Michael Joseph Thayer, 64, died on Tuesday, September 6, 2022, at Spring Hill Care & Rehabilitation Center in Spring Hill. He was born on October 19, 1957, at Atlantic, Iowa, the son of Jerry E. & Peg (Degan) Thayer.
Michael graduated from Liberal High School with the Class of 1976. He moved to Lakin and worked at Lakin Automotive Supply until 2004 when he became a self employed IT and computer person. In 2015, he became a jailer for the Kearny County Sheriff Department. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, shooting and his gun collection.
He is survived by his 3 Sons- Jeff Thayer of Dodge City, Andy & Brittney Thayer of Hays and Gilbert & Heather Thayer of Spring Hill, Brother- Sean & Ronell Thayer of Garden City, Sister- Nan & Steve Kartsonis of Tuscson, Arizona, 5 Grandchildren-Jocelyn, Myles, Bowen, Easton & Scottie. He was preceded in death by his Parents, Step-Father- Gilbert Phlieger and 2 Brothers- Jeffrey Thayer and David Thayer.
Funeral Service will be at 10:00 AM Monday at First Presbyterian Church in Lakin with Rev Rita Stockton officiating. Burial will be in Lakin Cemetery.
