, of the home and three children, Rhonda Wineinger and husband Pat of Great Bend, Gregg Fischer of Great Bend and Debra Fischer of Houston, Texas and a sister, Donna Overholt Clausing and husband Larry of Tiffin, Ohio. Also surviving are three granddaughters: Ann Heine (Jeff) of Great Bend, Nikki Deeds (Zach) of Pratt, and Stacey Stump (Jeff) of St. John and seven great-grandchildren: Kiley, Trae, Branden, Rylee, August, Archer and Clara. He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant daughter, Cheryl Jean Fischer; a daughter-in-law, Leann Fischer; and brother-in-law, Robert Overholt.

Visitation will be held from 3:00 to 8:00 p.m., Sunday, September 11, 2022 at Bryant Funeral Home, with family to receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Funeral Service will be held at 10:00 a.m.., Monday, September 12, 2022, at First Congregational United Church of Christ in Great Bend, with Pastor Mike Munz presiding. Thomas Lloyd Beatty, 74, of Luray, Kansas,&nbsp;went to Heaven with the Lord,&nbsp;on Sunday, July 3, 2022, at the Hutchinson Regional Medical Center in Hutchinson,&nbsp;Kansas&nbsp;after a valiant battle with&nbsp;numerous&nbsp;health issues.

Thomas&nbsp;was born&nbsp;on May 25, 1948, in Salina, Kansas, the son of Lloyd&nbsp;R. and Bertha Maude(Reiss) Beatty. &nbsp;He grew up in the&nbsp;Amherst&nbsp;area and&nbsp;graduated from Luray High School in the class of 1966&nbsp;where he enjoyed&nbsp;playing&nbsp;football. &nbsp;After high school, Tom&nbsp;attended Fort Hays&nbsp;State&nbsp;University in Hays, Kansas&nbsp;where&nbsp;he&nbsp;played football. &nbsp;He met, fell in love and was united in marriage to Renita Rae Schilling on June 18, 1994,&nbsp;in Onaga, Kansas. &nbsp;From this&nbsp;union,&nbsp;Tom&nbsp;and Renita were blessed with 5 children Shawn, Dylan, Austin, Jamie and Dakota. &nbsp;He&nbsp;lived, worked his whole life,&nbsp;and raised his family,&nbsp;on the Beatty family farm. &nbsp;He also worked for the Kansas Department of Transportation for 39 years as a&nbsp;highway&nbsp;maintenance&nbsp;employee.&nbsp;

He was a longtime member of the Amherst United Methodist&nbsp;Church&nbsp;of&nbsp;Waldo, Kansas. &nbsp;He&nbsp;was also a member of the Lions Club of Luray, Kansas, Elks Lodge of Russell, Kansas, Luray Senior Center&nbsp;Broad Member &amp; President&nbsp;of Luray,&nbsp;Kansas,&nbsp;and a Hunter Safety Master Instructor. &nbsp;He enjoyed working and taking care of the family farm and&nbsp;being outdoors. &nbsp;He also enjoyed&nbsp;doing leather work, hunting and fishing.&nbsp;&nbsp;His love for the&nbsp;outdoors was only surpassed by&nbsp;the&nbsp;love he had for his family&nbsp;and friends,especially his kids and grandkids.

Surviving family include his&nbsp;wife Renita of the home;&nbsp;daughter Jamie Edwards and husband Emmanuel of Wellington, Kansas; sons Shawn Beatty and wife Misty of Sylvan&nbsp;Grove, Kansas, Dylan Beatty and wife Megan of Hutchinson, Kansas, Austin Beatty and wife Nicole of Lucas, Kansas and Dakota&nbsp;Beatty and&nbsp;spouse&nbsp;Nicole of Lucas, Kansas&nbsp;and 18 grandchildren.&nbsp;He is also survived by many Friends&nbsp;and Family members.&nbsp;&nbsp;He leaves a huge hole in the hearts of his family and friends who were always entertained by his stories and hilarious sense of humor.

1966, in Kennewick, WA, to Albert and Cora (Garner) Williams. Birdie 
received her high school diploma and went on to work at the Colby Free 
Press for 20 years. She had also worked at Fairview Estates in Colby. 
Birdie enjoyed fishing and going to garage sales. She especially loved 
Elvis. On July 20, 1986, Birdie married Otto “Butch” Schutte Jr. 
Birdie was preceded in death by her parents and husband Otto. 
She is survived by her children, Roy (Leann) Williams, of Menlo, KS, 
Billy (Ashley) Turner, Gem, KS, Rosemary Rhan, Colby, KS and Otto

Wayne E. Funk, 78, of Milberger, Kansas, died on Monday, Sept. 5, 2022, at Main Street Manor in Russell, Kansas.

Wayne was born on July 31, 1944, in Great Bend, Kansas, the son of Emanuel and Elsie (Wilhelm) Funk. He grew up on the family farm in the southwest corner of Russell County and graduated from Otis High School. After high school he joined the Kansas Army National Guard. He met, fell in love and was united in marriage to Janet J. Becker on August 07, 1966, at the United Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Milberger, Kansas. From this union Wayne and Janet were blessed with 3 sons Doug, Warren and Deric. Wayne worked as a farmer and cattleman and they made their home on the family farm in rural Russell County, Kansas. Wayne was a member of the United Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Milberger and served on the church counsel. He was a member of several Russell County boards including the Fair board, Water District #3 Board, Extension Board, Winterset Township Board and was a Republican Precinct Committeeman. He enjoyed drag racing, tractor pulling, bowling and singing. Most of all he enjoyed spending time with his family. He especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and attending their activities and events.

Surviving family include his wife Janet from the home; sons Doug Funk (Teema) of Russell, Kansas, Warren Funk (Erica) of Rexford, Kansas and Deric Funk (Mandy) of Galatia, Kansas; sisters Joetta Hendrickson of Port Angeles, Washington and Marilyn Charles of McPherson, Kansas; 4 grandkids Lakin, Kaitlyn, Camille and Callen Funk; 3 step grandkids Molly, Macy and Chloe and 3 step great grandkids Delilah, Amari and Lovelyn. He was preceded in death by his parents.

A celebration of Wayne’s life will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Friday, September 09, 2022, at the United Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Milberger, Kansas. Burial will follow at the United Emmanuel Lutheran Cemetery in Milberger. Visitation will be from 10 A.M. to 8 P.M. on Thursday, September 08, 2022, at the mortuary with family greeting guests from 6 P.M. to 7 P.M. Thursday evening. Elzina E. Scott, 90, of Russell, Kansas, passed away Tuesday, August 30, 2022, at Wheatland Nursing&nbsp;Home in Russell.

Elzina was born November 29, 1931, in Russell County. &nbsp;She was the daughter of John and Lydia (Lohmann) Maier. &nbsp;She&nbsp;grew up and&nbsp;attended&nbsp;Cromwell Country&nbsp;School&nbsp;south of Gorham, Kansas.&nbsp;She was baptized and confirmed at Bender Hill&nbsp;Lutheran Church in rural Russell.&nbsp;Elzina&nbsp;had a strong Lutheran faith and was a&nbsp;member&nbsp;of the Peace Lutheran Church in Natoma and later&nbsp;the St. John Lutheran Church in Russell.

Elzina later moved to Russell where she worked as a&nbsp;Nurses Aid&nbsp;at the Russell Regional Hospital&nbsp;for over 30 years and was honored as Employee of the&nbsp;Year in 1983.&nbsp;She loved and raised her three children&nbsp;in Russell&nbsp;early on,&nbsp;and&nbsp;then&nbsp;remarried and moved her family to a farm north of Paradise where she was a&nbsp;hard-working&nbsp;farm wife. She later left the farm and moved close to&nbsp;her&nbsp;daughter for awhile and then retired and moved to Russell where she could be&nbsp;around&nbsp;her&nbsp;many friends as she got older.

Elzina always loved polka dancing and hosted&nbsp;several&nbsp;of her own birthday dances. She was&nbsp;very&nbsp;active,&nbsp;and she enjoyed traveling,&nbsp;watching&nbsp;sports,&nbsp;knitting,&nbsp;walking and working outdoors.&nbsp;Elzina&nbsp;was always ready to help where she could. She did volunteer work for KOOD TV, the Red Cross, meals on wheels, the Trinity Thrift&nbsp;Store, and the VFW&nbsp;Women’s&nbsp;Auxiliary.

Elzina’s surviving family include&nbsp;her daughter, Deborah&nbsp;Maupin (Tom) of Paradise,&nbsp;Kansas; sons, Phillip Bealby (Junette) of&nbsp;Marion, Kansas and Bradley Bealby (Linda) of Woodland Park, Colorado; brother, Sidney Maier of&nbsp;Minneola, Kansas; seven grandchildren,&nbsp;21&nbsp;great grandchildren&nbsp;and 1&nbsp;great&nbsp;great&nbsp;grandchild.

Elzina was preceded in death by her parents, two husbands, two sisters and three brothers.

A&nbsp;memorial service to celebrate Elzina’s life will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Saturday, September 17, 2022, at the Pohlman-Varner-Peele Mortuary in Russell,&nbsp;Kansas. &nbsp;

Visitation&nbsp;for&nbsp;Elzina will be Friday,&nbsp;September&nbsp;16,&nbsp;2022,&nbsp;from&nbsp;9&nbsp;AM to&nbsp;7&nbsp;PM,&nbsp;at&nbsp;the mortuary, with the family present to greet friends from&nbsp;5&nbsp;PM to&nbsp;7&nbsp;PM, Friday evening.&nbsp;&nbsp;A private burial of&nbsp;her&nbsp;ashes will take place at a later time. &nbsp;

Memorials have been&nbsp;established with the V.F.W. Ladies Auxiliary or the Trinity Thrift Store. &nbsp;

James Francis “Jim”&nbsp;Robben, age 63, of Victoria, Kansas, died Sunday, September 4, 2022 at Wesley Medical Center, Wichita, Kansas.

He was born on August 11, 1959, in&nbsp;Hays,&nbsp;Kansas, to Norbert F. and Theresa (Rajewski) Robben. &nbsp;He married Crystal M. (Berens) on February 11, 1983 in&nbsp;Victoria,&nbsp;Kansas.

He was co-owner of T &amp; J Construction&nbsp;for a few years, owned AAA Mobile Glass for ten years,&nbsp;he owned and operated&nbsp;Robben Oil Service Station for over 35 years.

He was&nbsp;a&nbsp;member&nbsp;of St. Ann’s Catholic Church, Walker, Kansas,&nbsp;Victoria Knights of Columbus Council # 1861,&nbsp;a 1977 graduate of Victoria High School, and a graduate of North Central Kansas Technical College, Hays, Kansas. &nbsp;He&nbsp;enjoyed the outdoors fishing, hunting, camping,&nbsp;and&nbsp;traveling. He was&nbsp;a sports fan of KU basketball, the Kansas City Chiefs, and his grandkids&nbsp;were # 1.

Sylvester W. “Bud” Habiger, 90, passed away September 4, 2022, at Brookdale Senior Living in Great Bend. He was born December 10, 1931, at Beaver, to Francis “Frank” &amp; Sophia (Meyeres) Habiger. He married Sandra Lue Brougher October 5, 1957 at Great Bend, Kansas. She died September 30, 1998.

A longtime Great Bend resident, Bud moved from the family farm out in Western Kansas. He was the shop manager for various fishing tool companies in the oilfield, retiring as the Kansas Area Manager for N.L. Acme Tool. He was a member of Prince of Peace Parish at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus Post #862 and VFW Post #3111. He was a veteran of the United States Army having served during the Korean Conflict.

Survivors include, three sons, Kerry Habiger and wife Julie of Stilwell, Kan., Kenyon Habiger and wife Kelley and Karl Habiger and wife Theresa all of Great Bend; a brother, Walter Habiger of Kalvesta; a sister, Alice Cohoon of Jetmore; four grandchildren, Marcus Habiger (Rebekah), Andrew Habiger (Giovana), Colby Habiger (Katie) and Caitlyn Lott (Michael); a step granddaughter, Conor Bird; and four great grandchildren, Evey and Zelie Habiger and Rowan and Weylyn Lott. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Sandra Habiger; a son, Kevin Habiger; a brother, Edwin Habiger; and two sisters, Pauline Radke and Leona Dome.

Sylvester 'Bud' Habiger, age 90

Patricia Jean Ludes, 82, passed away surrounded by loved ones on September 4, 2022, at River Bend Assisted Living, Great Bend, Kansas. She was born on December 11, 1939, at Hays, Kan., to Earl and Estella “Cobbie” (Cobb) Rogg. Patricia married Richard “Ed” Ludes June 6, 1959, at Russell, Kan. He passed away on July 9, 2016.

Coming to Great Bend in 1961, Patricia was a homemaker and also worked at Treasure Chest Bookstore for several years. She was a passionate reader, loved animals and enjoyed fishing whenever she could. She was a member of the Prince of Peace Parish at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church.

Survivors include two daughters, Aimee Jostrand of Dallas, Tex. and Jennifer (LeAnne) Ludes of Omaha, Neb.; five great grandchildren, Jaden Jostrand, Max Jostrand, Piper Jostrand, Amanda Ludes, and Evan (Sarah) Ludes; one great-grandchild, Hazel Ludes; and two sisters, Barbara Maloy of Colo. and Debra Rogg of Minn. She was preceded in death by her husband and parents.

There will be no visitation as cremation has taken place. Services are pending with Bryant Funeral Home. Memorials can be made to the Golden Belt Humane Society, in care of Bryant Funeral Home.

 </figure>Patricia Jean Ludes, 82, passed away surrounded by loved ones on September 4, 2022, at River Bend Assisted Living, Great Bend, Kansas. She was born on December 11, 1939, at Hays, Kan., to Earl and Estella “Cobbie” (Cobb) Rogg. Patricia married Richard “Ed” Ludes June 6, 1959, at Russell, Kan. He passed away on July 9, 2016.Coming to Great Bend in 1961, Patricia was a homemaker and also worked at Treasure Chest Bookstore for several years. She was a passionate reader, loved animals and enjoyed fishing whenever she could. She was a member of the Prince of Peace Parish at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church.Survivors include two daughters, Aimee Jostrand of Dallas, Tex. and Jennifer (LeAnne) Ludes of Omaha, Neb.; five great grandchildren, Jaden Jostrand, Max Jostrand, Piper Jostrand, Amanda Ludes, and Evan (Sarah) Ludes; one great-grandchild, Hazel Ludes; and two sisters, Barbara Maloy of Colo. and Debra Rogg of Minn. She was preceded in death by her husband and parents.There will be no visitation as cremation has taken place. Services are pending with Bryant Funeral Home. Memorials can be made to the Golden Belt Humane Society, in care of Bryant Funeral Home.

Patricia Ludes, age 82

Leon Brungardt, age 67, died peacefully, surrounded by family on May 20, 2022, in the home of his son in Wichita, KS, after a short but courageous battle with cancer.

Leon was born on December 1, 1954, in Hays, KS, to Paul and Mildred Brungardt, and raised in Victoria, KS. He graduated from Victoria High School (Class of 1972) and Ft. Hays State University. Leon retired from a career in construction and woodworking.

Leon enjoyed life to its fullest. He loved his family and friends and was happiest when being of service to others. He enjoyed fishing, gardening, reading, playing scrabble, and was often found just relaxing.

Survivors include two sons, Aaron (Mikala), and Jared (Nettie), both of Wichita, KS; four sisters Carol (Chris) Cowger, Topeka, KS; Lois Yunker, Munjor, KS; Wanda (Ron Staab) Brungardt, Victoria, KS; and Paula (Patrick) Zwenger, Victoria, KS; and five grandchildren, Landon, Brielle, Ruhiyyih, Samira, and Leon Brungardt.

Leon was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Mildred, two brothers, Steve and Mark, and one brother-in-law, Tom Yunker.

A memorial service is scheduled for Saturday, September 24, at 11 am, at St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Walker KS.

Edwin Cruz Lopez, 63, of Larned, KS, passed away on September&nbsp;1st, 2022, after losing his fight with cancer.

Edwin was predeceased by His father Dolores Cruz, and Mother Maria Lopez. 

He is survived by his son Emanuel&nbsp;Manwaring.
