Thomas Lloyd Beatty

Thomas Lloyd Beatty, 74, of Luray, Kansas, went to Heaven with the Lord, on Sunday, July 3, 2022, at the Hutchinson Regional Medical Center in Hutchinson, Kansas after a valiant battle with numerous health issues.

Thomas was born on May 25, 1948, in Salina, Kansas, the son of Lloyd R. and Bertha Maude(Reiss) Beatty.  He grew up in the Amherst area and graduated from Luray High School in the class of 1966 where he enjoyed playing football.  After high school, Tom attended Fort Hays State University in Hays, Kansas where he played football.  He met, fell in love and was united in marriage to Renita Rae Schilling on June 18, 1994, in Onaga, Kansas.  From this union, Tom and Renita were blessed with 5 children Shawn, Dylan, Austin, Jamie and Dakota.  He lived, worked his whole life, and raised his family, on the Beatty family farm.  He also worked for the Kansas Department of Transportation for 39 years as a highway maintenance employee. 

He was a longtime member of the Amherst United Methodist Church of Waldo, Kansas.  He was also a member of the Lions Club of Luray, Kansas, Elks Lodge of Russell, Kansas, Luray Senior Center Broad Member & President of Luray, Kansas, and a Hunter Safety Master Instructor.  He enjoyed working and taking care of the family farm and being outdoors.  He also enjoyed doing leather work, hunting and fishing.  His love for the outdoors was only surpassed by the love he had for his family and friends,especially his kids and grandkids.

Surviving family include his wife Renita of the home; daughter Jamie Edwards and husband Emmanuel of Wellington, Kansas; sons Shawn Beatty and wife Misty of Sylvan Grove, Kansas, Dylan Beatty and wife Megan of Hutchinson, Kansas, Austin Beatty and wife Nicole of Lucas, Kansas and Dakota Beatty and spouse Nicole of Lucas, Kansas and 18 grandchildren. He is also survived by many Friends and Family members.  He leaves a huge hole in the hearts of his family and friends who were always entertained by his stories and hilarious sense of humor.

He was preceded in death by his parents and infant brother John Beatty.

A memorial service to celebrate Thomas’ life will be held at 11 A.M. on Saturday, September 17, 2022, at the Amherst United Methodist Church of Waldo, Kansas.  Family will greet guests the day of the service.  

Memorials may be given to the Amherst United Methodist Church or Luray Senior Center and sent in care of the mortuary.  Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary of Russell, Kansas, is in charge of the funeral service arrangements.
