Paul J. Herrman, 101 years of age, La Crosse, Kansas, passed away Sunday, July 16, 2023, at Locust Grove Village, La Crosse, Kansas.

Paul was born Sepember 8, 1921, in La Crosse, Kansas, the son of Jacob and Mary (Heronema) Herrman. He was a longtime resident of Rush County, Kansas. A 1940 graduate of La Crosse High School, La Crosse, Kansas, he was a farmer and oil field mechanic for Phillips 66 before his retirement.

He was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Liebenthal, Kansas, Knights Of Columbus Council #2340, and the Virgil C. Dechant 4th Degree Assembly #3550, La Crosse, Kansas. He was a member of VFW Post 3147, and American Legion Post 33, both of La Crosse, Kansas. Paul was a former National Vice President of OCAW (Oil, Chemical and Atomic Workers).

He was a World War II United States Army veteran.

On July 23, 1946, he married Angeline “Angie” Dreher in Schoenchen, Kansas. She preceded him in death June 10, 2010.

Survivors include: five sons, Joe Herrman (Deb), La Crosse, Kansas, Leo Herrman (Vicki), La Crosse, Kansas, Jim Herrman (Marie), Rose Hill, Kansas, Carl Herrman (Lorna), La Crosse, Kansas, and Thomas Herrman, La Crosse, Kansas; two daughters, Marie Holopirek (Rollie), La Crosse, Kansas, and Ruth Schroter (Jon), La Crosse, Kansas; one son in law, Wesley Shannon (Sherleen), Ellis, Kansas; 33 grandchildren; 71 great grandchildren; 27 great great grandchildren; one brother, Ralph Herrman, Ames, Iowa.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; one daughter, Carolyn (Herrman) Shannon; four grandchildren; three brothers, Father Gilbert P. Herrman, Leonard Herrman, and Edward Herrman; and seven sisters, Isabel Basgall, Ruth Risser, Esther Boxler, Irene Raniszewski, Pauline Sutton, Abbie Rupp, and Edna Mehl.

Visitation will be Tuesday, July 18, 2023, from 4:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. at the Janousek Funeral Home, La Crosse, Kansas. A vigil service and rosary will be at 7:00 P.M.

Church visitation will be Wednesday, July 19, 2023, from 1:00 P.M. to 1:50 P.M. at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Liebenthal, Kansas.

Funeral service will be Wednesday, July 19, 2023, at 2:00 P.M. at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Liebenthal, Kansas, with Father Stephen Dabanka and Father Benjamin Martin officiating. Interment with military honors by the Kansas Army National Guard, and the Bazine and La Crosse American Legion Posts will be in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Liebenthal, Kansas.

Paul Herrman, age 101

Deryl Dean Marsell, 86, of Salina, Kan., passed away Wednesday, July 12, 2023. He was born on June 25, 1937, in Green, Kan., to George and Edna (Lowry) Marsell.

Deryl graduated high school in Ada, Kan., and attended Fort Hays State University before enlisting in the U.S. Navy in 1956. He was a career federal employee and retired from the U.S. Postal Service in Springfield, Mo. In retirement, he volunteered at CoxHealth Medical Center for 22 years. He and his wife, Mary, loved to travel, seeing 48 of the 50 states. His idea of fun consisted of playing all types of games, working on crossword puzzles, playing golf, and dancing and singing with Mary. He was a BIG KU basketball fan and loved the St. Louis Cardinals too. His great sense of humor will be missed the most.

Survivors include his sons, Darren Marsell (Kris), of Lorraine, Kan., Doug Marsell (Karen), of Russell, Kan., and Kent Pack, of Kansas City, Kan.; daughters, Rhonda Carryer (Robert), of Ogden, Kan., and Kim Pack, of California; 16 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Mary (Skala) Marsell; and sisters, Mildred Russell, Wanda Andrews, and her husband, John.

The visitation will be from 12-8 p.m. on Friday, July 28, with family present from 5-8, at Ryan Mortuary, Salina. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, July 29, at Ryan Mortuary. Deryl will be laid to rest next to Mary at White Chapel Memorial Gardens, Springfield, Mo.

Galen E. “Igor” Schmidt, 76, La Crosse, Kansas, passed away Friday, July 14, 2023, at Locust Grove Village, La Crosse, Kansas.

Galen was born July 11, 1947, in La Crosse, Kansas, the son of Cyril P. and Marie B. (Jira) Schmidt. He was a lifelong resident of Rush County, Kansas. A 1965 graduate of La Crosse High School, La Crosse, Kansas, Galen furthered his education graduating from Fort Hays Kansas State College, Hays, Kansas, with a Bachelor’s Degree in Industrial Arts. He was a foreman at KBK Industries, Rush Center, Kansas, for 20 years before managing United Ag, Olmitz, Kansas. He was then employed with Sykes Enterprises, Hays, Kansas, and Manhattan, Kansas, before retiring. After retiring, he enjoyed spending countless hours on the farm.

He was a member of Hope Lutheran Church, Rush Center, Kansas.

Galen loved farming, spending time with his family especially cherishing the time spent with his three grandsons. He was also known to swing a golf club, and enjoyed his time on the golf course.

On July 10, 1971, he married Donna Keener at First Lutheran Church, La Crosse, Kansas.

Stephen Craig “Steve” Ball, 70, passed away July 16, 2023, at his home in Bison, Kansas. He was born on October 6, 1952, in Great Bend, Kansas, to John and Coralee Ann (Lewis) Ball. On October 10, 1987, he married Linda Koci in Bison, Kansas. She survives.

Steve served his country in the United States Marine Corp and after being discharged, spent his working years as an onsite geologist in the oil field. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge Walnut City Lodge of Rush Center. Steve enjoyed hunting, fishing, dog training and farming.

Survivors include his wife of the home; three brothers, Richard Ball of Junction City, Kansas, Michael (Coleen) Ball of Hillsboro, Kansas, and David Ball of Manhattan, Kansas; two sisters, Candace (John) Cobb of Lawrence, Kansas and Crystal (David) Miller of Winfield, Kansas; stepbrother, Iver Tokoi of Abilene, Kansas; and stepsister, Amanda (Tim) Hilfiger of Spring Grove Pennsylvania.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Patrick Ball; and sister-in-law, Patricia Ball.

There will be no visitation as cremation has taken place. Funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, July 21, 20203, at Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home with Pastor Larry Schumacher presiding. Larned - Joseph “Joe” L. Yeager, 73, passed away June 14, 2022 at Via Christi Village in Hays, Kansas.

He was born April 6, 1949 in Great Bend, Kansas, the son of James and Phyllys Sweetland Yeager.

Moving from Overland Park, Kansas, he was an area resident since 2017. He worked in manufacturing with a career ranging from welding and plastics production to design and sales. Joe was a lifelong artist, focusing on photography, screen printing, and woodwork. He was a member of the Argonne Rebels Drum and Bugle Corps of Great Bend, Kansas from 1965 to 1970, marching in the corps’ color guard and rifle squad. Joe also served on the corps’ instructional staff during the early 1970’s.

Survivors include: his son, Patrick Yeager, Riva, Maryland; brother, Jeff (Jan) Yeager, Omaha, Nebraska; ex-wife, Joyce, Pasadena, Maryland; two granddaughters, Audrey and Lucie; two nieces, Leah (Michael) Yeager Schmit, Omaha, Nebraska, and Laura Yeager, Kansas City, Missouri.

He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Phyllys Yeager.

Cremation has taken place and a memorial graveside service will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday, July 22, 2023 at Larned Cemetery with Pastor Jarred Smith presiding.

Joseph 'Joe' Yeager, age 73

Evelyn Wilson, 87, passed away July 12, 2023, at Diversicare of Larned. She was born on March 15, 1936, at Versailles, Mo., to John J. “Jack” &amp; Dessie (Hess) Andrew. She married Robert Wilson on August 9, 1953, at St. John. He died February 25, 2019.

A longtime area resident, Evelyn was a dietary specialist at CKMC for many years until her retirement in 2000. She enjoyed traveling and riding motorcycles, painting t-shirts, sewing, reading, garage sales and working on crossword puzzles.

Survivors include, two daughters, Connie Wildeman and husband Paul of Hays, and Sandra Stevens of Winfield; a brother, Bill Andrew of Seattle, Wash.; three grandchildren, Bob Roller (Joanna), Twila Lasiter and Elizabeth Keller (Earl Lynam); and nine great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Robert; a son in law, Tommy Stevens; and many siblings.

Evelyn Wilson, age 87

Larry Wayne Stieben, 74, Otis, Kansas, passed away Wednesday, July 12, 2023, at his home.

Larry was born June 30, 1949, in Rush County, Kansas, the son of Norman W. and Alice E. (Weltmer) Stieben. He was a lifelong resident of Rush County, Kansas. A 1967 graduate of Otis Rural High School, Otis, Kansas, he was a mechanic at Stieben Service and Garage, Otis, Kansas, a family owned and operated business.

He was a member of the United Methodist Church, Otis, Kansas. Larry was also a veteran of the United States Air Force.

Larry was a Chevy man, a NASCAR enthusiast, and enjoyed mowing the lawn, and working on small engines. You would find him during football and basketball season watching his beloved Chiefs and KU Jayhawks.

On November 19, 1977, he married Patricia “Patty” Jurgensen at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Timken, Kansas.

Survivors include: his wife, Patty Stieben, Otis, Kansas; two daughters, Tara Brummett (Patrick), Cleveland, Missouri, and Hope Stieben, El Dorado, Kansas; and three grandchildren.

Visitation will be Friday, July 14, 2023, from 4:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. at the Janousek Funeral Home, La Crosse, Kansas, with the family receiving friends from 6:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M.

A 1967 graduate of Otis Rural High School, Otis, Kansas, he was a mechanic at Stieben Service and Garage, Otis, Kansas, a family owned and operated business.He was a member of the United Methodist Church, Otis, Kansas. Larry was also a veteran of the United States Air Force.Larry was a Chevy man, a NASCAR enthusiast, and enjoyed mowing the lawn, and working on small engines. June Marie Addison, 71, passed away July 2, 2023, at Diversicare of Larned in Larned, Kansas. She was born on June 30, 1952, at Great Bend, to Edward H. and Anna (Heath) Thackeray.

Recently coming to Larned from Eureka, Kansas, June was the IT Specialist for several hospitals in the areas of St. Louis, Southern California, Eureka, Kansas. She was a 1970 graduate from Great Bend High School, and enjoyed golf – even getting a hole in one - and bowling during her younger years.

Survivors include, a daughter, Theresa Parker of Birmingham, Alabama; a grandson, Nate Parker of Birmingham, Alabama; a nephew, Edward “Ed” (Renee) Mayer of Arkansas City, Kansas; and a great niece, Tara Lynn (Kenneth) Ellis of Larned, Kansas. She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Edward Raymond Thackeray; a sister, Shirley A. Rockhill; and a niece, Jari Jo Williams.

June Marie Addison, age 71

Patricia E. “Pat” Hinson, 85, passed away on July 9, 2023, at Hays Medical Center, Hays, Kansas. She was born on November 7, 1937, in Glasco, Kansas, to Fenton and Ruth (Grant) Blake. On November 23, 1958, she married Gary Hinson in Delphos, Kansas. He survives.

A resident of Great Bend, coming from Concordia, Kansas in 1974, Pat spent her working years as a hairdresser. She was the manager at the salon in JC Penneys, later starting her own salon, “Family Affair” before continuing that work at Hair Central. Pat was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Great Bend, the dominos club at the Great Bend Senior Center, and served as a Senior Regent for the Women of the Moose in Concordia. She loved the Lord, celebrating birthdays and holidays – especially Christmas, enjoyed her flower garden and bird watching, decorating her porch for holidays, sending cards for all occasions puzzles, crafting, but above all, spending time with her family, particularly with the grandchildren and great grandchildren, being “Grandma” and “GeGe”.

Survivors include her husband of the home; son, Greg (Alina) Hinson of Great Bend, Kansas; daughter, Tammy Hinson of Great Bend, Kansas; daughter-in-law, Michelle Hinson of Great Bend, Kansas; five grandchildren, Samantha Hinson, Natalie (fiancé Taylen Jackson) McAnulla, Tyler (Jessi Ziepfel) Hinson, Janell (Matt) Simmons, Blake Hinson,; three great grandchildren, Kendall Simmons, Abby Hinson, Jude Riggs, with Baby Simmons on the way; a sister, Joyce Fell of Minneapolis, Kansas; half brother, Eddie Blake of Lebanon, Missouri; half sister, Sharon Lavey of Albuquerque, New Mexico; and two foster brothers, Dwight (Helen) Haley of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, and Paul (Barb) Haley of Delphos, Kansas. Neal Scott Panning, 40, passed away July 3, 2023, at his home, rural Great Bend. He was born Oct. 31, 1982, in Great Bend, to Marvin and Debra (Schartz) Panning.

A previous Ellinwood resident currently residing in rural Great Bend, Neal was a graduate of Ellinwood High School. He furthered his education at Wichita State University, majoring in piano. As a talented musician, Neal was a winner of the Parnassus contest one of the years he competed in annually during high school and later participated in the Wichita State University honor choir. Neal was also known to be a skilled cook, being able to make “something” out of “anything.” He was an area restaurant employee for many years, currently working as a waiter at Los Cabos Fajita House, Great Bend. Neal’s true loves were playing the piano and organ, his dog, Indie, gardening, and time spent with friends.

Neal is survived by his parents, Marvin and Debra Panning and a brother, Ross, all of rural Great Bend. Other survivors include his aunts and uncles; Doug and Joan Panning and family, Diane (Schartz) and Dennis Jackson and family, Brian and Sharon Schartz and family, Gary and Kim Schartz and family, and Brenda (Schartz) and Jim Tucker and family. Judy Janell Hayes, 73, passed away on July 5, 2023, at Ellinwood District Hospital. Born in Larned on August 12, 1949, she was the daughter of Howard and Leona Keeler. Judy was a lifetime Ellinwood resident where she worked as a caregiver and owned Raymond Farm Supply. She was active in the community, donating her time to Meals on Wheels and the Heritage Club, and she was a member of the Garden Club in Ellinwood.

Survivors include sons, John Henry (Jacalyn) Hayes, and Jimmy Joe (Genia) Hayes; grandchildren, Zaid (Stepheni) Hayes, Ethan (Kennedy Harrington) Hayes, Jacob Hayes, Adam Hayes, Garrett (Cori) Hayes, Sophia (Patrick) Ringering, Madelyn (Kaleb) Schartz, Nicole (Adam) McKie, and Audrey (Austin Benavides) Likes; and eight beloved great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Ned Keeler.

Judy Hayes, age 73

Curtis Watts, 76, died July 5, 2023, at Clara Barton Hospital ER, Hoisington, Kansas. He was born August 22, 1946, in Bennington, Kansas, the son of Raymond L. and Phyllis J. (Collins) Watts. Curtis graduated from Bennington High School in 1964.

On July 7, 1973, he married Roberta Ott, in Gypsum, Kansas.

Curtis was the owner and operator of Watts Siding for many years. He later decided to change occupations and took up truck driving, a profession he thoroughly enjoyed. He drove over the road for many years for Kindsvater Trucking out of Dodge City, retiring in 2012. He also loved driving harvest truck for Hoffman Farms and was looking forward to the upcoming fall harvest. Curtis and Roberta loved traveling in their RV, spending time in Branson, and trips with the Newmar Kountry Klub. They were also lifetime members of the Good Sam Camping Club. When they weren’t traveling they enjoyed attending the Golden Belt Community Concerts and cheering on his favorite Nascar drivers, especially the Earnhardt teams.

He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Roberta Watts of the home. He was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Phyllis Watts.

Visitation will be 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Graveside service will be 1:30 p.m., Monday, July 10th, 2023, at Hillcrest Memorial Park Cemetery, with Pastor Larry Schumacher presiding.

Janet L. Dixon, 74, passed away June 27, 2023, at Diversicare of Larned, Larned.

She was born Aug. 2, 1948, in Great Bend, the daughter of Hugh and Marie Martin Adams.

A lifetime area resident, she was a Registered Nurse at Larned State Hospital. She was of the Christian faith, a member of the Larned Country Club, Bridge Club, enjoyed golfing, scrapbooking, crocheting, traveling, gambling, and taking trips to Las Vegas.

On March 2, 1968, she married Owen Harold Dixon in Lewis; he passed away on Dec. 13, 2020.

Survivors include: son, Michael Dixon, Dallas, Texas; daughter, Stacee Odom, St. Clair, Mo.; and brother, Kent Adams, Lexington, Mo.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; sisters, Ella Marie Halloway and Mary Lee Ableson; and brother Cecil Adams.

Memorial service will be 10 a.m. Saturday, July 22, 2023, at Beckwith Mortuary Chapel, Larned, with Bob Sallee presiding. Visitation will be 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, July 21, 2023, at Beckwith Mortuary with family present from 6-7 p.m. Inurnment will be in the Larned Cemetery, Larned.

Janet Dixon, age 74

Nelda Rae Pakkebier, 80, passed away June 30, 2023 in Shawnee.

She was born May 9, 1943 in Great Bend, the daughter of Malvin and Harriet Grandy Ford.

Nelda was a lifetime resident of Pawnee and Rush Counties. She was a teacher and then later a mail carrier, and she also helped her husband farm near Sanford. She was a member of the Rozel Methodist church and served on church committees at Rozel and Lacrosse Methodist Churches; a member of EHU Extension Unit, Rozel, Colorful Calico’s, Lacrosse, and was active in 4-H as a project leader. She enjoyed woodworking, painting, stained glass, and stitchery.

On Aug. 6, 1966, she married Marvin Edward Pakkebier at Rozel; he preceded her in death on Aug. 16, 2017.

Survivors include: two daughters, Pam (Ty) Welsh of Shawnee and Lea Pakkebier; seven grandchildren, Tyson, Trenton, Carly, Tanner, Ben, Rylie, Allie (Anthony); two brothers; four sisters; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Friday, July 7, 2023, at Beckwith Mortuary Chapel, Larned, with Sarah Leslie presiding. Visitation will be 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, July 6, 2023, at Beckwith Mortuary. Burial will be in the Garfield Cemetery, Garfield.

Hilda (Bender) Dietz, 96, of Russell, Kansas, passed away Friday, June 30, 2023, at the Wheatland Nursing Center in Russell.

Hilda was born at the family home on September 20, 1926, in Russell County.&nbsp; She was the daughter of David and Mary (Dietz) Bender.&nbsp; She grew up in the Bender Hill area and attended country schools until high school.&nbsp; She graduated from Russell High School in 1944.&nbsp; She then attended two years at Ft. Hays State University before teaching all grades in a country school for three years.

Hilda was united in marriage to Paul George Dietz on June 22, 1947, at the Trinity Bender Hill Lutheran Church.&nbsp; They made their home for a year in Russell before moving out to the family farm.&nbsp; This union was blessed with four children: Ronnie, Danny, Barb and Randy.&nbsp; After retirement Paul and Hilda moved back to Russell in 2001.&nbsp; Paul preceded her death on April 21, 2015

Hilda assisted Paul at the meat processing plant that they owned with bookkeeping and wrapping meats.&nbsp; She was also very instrumental in the operations of the family farm.&nbsp; She was a member of the Trinity Bender Hill Lutheran Church before joining St. John Lutheran Church when they moved back to Russell.&nbsp; She was a Sunday School Superintendent, a 4-H Leader, a member of the Ladies Aid Sorority before it was known as ALCW, V.F.W. Ladies Auxiliary, American Legion Ladies Auxiliary and sang in the church choir for over 53 years.&nbsp; She enjoyed playing cards, dancing, bowling, embroidery, crocket &amp; quilting, and spending time with family and friends.

Hilda’s surviving family include two grandchildren; Shaye Harris and husband Matt and Brett Dietz and wife Callen; sister, Linda Coe; great grandchildren, Kaden Harris, Kamry Harris and Sutton Dietz.

Hilda was preceded in death by her parents; husband Paul; sons, Ronnie Dietz, Danny Dietz and Randy Dietz; and daughter, Barb Dietz.

Celebration of Hilda’s Life will be held at 10:30 AM, Friday, July 7, 2023, at St. John Lutheran Church of Russell.&nbsp; Burial will follow at the Trinity Bender Hill Cemetery.&nbsp; The family will be present to greet friends from 9:00 AM to Service time Friday at the Church.&nbsp; A Memorial has been established as the Hilda Dietz Memorial Fund.&nbsp; Contributions and condolences may be sent to Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary, who is in charge of these arrangements.-

Gwenda Gail Deines, 80, died June 27, 2023, at Clara Barton Medical Center, Hoisington. She was born Sept. 18, 1942, in Hutchinson, the daughter of Randall “Tony” and Winifred “Winnie” (Shyrer) Chambers. Gwenda was a 1960 graduate of Hoisington High School. She went on to graduate from beauty school in Wichita.

On May 29, 1961, she married Jerry D. Deines, in Hoisington; they later divorced.

Gwenda worked as a ward clerk for Clara Barton Hospital for many years, officially retiring in 2012, but, unofficially, continued to work whenever they needed her. Her love of reading then led her to a position at the Hoisington Public Library, which she greatly enjoyed. She was an avid crafter, and enjoyed creating all sorts of things, especially her handmade greeting cards, which she liked sending to family and friends.

She was a current member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church, Hoisington, and was a past board member and served on the altar guild. She was former member of Concordia Lutheran Church, Hoisington, where she had taught Midweek School and VBS. In her earlier years, she was active in the 21st Century EHU and several bowling leagues in both Hoisington and Great Bend. She loved attending Hoisington Cardinal sporting events as well as watching Kansas Jayhawks basketball.

She is survived by her daughters, Lisa Stambaugh and husband Jerry, and Laura Deines, all of Hoisington; brother, Mike Chambers of Hoisington; brother-in-law, Jim Adams of Hoisington; three grandchildren, Macy Reinert and husband Logan of Great Bend, Nash Stambaugh of Lawrence, and Jessica Mullens and husband Trey of Aledo, Texas; four great-grandchildren, Tess, London, Nolan, and Landry Mullens.

She was preceded in death by her parents, a sister, Gloria Adams, and sister-in-law, Alyce Chambers.

Visitation will be 1 to 7 p.m., Sunday, with family to greet friends from 4 to 6 p.m. at the funeral home.

Larned – Kenneth “Red” Leroy Langley, 97, passed away June 26, 2023, at Country Living Home Plus, Larned, Kansas.

He was born September 1, 1925, at Admire, Kansas, the son of Alvin Leroy and Blanche Evelyn (Hoaglund) Langley.

He moved to Larned in 1964 and was of the Christian faith. He was a partner of L and M Construction with Ed Mauler and built bridges. He enjoyed life, telling stories, visiting with people, traveling, playing golf and was an excellent card player.

On February 22, 1948, he married Doris Gertrude Brumitt in Hays, Kansas; she preceded him in death on January 7, 2002.

Survivors include: daughter, Candace (Stephen) Dolan, Great Bend, Kansas; son, Floyd Guernsey, Enid, Oklahoma; nephew, Randy Brickley, Coral Springs, Florida; four grandchildren, Christopher Dolan, Zachary Dolan, Roxanne Guernsey, and Floyd Guernsey Jr. and one great grandchild Joseph Guernsey.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Doris Langley; longtime companion, Carol Gross; sister Dorree Brickley; niece Rhonda Moyer and great nephew Todd Moyer.

Robert “Bob” Lowell Hall, Jr., 74, passed away June 26, 2023, at his home in Ellinwood. He was born March 11, 1949, in Perryton, Texas, to Robert Lowell Hall, Sr. and Jacqueline (Kalber) Hall. He married Brenda Olson in 1974.

A resident of Ellinwood since 2006, Bob worked for Northern Natural Gas Company which later became ENRON for 29.5 years. He then became an over-the-road truck driver for various companies, eventually retiring from Van Wyke in 2011. Bob enjoyed camping, fishing, hunting, working on cars whether it was mechanical or restorative, and was an avid car collector.

Survivors include, his wife, Brenda Hall of the home; a son, Gerald Hall (Patrick Christensen) of Wichita; a son in law, Daniel Walker (Melissa) of Clarksville, Tenn.; two sisters, Linda J. Hall and Margaret A. Hall both of Dallas, Texas; four grandchildren, Kyle, Jackie and Kelley Walker, and Aubreanna Christensen; and a nephew, William Hall. He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Robert H. Hall; and a daughter, Sonya Walker.

Tyler Loren Reeves, 27, passed away June 21, 2023, surrounded by family at the University of Kansas Health System – Great Bend Campus. He was born June 26, 1995, in Hoisington, Kansas, to Patrick Jones and Tracy Reeves.

A lifetime Great Bend resident, Tyler was a sergeant at Larned State Correctional Facility. He enjoyed gaming, playing Pokémon and was part of the Dungeons and Dragons group. He also enjoyed shooting, playing guitar, cooking and taking his beloved dog, Axel, to the river with him. Tyler was known for his sense of humor and occasionally taking a joke a bit to far.

Survivors include, a son, Everhett Reeves and daughter, Hazelyn Trimmer, with another child on the way; his companion, Aeriana Trimmer; his mother, Tracy Reeves of Great Bend; his father, Patrick Jones of Larned; his brother, Keshaun Novak; four sisters, Trinity Reeves, Carmen Jimenez, Deijah Jones, and Kiera Jones; his grandfather, Gary Reeves of Great Bend; great grandmother, Jeanine Gowdy of Larned; his aunt, Marcy Reeves (Scottie Schmidt) of Great Bend; great aunts and uncle, Dan and Sue Gowdy, and Cindy Berscheidt, all of Great Bend; and cousins, Jourdel and JaLeea Reeves. He was preceded in death by his grandmother, Ann Reeves; an uncle, Eric Reeves; and great grandmother, Martha Reeves.

Visitation will be held from Noon to 8:00 p.m., Tuesday, June 27, 2023, at Bryant Funeral Home, with family to receive friends from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. Funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, June 28, 2023, at Bryant Funeral Home, with Pastor Larry Schumacher presiding. Inurnment will be held in Hillcrest Memorial Park in Great Bend. Memorials have been designated to the Tyler Reeves Memorial Fund, in care of Bryant Funeral Home.

Tyler Reeves, age 27

Elsie Jane (Holzmeister) Suppes – age 86, of Otis, Kansas passed away June 22, 2023, at Locus Grove Village Nursing Home in LaCrosse, Kansas.

She was born December 25, 1936 on the family farm at Pfeifer, Kansas to Raymond J. and Helen (Basgall) Holzmeister. She married Julius J. Suppes on April 11, 1959, at Pfeifer, Kansas. He preceded her in death on April 15, 2019.

She was a homemaker, a farmer’s wife, and attended Pfeifer Grade School. Elsie was a member of Saint Ann’s Catholic Church at Olmitz, and Saint Fidelis Daughters of Isabella at Victoria. She was a wonderful cook, an avid reader, enjoyed sewing and her family.

Survivors include her children, Patrick Suppes, Otis, KS; Glen Suppes and wife, Rita, Lindsborg, KS; Jesse Suppes and wife, Lori, Salina, KS; Wanda Dietz and husband, Bob, Smith Center, KS; her 15 grandchildren, and her 22 great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Raymond and Helen Holzmeister; her husband, Julius; her sister, Viola Dechant; and her daughter-in-law, Kathleen Suppes.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 A.M. Monday, June 26, 2023, at Holy Cross Catholic Church, Pfeifer with celebrant, Father James Moster O.F.M. Cap. Burial will be in Holy Cross Cemetery, Pfeifer.

A vigil service, and a Daughters of Isabella rosary will be at 6:30 P.M. Sunday, at Cline’s-Keithley Mortuary of Hays.

Visitation is from 5:00 to 8:00 P.M. Sunday, at Cline’s-Keithley Mortuary of Hays and from 9:00 to 10:00 A.M. Monday, at Holy Cross Catholic Pfeifer.

Douglas Jon Mead, Sr., 81, Great Bend, Kansas, passed away Tuesday, June 20, 2023, at Azria Health Woodhaven, Great Bend, Kansas.

Douglas was born December 6, 1941, in Portland, Oregon, the son of Carrell J. and Murel M. (Richard) Mead. He was a lifelong resident of Barton County, Kansas. A 1959 graduate of Pawnee Rock School, Pawnee Rock, Kansas, he was a driller in the oil industry before his retirement in 2002.

He enjoyed his time driving semi, traveling the country. He loved spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Survivors include: one son, Doug Mead, Jr., Cornelia, Georgia; two daughters, Toni Guyton, Ellinwood, Kansas, and Sheri Mead, Hays, Kansas; many grandchildren and great grandchildren; and one brother, Richard Mead, Larned, Kansas.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and one sister, Beverly Moore.

No services are planned at this time. Interment will be in Pleasant View Cemetery, Claflin, Kansas.
