James (Jim) Allen Woods trucked into Heaven to meet his Lord peacefully at the Fort Meade VA Medical Center in Sturgis, South Dakota Tuesday, August 1, 2023, at the age of 86. Jim was born in Ormsby, Minnesota in 1937 to Otho Glenn and Marie (Kreuger) Woods. Jim served his country in the US Army and spent several years in Germany after discharge.
Jim was in the trucking business for over 40 years. He traveled a million miles to many destinations in every state and met great friends along the way. Jim was a resident of Great Bend, Kansas for many years and enjoyed his later years in Spearfish, South Dakota painting and winning everyone’s nickels playing Bingo with fellow Veterans.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents Glenn and Marie Woods, his brothers Vernon Woods and Charles “Chuck” Woods, and his grandson Darin Hearn. Jim is survived by his sisters Colleen Abernathy of Spearfish, South Dakota, and Verna Gail Pochop of Albuquerque, New Mexico; brothers Otho Glenn “G.W.” (Sue)Woods, Jr. of Rush Center, KS, Gary (Kathy) Woods of Colome, SD, and David (Linda) Woods of Rush Center, KS; sons James Woods, Jr of Germany, William Woods of Russell, KS and Wayne Woods of Hoisington, KS; grandchildren Shaun Woods, Nicole Woods-Betts and Austin Woods; and great-grandchildren. Along with many nieces, nephews and cousins whom he loved tremendously and loved to tease even more.
Jim will be laid to rest at the Locust Hill Cemetery in Rush Center, KS on Monday, September 18 at 10:00 am. All are welcome to attend. As a member of the VFW, memorials may be made to LaCrosse VFW and sent in care of David Woods 113 N Elm, Rush Center, KS 67575.
