Glen Leo Stricker, 92, passed away on August 17, 2022, in rural Barton County. He was born on January 20, 1930, to Gottfried &amp; Amalia “Mollie” (Niedenthal) Stricker. He married Norma Karst on September 28, 1952, at Bender Hill Lutheran Church in Russell County, Kan.

A longtime Great Bend resident, Glen was a contractor for G&amp;L Construction and Hubert Bender Home Builders. He was a member of St. Mark Lutheran Church and VFW Post #3111 in Great Bend. He enjoyed gardening, genealogy, fishing, farming and spending time with his family. Glen was a veteran of the United States Air Force serving during the Korean war, also being stationed in Saudi Arabia.

Survivors include, his wife, Norma Stricker of the home; a son, Anthony "Tony" Stricker of Great Bend; two daughters, Cynthia Axman of Broken Arrow, Okla. and Michelle Lanham and husband Chuck of Fort Worth, Tex.; four brothers, Elmer Stricker of Tex., Roy "Bob" Stricker and Dean Stricker all of Great Bend and Thomas “Tom” Stricker of Hill City; four sisters, Elsena Bender of Great Bend and Lenetta Springer of Ill., Mary Jane Doonan of Ariz. and Kathryn Booth of Okla.; three granddaughters, Alisha Hunley and husband Clifton, Baylee Lanham and Keely Lanham; two great grandchildren, Jarrett Hunley and KayLynne Hunley; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Harvey Stricker, Gottfried “Fritz” Stricker Jr., and an infant brother, Henry Hubert Stricker; sisters, Rozella Van Reenan and Helena “Helen” Michaelis; and a grandson, Jared Axman.

Visitation will be held from Noon to 8:00 p.m., Monday, August 22, 2022, at Bryant Funeral Home, with family to receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, August 23, 2022, at St. Mark Lutheran Church in Great Bend with Pastor Adam Wutka presiding. Interment will be in Golden Belt Memorial Park in Great Bend with Military Rites conducted by the McConnell Air Force Base Honor Guard. Larned – Willard Latas, 88, passed away July 12, 2022 at Chandler, Arizona.

He was born February 14, 1934 at Rozel, Kansas, the son of Albert and Esther (Carlson) Latas.

He belonged to the First Baptist Church of Rozel and he graduated from Rozel High School in 1952. Willard joined the United States Armed Services in October 1959. He retired from the United States Army Medical Corp in January, 1980 with the Rank of 1st Sergeant (E8). He served two tours of duty in Germany and one tour in Vietnam with the 85th Evacuation Hospital Unit near the Demilitarized Zone (DMZ). He was stationed in many outside posts. Willard received the following Awards or Decorations: National Defense Service Medal; Vietnam Campaign Medal; Vietnam Republic Gallantry Cross; Bronze Star; Army Commendation Medal; Armed

Forces Expeditionary Medal; Meritorious Service Medal; Vietnam Service Medal with 1 Silver Star; Army Occupation Medal, and earned several Good Conduct Awards. He was a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) and also a member of the American Legion. He served as Post Commander for VFW Post #7271 for three years in Larned, was VFW 7th District Commander in 1991-1992, then served as Post Commander for VFW Post #3111 in Great Bend for 4 years. After retiring from the Armed Forces in 1980, Willard was employed at the Larned State Hospital until he retired in 1996. He served as

President for 4 years at the Larned Senior Center.

On July 29, 1962 he married Lucinda Young; she died May 7, 1990. He later married Patricia (Gales) Shaver June 21, 1991; she survives.

Other survivors include: numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Albert Dale, Arlie Gene, Raymond, and Ronald; and two sisters, Lorene Smith and Wanda Tedford.

Cremation has taken place and a memorial graveside service will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday, August 20, 2022 at Larned Cemetery with Bob Sallee presiding, and military graveside rites presented by Kansas National Guard Army Honor Guard and 8th District American Legion Honor Guard.

Jadene Eva Stickler Colglazier left her earthly life August 15, 2022. She was 96 years old and was of the Methodist faith. She was born 7/7/1926 to Frank Russell and Ines Mae Quinn Stickler in Alva, OK.

Jadene met Harlan Dean Colglazier at the University of Kansas in 1945 and married him on 5/18/1947 in Burlington, KS. Harlan preceded her in death 7/31/2004.

Their marriage produced 6 children, Eric Rulon, Beth Ann, Jean, Jennifer Louise, Erin Suzanne, and Andrew Martin. She is survived by daughter-in-law Ruth(Jack) Stewart, Larned KS; Beth(Jon) Kolb, Lawrence, KS; Jean(Timothy) Knapp, Brookline, MO; Jennifer(John) Yocum, Lawrence, KS; Erin(Jon) Robertson, Portland, OR; Andrew(Liz) Colglazier, Zephyr, TX. Also 14 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren (with 2 on the way), and one great-great grandchild.

Jadene was preceded in death by her parents, husband Harlan, son Eric, and sister Celia Ann Stickler Smith.

Merrily Kathleen McCamey, 80, passed away August 15, 2022, at Hospice House of Reno County in Hutchinson. She was born July 25, 1942, at Great Bend, to Thomas &amp; Nora (Manke) Karst. She married John Madison, had a daughter, Sheryl, and they were later divorced. She then married August Collins and they also later divorced. She then later married Jerry Prade “J.P.” McCamey in Indianapolis in January 2004. Merrily and J.P. spent the last twenty years traveling all over and it was a great passion for her.

A lifetime Great Bend resident, Merrily graduated from Otis Bison High School in 1960 and attended Bethany College in Lindsborg and Brown-Mackie College in Salina. She was a secretary for Lee Turner, Farm Bureau and Larned State Hospital. Merrily was a member of Encounter Church (formerly First Assembly of God Church) and volunteered for the prison ministry. Merrily was a talented musician being accomplished in the flute, piano, harp and voice. She enjoyed collecting recipes and had many pets throughout the last 50 years along with her daughter Rita that she loved and cherished, especially her dog, Sebastian and two cats, Toby and Angel.

Survivors include, her husband, J.P. McCamey; daughters, Sheryl McDowell of Nashville, Tenn. and her children, Zachary &amp; Madison McDowell, Rita Collins and Kathy Norlin both of Great Bend; twin boys, James Collins of Hutchinson and John Collins of Colo., special daughters, Sharon George and Tyra Collins; and J.P.’s children, Pastor Alan McCamey of Columbus, Kan., Pastor Jerry McCamey and Debbie Edgeworth all of Ind.; a sister, Winona Hooten of Batesville, Ark. and her children, Brandon Thomas (Chelsi) and Tina Gibbs (Jacob); and many grandchildren &amp; great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Lydia Rippie and a grandson, Jacob.

Janice Marie Smith, 79, passed away on August 15, 2022, at Hays Medical Center, Hays, Kansas. She was born on October 1, 1942, at Great Bend, Kan., to Vernie &amp; Aldeen (Morgret) Cates. On March 6, 1965, Janice married Gary Smith in Great Bend. He passed away on May 11, 2021.

A life-time Great Bend resident, Janice graduated from Great Bend High School in 1960. Prior to retirement, she worked as a bookkeeper at Gibson’s Discount Center, Anthony’s Clothing, and Golden Belt Home Health and Hospice. She was a member of Encounter Church and loved crafting.

Survivors include two sons, Michael (Jo) Smith of Great Bend, and Christopher (Stephanie) Smith of St. John; two sisters, Judy Bullard of Great Bend and Sharon Cates of Topeka; ten grandchildren, Presley, Delaney, Addison, Hallie, Dakota, Alyson, Hunter, Ava, Elizabeth, Andrea; four great-grandchildren, Rylie, Zayne, Laney and Molly; and a daughter-in-law, Dee Ann Smith of Hoisington. She is preceded in death by her husband; a son, Gary “Bubba” Smith; step-son, Ricky Smith; brother, Dale Cates; and nephew, Daniel Cates.

Janice Smith, age 79

Bryan Anthony Kramer, 42, passed away August 13, 2022, in rural Great Bend, Kan. He was born May 9, 1980, in Garden City, Kan., to Norman Pete and Jean A. (Scheer) Kramer. Bryan married Radonda Huston May 10, 2003, in Scott City, Kan. She survives.

Bryan, a longtime resident of Great Bend coming from Garden City, co-owned and operated Damm Pipe Testing and Charlie's Place. He was a member of Prince of Peace Parish and the Great Bend Chamber of Commerce. When Bryan wasn't working, he enjoyed driving his RZR and spending time with friends and family, especially his nieces, nephews and kids, Jayden and Janica.

Survivors include his wife Radonda of the home, his father, Pete Kramer of Great Bend and mother, Jean A. Kramer of Garden City; a son, Jayden Kramer and daughter, Janica Kramer both of the home; two sisters, Anna Kramer and Stacey Kramer (Milton Barnes) both of Garden City; and brother, Nathan Kramer (Barbara Campos) of Garden City. Bryan was preceded in death by a brother, Adam Kramer.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, August 18, 2022, at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, Great Bend, with Father Aneesh Parappanattu presiding. Bryan Kramer, age 42

Evelyn Lucille Hoffman, 92, died Aug. 13, 2022, at Clara Barton Hospital, Hoisington. She was born June 11, 1930, at St. Rose Hospital, Great Bend,&nbsp; the daughter of Ferdinand and Angela (Werner) Johanning. On Sept. 10, 1953, she married Victor Hoffman at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Ellinwood. He survives.

A lifetime resident of the Ellinwood and Hoisington area, Evelyn graduated from Ellinwood High School in 1948. She then attended Sacred Heart College, where she was a music major, but later graduated as a R.N. from St. Rose School of Nursing in Great Bend in 1953. She worked as a R.N. at the Emporia Hospital for a short time. After she and her husband moved to Hoisington, she utilized these skills in her life long work of being a farm wife and mother.

Evelyn was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She was a homemaker, a partner in Hoffman Ranches, and E&amp;V Oil Company. She was a member of St. John the Evangelist Church and Altar Society, where she exhibited her strong faith both in worship and in church activities, like leading RCIA classes. She was a volunteer for more than 50 years for the American Red Cross Bloodmobile, and served on the Barton County Planning Board from 1985-1988. Her great grandfather, Ferdinand Koett, acquired the land in 1892, and it has been owned by family members since. She was a talented painter, a beautiful piano player, and enjoyed playing bridge with the Tri-N Bridge Club. With her main focus being faith, family and friends.

She is survived by her husband of nearly 69 years; four children, Alan (Kathy) Hoffman of Hoisington, Joan Hoffman of Lawrence, Wayne (Melanie) Hoffman of Red Cloud, Neb., and Leon Hoffman of Peyton, Colo.; a son-in-law, Todd Musser; 10 grandchildren, Eric (Mandy) Hoffman, Kevin (Veronica) Hoffman, Nathan (Kimberly) Hoffman, Ryan (Jenna) Hoffman, Bejamin Myers, Paul Myers, Landon (Breanna) Hoffman, Aliese Hoffman, Sarah Musser, and Marisa Musser; 14 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Arlene Kutina of Great Bend. She is preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Ann E. Musser; and a sister, Thelma Dreiling.

Vistitation will be from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 16, 2022, with family to greet friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., and a Vigil and Rosary to begin at 7 p.m., all at Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m., Wednesday, Aug. 17, 2022, at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, celebrated by Father Anselm Eke and Deacon Keith Hoffman. Burial will follow in St. John Catholic Cemetery, Hoisington.

She was born June 11, 1930, at St. Rose Hospital, Great Bend,&nbsp; the daughter of Ferdinand and Angela (Werner) Johanning. On Sept. 10, 1953, she married Victor Hoffman at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Ellinwood. He survives.A lifetime resident of the Ellinwood and Hoisington area, Evelyn graduated from Ellinwood High School in 1948. She then attended Sacred Heart College, where she was a music major, but later graduated as a R.N. from St. Rose School of Nursing in Great Bend in 1953. She worked as a R.N. at the Emporia Hospital for a short time. After she and her husband moved to Hoisington, she utilized these skills in her life long work of being a farm wife and mother.Evelyn was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She was a homemaker, a partner in Hoffman Ranches, and E&amp;V Oil Company. She was a member of St. John the Evangelist Church and Altar Society, where she exhibited her strong faith both in worship and in church activities, like leading RCIA classes. She was a volunteer for more than 50 years for the American Red Cross Bloodmobile, and served on the Barton County Planning Board from 1985-1988. Debra Rose Langer, 70, passed away on Aug. 11, 2022, at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita. She was born on Jan. 31, 1952, in Great Bend, to Albion and Marcelline (Schwartz) Suchy. She married Robert “Bob” Langer July 1, 2002, in Great Bend.

A lifetime Great Bend resident, Debra was a retired custodian for Barton Community College and USD 428. She was a member of Prince of Peace Parish at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church and the Altar Society. She liked playing bingo and tending to plants and flowers. Debra enjoyed spending time with her family but especially loved being with her grandchildren.

Debra Langer, age 70

Harold Dallas “Bud” Wolfe, 86, passed away August 11, 2022, at the University of Kansas Health System - Great Bend Campus. He was born on November 20, 1935, at Lorraine, to Harold &amp; Thelma (Reed) Wolfe. He met the love of his life Lois Marie Bowman in the spring of 1965 on a blind date. On July 4th, 1965, Bud asked Lois to marry him and on November 20, 1965, they were married in Galesburg, Kan.

A longtime Great Bend resident, Bud worked in the oilfield for many years and loved to talk about it. He also worked in the gym at Barton Community College and for the City of Great Bend until his retirement in 1991. He was a member of First Church of the Nazarene and loved his church family. Bud especially loved to spend time with his family.

Survivors include, his wife, Lois Wolfe of the home; two children, Tina Curran (Tom) and Tim Wolfe all of Great Bend; four grandchildren, Rosie Berger (Dagan), Kyrie Bair (Mal), Logan Wolfe and Lakin Pafford; three great grandchildren; and a very special cousin, Patti Wolfe Bailey (Vernon). He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Richard Wolfe; and a sister, Shirley Ewald.

Harold 'Bud' Wolfe, age 86

Yancy Allen Feck, 56, passed away Aug. 9, 2022, at his home in Great Bend. He was born on Feb. 21, 1966, at Amarillo, Texas to Bobby and Shirley (Surface) Feck. He married Michelle Blankenship on Jan. 29, 1999, in Great Bend.

A longtime resident of Great Bend, Yancy sold chemicals throughout the Midwestern United States to oilfield companies. He enjoyed riding his Harley Davidson and going to the lake. He also could be found working on his rental properties and flipping houses. Yancy’s main joy in life was spending time with his children, grandchildren and spouse, but he also developed an inseparable bond with Yodi, his Schnoodle, over the last several years.

Survivors include, his wife, Michelle Feck of the home; a son, Wyatt Feck and two daughters, Shania Feck and Mallory Damon and husband Brenden all of Great Bend; his mother, Shirley Feck of Ellinwood; three brothers, David Feck and his wife Diane of Conway, S.C., Monte Feck and his wife Lori of Winfield and Shannon Feck and his wife Samantha of Eureka; a sister, Cynthia Patterson and her husband Keith of Great Bend; two grandchildren, Myah and Brantley Damon; numerous nieces and nephews, Tyler, Austin, Shaylee, Michael, Tegan, Tyrece, Cierra, Garrett, Alicia, Skylar, Blake, Kloey, Nichole, Zachary, Odessa and Tanner; and two great nephews, Aiden and Kaison. Yancy Feck, age 56

Dr. Terry D. Smith, 81, passed away August 9, 2022 at Diversicare of Larned, Larned, Kansas.

He was born June 2, 1941 in Argonia, KS, the son of T. Dale Smith and Faye Weist Smith. He graduated from Larned High School in 1959. He attended Pratt Community College from 1959-1961. He became the National Junior College Singles’ tennis champion in 1961 for which he was inducted into the Pratt Community College Hall of Fame in 2021. He then attended the University of Kansas for 1 year before entering dental school at the University of Missouri at Kansas City from which he graduated in 1966.

Terry served 2 years in the United States Navy. He was honorably discharged as a Lieutenant Commander in 1968. He then returned to Larned with his wife and family where he established his dental practice. He retired in 2018.

On June 24, 1962 he married Charlene Rae Stewart in Larned, KS. She passed away November 20, 2001. On July 19, 2003 he married Jill Rochelle Christensen in Larned, KS. She survives.

Survivors include: one daughter, Doris (Jack) Tebow, Quinter, KS; 3 sons, Troy (Cindi) Smith, Larned, KS, Dr. Trent (Julie) Smith, Larned, KS, Tad (Tara) Smith, Shawnee, KS; 12 grandchildren; and one great-grandson. Other survivors: two brothers, Theo (Linda) Smith, Logandale, NV, Clay (Judy) Smith, Larned, KS; one sister, Bonita Meyers, Wichita, KS.

Terry was a member of the First Southern Baptist Church, Larned, KS. He was a longtime member and past president of the Noon Lion’s Club. He achieved the rank of Eagle Scout as a Boy Scout and later served as a troop leader. He enjoyed an active lifestyle including tennis, bowling, shooting sports, racquetball, golf, running, and bicycling. His other hobbies included hunting, fishing, and woodworking. He was an avid life-long bird watcher. He loved the Lord, his family, and the KU Jayhawks. He was truly BLESSED.

A Celebration of Life service will be held at Beckwith Mortuary, Larned on Saturday, August 13, 2022 at 10:00 a.m. with Pastor Ryan Webster presiding. Service will be viewable via Facebook Live at www.facebook.com/beckwithmortuary. Burial will follow at the Larned Cemetery with Military Graveside Honors. Gary Lee Durland, 82, passed away on August 6, 2022, at Kentwood Plaza, in St. John, Kan. Gary was born in Lindsborg, Kan. on March 1, 1940, to Olin and Mabelle (Peterson) Durland, who also gave him a brother, Bobby Jack. The family later moved to Lyons, Kan., where Gary graduated from Lyons High School and then continued his education in Kansas City, where he graduated from auto-mechanic school.

Following graduation, Gary moved to Dodge City, Kan., where he met the love of his life, Mary Louise Kohn. They married on November 17, 1962, and shared 7 children and 54 wonderful years of marriage prior to her passing on January 14, 2018. After moving to Great Bend in 1964, Gary worked at Big A/Car Quest Auto Parts Store and Sanko Motors, and later drove bus for the Center and the Senior Center. Along with work, he spent many hours enjoying his woodworking hobby. He was extremely talented and, at one time, had 81 wood carvings in the house - excluding the ones he enjoyed giving away. Gary was a man of deep faith and love for the Lord and showed this as a member of Prince of Peace Parish, through worship, being a religious education teacher, and a communion minister.

Survivors include two sons, Ron (Diane) Durland of Great Bend and David (Angela) Durland of Spring Hill; four daughters, Barbara (Delbert) Downey of Wright, Jeanette (Brian) Standlee of Belvue, Linda Durland and Carla Durland, both of Wichita; ten grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; brother-in-law, Galen (Doris) Kohn; sister-in-law Sandy Kohn (Jerry Hale); cousins, Betty Ludwig and Eldon Peterson; and several nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his wife; a son, Gregory; his parents; and his brother.

Along with work, he spent many hours enjoying his woodworking hobby. He was extremely talented and, at one time, had 81 wood carvings in the house - excluding the ones he enjoyed giving away. Gary was a man of deep faith and love for the Lord and showed this as a member of Prince of Peace Parish, through worship, being a religious education teacher, and a communion minister.Survivors include two sons, Ron (Diane) Durland of Great Bend and David (Angela) Durland of Spring Hill; four daughters, Barbara (Delbert) Downey of Wright, Jeanette (Brian) Standlee of Belvue, Linda Durland and Carla Durland, both of Wichita; ten grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; brother-in-law, Galen (Doris) Kohn; sister-in-law Sandy Kohn (Jerry Hale); cousins, Betty Ludwig and Eldon Peterson; and several nieces and nephews. Joyce Deanne (Phillips) Essmiller, 96, passed away August 7, 2022, at HaysMed, Hays, Kansas, after a short illness. She was born February 11, 1926, in Hoisington, Kansas to Mark Paul and Ida Marie (Willcutt) Phillips. She spent her early years in Hoisington before moving to Great Bend. She graduated from Great Bend High School and married her high school sweetheart, Arnold Essmiller, Jr. on January 19, 1944. They celebrated almost 74 years of marriage before his passing on November 21, 2017.

Joyce was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother; her family was her pride and joy, and always came first. She was a wonderful cook who loved hosting large holiday meals and family gatherings, traveling anywhere anytime, family genealogy, reading and her bridge groups. She was friendly and outgoing, loved meeting new people, and could talk to anyone about almost anything.

She was a homemaker who, when her children neared college age, worked as a bookkeeper at Mullin Furniture, was secretary of the Barton County Farm Bureau Board for 10 years, worked at Steadman &amp; Hawk Accountants, then at Midwest Energy until her retirement. Joyce was a charter member of Shamrock Extension Unit, a 4-H Food Leader, a member of Business &amp; Professional Women, First Presbyterian Church and former Ladies’ Circle Chairperson, and had served on the Board of the Great Bend Girls’ Home. She and Arnold were also members of a couple’s pitch club which met for almost 60 years.

She is survived by her daughters, Jan Marie Bolick of Carmel, IN, ArNell Deanne Briel (Jon) of Great Bend, and Jadean Louise Takao (Eric) of Kailua, HI; four grandchildren, Brent Arnold Bolick (Amy) of Jacksonville, FL, Wendy Deanne Sundahl (Shane) of Larned, KS, Robin Ann Murphy (Matt) of Fishers, IN, and Hayley Lynne Dicks (Shane) of Great Bend; and eight great grandchildren, Sophie and Olivia Bolick, Conner Deer, Brady Murphy, Dalton and Parker Dicks, and Slade and Darby Sundahl; and nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her loving husband, Arnold; a sister, Beverly Brummett; and four brothers, Francis, Wayne, Marion and Maurice Phillips.

Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 8:30 p.m., Thursday, August 11, 2022, at Bryant Funeral Home, with family to receive friends from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, August 12, 2022, at First Presbyterian Church, 24th and Washington, Great Bend, with Reverend Kathleen Luke presiding. Larry Elmer Trout, 76, formerly of Bushton, Kansas, passed away on August 1, 2022 at Webster, Texas.&nbsp; Larry was born to Elmer and Emma Trout on July 24, 1946 in Great Bend, KS. He was raised on the family farm in Olmitz, KS and graduated from Hoisington High School. Larry often reminisced on fond memories of time spent with his parents, brother, aunts, uncles and cousins. He is survived by his Aunt Virginia Berlin of Boulder, CO and several loving cousins.

&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Larry shared 43 years of marriage with Laura, the love of his life, who survives him. He is also survived by three children: Dawn Trout of Rocky Ford, CO; Danny Trout of Lake Jackson, TX; and Crystal Trout of Lake Jackson, TX; and four grandchildren: Dylan Mortimore (&amp; fiancé Madison Cotterill) of Ellinwood, KS; Layne Trout of Rocky Ford, CO; and Emma Trout of Lake Jackson, TX. Larry Trout, age 76

Roberta Eloise Ahrens, 87, passed away on Aug. 6, 2022 at Hospice House in Hutchinson. Born on Mar. 5, 1935 in Rural Ellinwood, she was the daughter of Fred H. &amp; Viola A. (BreSaraLeenn) Muller. She graduated from Ellinwood High School and Hutchinson Community College. A lifetime Ellinwood area resident, Roberta was a homemaker, bookkeeper, substitute teacher and school secretary. Roberta married Morris Ahrens in Ellinwood on Sept. 8, 1957. He passed away Jan. 21, 1993. Her memberships include the Immanuel United Church of Christ, Women's Fellowship group, WCSC and church council.

Survivors include daughters, Cynthia (Fred) Gunn, Ellinwood; Brenda (Lyle) Smart, Hutchinson; sons, Ronald (Stephanie) Ahrens, Ellinwood; Martin (Elaine) Ahrens, Newton; 9 grandchildren; and 3 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by husband, Morris Ahrens and brother, Harold Muller.

Graveside service will take place 10 a.m., Sat., Aug. 13 at Lakin-Comanche Cemetery in Ellinwood, with Pastor Michael Munz officiating. Roberta Ahrens, age 87

Wayne Harold Hagerman, 74, passed away August 6, 2022 in Larned, KS.

He was born May 17, 1948 at Great Bend, KS, the son of Harold E. and Julia E. Brady Hagerman. A lifetime area resident, he was a farmer/stockman and served as State Representative 114th District for a two-year term.

He was a member of Peace Lutheran Church, Albert, Santa Fe Trail Center, Fort Larned Old Guard, Kansas Wheat Commission, and was a lifetime Kansas State Alumni and Veteran.

On May 2, 1981 he married Brenda West at Peace Lutheran Church, Albert, KS. She survives.

Other survivors include: brother, Charles (Chris) Hagerman, Larned; sister, Margaret Ann Spreier, Larned; six nephews, Lance Hagerman, Jeff Spreier, Tim Spreier, Brandon Holloway, Bryce Craig, Joshua Riedel and two nieces, Brianna Miller, Kayli Greer.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brother-in-law, Bill Spreier.

Graveside service will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, August 11, 2022 at Larned Cemetery, Larned, KS, with Pastor David Spare presiding. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday, August 10, 2022 at Beckwith Mortuary, Larned.

Kruckenberg, age 95 years, of Lyons, Kansas and formerly of Great Bend, Kansas, passed away early on Friday morning, July 22, 2022 at the Rice County Hospital in Lyons, Kansas.&nbsp; Lyman was born on November 19, 1926 at rural Great Bend, Kansas to Emil F. and Sophie J. (Soeken) Kruckenberg.&nbsp; He graduated from Great Bend High School in 1943, and served in the U.S. Coast Guard and the Merchant Marines for a total of 3 years in both the Atlantic Theater and Pacific Theater during World War II.&nbsp; Lyman was united in marriage to Esther E. Keil on December 15, 1946 at Larned, Kansas.&nbsp; He owned and operated Kruckenberg Construction in Great Bend for nearly 40 years, and estimated that he had erected over 2,000 steel buildings in the area over that span of time.&nbsp; Lyman and Esther loved traveling and camping with their RV, and Lyman particularly loved fishing, hunting, woodworking, and baseball – having played and coached both slow &amp; fast-pitch softball in his younger years.&nbsp; Lyman was a longtime member of Trinity Lutheran Church and American Legion Post #180, both of Great Bend.

Bonnie J. Schenkel, age 84 years, of Great Bend, Kansas passed away at her home in Great Bend on Friday, August 5, 2022.&nbsp; Bonnie was born on March 22, 1938 at Liberal, Kansas to Hugh and Gladys (Hibler) Harding, and had been a resident of Great Bend since 1969.&nbsp; She was united in marriage to John J. “Jack” Schenkel on June 29, 1961 at Clayton, New Mexico.&nbsp; Jack passed away on November 5, 2003.&nbsp; Bonnie worked as a breakfast cook for Herb Wong’s Chinese Restaurant and also worked at the former Trail Café in Great Bend.&nbsp; She also worked in the housekeeping department at the original Holiday Inn in Great Bend.&nbsp; Bonnie loved knitting, crocheting and embroidering, cooking and baking, and word search puzzles, and most of all, playing Scrabble.&nbsp; Throughout her life, Bonnie fed and helped raise several of her nieces and nephews, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She lived and loved to take care of her family.

Kyle Dean Tammen, 53, Rush Center, Kansas, passed away Friday, August 5, 2022, at his home.

Kyle was born March 19, 1969, in Larned, Kansas, the son of Dale and Sandy (Klaus) Tammen. He was a lifelong resident of Rush County. A 1987 graduate of La Crosse High School, La Crosse, Kansas, he was a farmer and rancher.

He was a volunteer firefighter for Rush County Fire District #3, and a City Council member, both of Rush Center, Kansas. He was a past member of the Fort Hays Shrine Club, Hays, Kansas, the ISIS Shrine, Salina, Kansas,, and the Walnut City Masonic Lodge #215, Rush Center, Kansas.

Kyle enjoyed dirt track racing, whether he was driving his car, or watching.

Survivors include: his daughter, Courtney Carlino (Daniel), La Crosse, Kansas; his parents, Dale and Sandy Tammen, Rush Center, Kansas; one brother, Kent Tammen (Mary Jo), Hays, Kansas; one sister, Kayla Hardwick (Daryl), Hays, Kansas; five nieces and nephews, Ashley Perez, Tyler Hardwick, Samantha Hardwick, Austin Tammen, and Brandon Hardwick; and three great nephews.

Janice G. Dunavan, 79, passed away August 6, 2022 at University of Kansas Health Systems, Great Bend, KS.

She was born July 31, 1943 in Denver, CO, the daughter of Evertt and Lula Mae Stevens Hallagin. As an Army wife she was a teacher and homemaker, and in 1990 she retired to farm life.

She was a member of the Pawnee Rock Christian Church, Women’s Gideons Auxiliary and Women’s Republican Convention. She enjoyed reading, horticulture, puzzles, crosswords, ranching and farming and loved spending time with her grandchildren.

On June 9, 1966 she married LTC Robert C. Dunavan at West Point, New York. He passed away May 1, 2020.

Survivors include: a son, Brian (Karen) Dunavan, San Antonio, TX; daughter-in-law, Melissa (Bill) Lloyd, San Antonio, TX; son-in-law, Jeff Gibson, LaCrosse, KS; brother, Garry (Jann) Hallagin, Kansas; sister, Gloria (Tom) Albright, Ohio; sisters-in-law, Sheryl Dunavan, Missouri, Janet Dunavan, Kansas; eight grandchildren, Channing, Zachary, Ian, Grant, Chloe “CJ”, Joshua, Karalyne, Madeline and numerous nieces and nephews.

Janice Dunavan, age 79

Sherry Eyvonne Smolik, 61, passed away August 4, 2022, at the University Of Kansas Health System - Great Bend Campus, Great Bend, Kan. She was born October 20, 1960, in Heizer to Manuel and Claudia (Piland) Biles. Sherry married Tom Smolik in 1978 in Great Bend. They later divorced, but maintained their friendship.

A longtime Heizer resident, Sherry also resided in Oklahoma where she worked as an RN and taught within the nursing program at OSU from 1988 to 1998. She was a faithful member of the Church of God and was an accomplished artist and poet. Sherry treasured time with her family, and having a servant's heart, never hesitated to lend a hand to a friend or family member in need.

Survivors include, her daughter, Heather Ramirez and husband Anthony of Great Bend; five sisters, Brenda Johnson of Albuquerque, NM, Lavonna Lick and husband Jerald of Peoria, Ariz., Susan Hartsell and husband Richard of Wagoner, Okla., Karla Biles of Great Bend, and Rhonda Suppes and husband Richard of Hutchinson; sister-in-law, Paula Biles of Great Bend; and five grandchildren, Anthony R. Ramirez, Zae Ramirez, Deziree Smith, Destiny Sanchez, Mahala Sanchez. She was preceded in death by her parents; her son, Chris Smolik; brother, Robert Biles; and a brother-in-law, Bob Johnson.

Sherry Smolik, age 61

Jerry L. Griffith, 102, passed away on March 8, 2022. He was born on July 8, 1919, in Collinsville, Oklahoma, to John A. Griffith and Elizabeth (Driskell) Griffith. He married Dorothy Fournier Durand of Hoisington, Kansas in 1942 and they were married for 57 years at the time of her death in 1999.

He was a WWII veteran serving in the United States Air Force. Upon his discharge after three years, he’d attained the rank of captain and returned to Lawrence to complete his law degree. He later was appointed a Doctor of Law Degree.

He and Dorothy settled in Hoisington, Kansas, where he practiced law for over forty years. He was the Hoisington city attorney for 30 years, the assistant Barton County attorney for 4 years, he was a board member and the attorney for Hoisington National Bank and the attorney for Clara Barton Hospital. He was admitted to practice before the U.S. Supreme Court in 1979, sponsored by Senator Robert Dole.

He is survived by his daughter, Rochelle McKown of Lawrence (Joel McKown, deceased), son, Robert Griffith (partner Eve Neugebauer) of Raymore, Missouri, grandson, Justin Griffith (Elizabeth) of Mequon, Wisconsin, granddaughter, Lindsay D’Agostino (Michael) of Leawood, Kansas, and great-grandchildren, George and Penny Griffith and Lucy and Rose D’Agostino. He leaves behind five nephews and one niece.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, his brother Dr. John Griffith; and sisters, Celeste Griffith and Margaret Evans

Celebration of Life and inurnment service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, August 13, 2022, in the Hoisington Cemetery, with Pastor Wayne Baldyga presiding.

Jerry Griffith, age 102

Delma Jean “Bubbe” Miller, 72, passed away August 4, 2022, at the University Of Kansas Health System-Great Bend Campus. She was born on April 12, 1950, in Hays, KS, to Delmar &amp; Dorothy (McGhghy) Marston. She married Ronald Kent Miller on January 25, 1970, at Plainville, KS.

A resident of Great Bend since 1989, Bubbe was formerly of Homer, AK, Farmington and Springdale, AR. She was an elementary school teacher at Alaska Christian School in Homer, AK, Shiloh Christian School in Springdale, AR, Greenland Elementary in Greenland, AR, Eisenhower Elementary in Great Bend, KS, and Sunnyside Elementary in Dodge City, KS, where she retired. She loved all children; especially her own children, her students and the strays (ones who were given love as they shared life experiences). Bubbe enjoyed playing the piano, collecting rocks and seashells on the beach, and telling her “Peter Panda” stories. Her life focus was on the things God called her to do. She loved to study the Bible and was dedicated to praying for her friends and family.

Laurin, Alexis Doonan (fiancé Conlan Miller), Austin Doonan, Jeremiah Laurin, and Eden Dawn Miller; numerous great grandchildren and the beloved strays. She was preceded in death by her parents; and an infant brother, Billy Marston.

 </figure>Delma Jean “Bubbe” Miller, 72, passed away August 4, 2022, at the University Of Kansas Health System-Great Bend Campus. She was born on April 12, 1950, in Hays, KS, to Delmar &amp; Dorothy (McGhghy) Marston. She married Ronald Kent Miller on January 25, 1970, at Plainville, KS.A resident of Great Bend since 1989, Bubbe was formerly of Homer, AK, Farmington and Springdale, AR. She was an elementary school teacher at Alaska Christian School in Homer, AK, Shiloh Christian School in Springdale, AR, Greenland Elementary in Greenland, AR, Eisenhower Elementary in Great Bend, KS, and Sunnyside Elementary in Dodge City, KS, where she retired. She loved all children; especially her own children, her students and the strays (ones who were given love as they shared life experiences). Bubbe enjoyed playing the piano, collecting rocks and seashells on the beach, and telling her “Peter Panda” stories. Her life focus was on the things God called her to do. Delma 'Bubbe' Miller, age 72

Orville Lewis Monroe, 87, passed away Aug. 3, 2022, at Country Place Senior Living in Hoisington. He was born Oct. 24, 1934, in Geneseo to John &amp; Amanda (Brandon) Monroe. He married Betty Jean Moulton, and they later divorced. He then married Jacquelyn “Jackie” (Brack) Eulert on April 14, 1976, in Albuquerque, N.M.

A longtime area resident, Orville started his career in the oilfield with Raymond Oil right out of high school. He then went on as the production supervisor for Clinton Oil, K&amp;E Drilling, Energy Reserve and the Sterling Oil Company. Orville then left the corporate world and started his own oil production business, Big O, LLC. He was a member of the men's coffee group and a former member of the American Legion Post #180. Orville served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict, obtaining the rank of Sergeant.

Survivors include his wife Jackie of the home; his children, Janelle “Jenny” (Monroe) Hejny and husband Daniel of McCamey, Texas, Eileen (Monroe) Wilkinson and husband Bobby of Denison, Texas, Melissa (Eulert) Dickson and husband Tim of Ellinwood, John Eulert of San Diego, Calif. and Bret Eulert (Connie Weber) of Great Bend; eight grandchildren, Rachael Dickson, Jeremy Hejny (Shannon), J.D. Hejny (Whitney), Jessica Brooks (Ron), Christen Cory, Amanda Robbins (Rocky), Josh Cory and Tony Hammond; 17 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Raymond Monroe, John Monroe, Jr., Francis Monroe and Bruce Monroe; and four sisters, Garnet Hicks, Mary Cormeny, Irene Droegemeier and Marguerite Cormeny.
