Mickey Yvonne Jones, 79, died September 13, 2022, at Legend of Hutchinson. She was born December 3, 1942, in Kingman, to Eugene E. and Elizabeth “Dixie” (Dixon) Fisher.
Mickey graduated from Fairfield South High School, Turon. She received her Bachelor of Music Education Degree from Fort Hays State University, where she was certified to teach both instrumental and vocal music. After graduation, Mickey found her true passion as an elementary school vocal music teacher. She instilled her infectious love of music to her students and two children. Mickey also taught in her home both private voice and piano lessons, and prepared hundreds of students for music contests. Prior to moving to Hutchinson, Mickey was active in the Bucklin United Methodist Church, where she served as choir director, and was a member of the Dodge City Sweet Adelines. In addition, Mickey was the director for the 21st Century Learning Academy in Mullinville, helping countless students receive their high school diploma. Mickey enjoyed collecting Hummels, and was member of Delta Kappa Gamma, Trinity United Methodist Church, Hutchinson and DOERS Sunday school class.
On December 22, 1963, she married John Paul Jones, at College Hill United Methodist Church, Wichita.
Mickey is survived by: her husband of almost 59 years, John Paul of Hutchinson; children, Jason Jones (Tracy) of Hesston, Jacque Wilburn (Darren) of Overland Park; sister, Donna Fisher of Wichita; grandchildren, Alexander Eckhoff (Kayla), Nicholas Eckhoff, Jace Jones, Chrision Wilburn, Alayna Wilburn, Kyra Wilburn, Dalyn Wilburn, and Quinton Wilburn; great-grandson, Elliott Eckhoff; great-granddaughter, Adelaide Eckhoff; niece, Suzi Casement (Bert Boden); seven foreign exchange students; and her beloved dog, Joey.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a daughter, Julie Michele Jones.
Funeral service will be 11:00 a.m. Monday, September 19, 2022, at Trinity United Methodist Church, 1602 N. Main, Hutchinson, with the Reverend Dr. Kim Biery officiating. Graveside service will follow at 1:30 p.m. at Cleveland Cemetery, Cleveland, KS. Friends may call from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Saturday and 1:00 to 8:00 p.m. Sunday, with the family present from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Sunday at Elliott Mortuary.
