Arthur F. “Art” Schneweis, 85, died September 15, 2023, at HaysMed, Hays, Kansas. He was born June 25, 1938, in Claflin, Kansas, the son of August and Martha (Penka) Schneweis. Art graduated from Odin High School.
On November 19, 1971, he married Betty L. (Dooling)Walker in St. John, Kansas. Together Art & Betty worked side by side as self-employed telephone contractors. She preceded him in death on October 2, 2020.
Art was the epitome of a patriot. He served proudly with the United States Army Reserves that was called to active duty twice during the Korean War. His patriotism didn’t end upon discharge, Art continued to lead in his local V.F.W. serving as Commander and participating in many veteran’s services. He was also an avid outdoorsman and hunter. He had a love for animals, especially his hunting dogs. He enjoyed sharpening knives and visiting with his friends at the Odin Store.
He is survived by; a son, Bruce Walker; two daughters, Pat Anderson and husband Andy, and Lynnda Walker; and three great grandchildren, Nathan, Heaven, and Brent.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Betty, one brother and four sisters, and a granddaughter, Krystle Leigh.
Friends may sign the book 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., Tuesday with family to greet friends from 6-8 p.m., at the funeral home. There will be no viewing as per Art’s wishes cremation has taken place.
Memorials service will be 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, September 20th, 2023, at the Church of Christ, Great Bend, Kansas, with Minister John Turner presiding. Inurnment with military honors will follow at Larned Cemetery, Larned, Kansas.
