WICHITA, Kan. (AP) — Jaykwon Walton and Jahvon Quinerly scored 23 points apiece to lead No. 13 Memphis past Wichita State 112-86 on Sunday for its tenth consecutive win.

Walton, who played for Wichita State last season, and Quinerly were two of six players to finish in double-digit scoring for Memphis (15-2, 4-0 American Athletic Conference).

The Tigers recorded their most points this season, set a program record with 19 three-pointers and shot a season-high 65% from the floor. It was the first time since 1986 they have scored more than 100 points in back-to-back games.

“My biggest takeaway was the 19 3s we made as a team,” Quinerly said. “We shot the ball really well. … To be able to come out here on the road and shoot 19 3s was huge.”

Colby Rogers had 20 points to lead Wichita State (8-8, 0-3), which suffered its first loss of the season when scoring more than 80 points.

The Tigers held a 49-46 lead at halftime, with both teams shooting 60% from the floor. Wichita State tied the game early after the break, but Memphis erupted for 63 second-half points.

"We couldn’t get caught up in a shootout, and we did,” Wichita State coach Paul Mills said. “We are not the kind of team that can win those games.”

The American's leading scorer, Memphis' David Jones, was held to just two points in the first half, but the Shockers struggled to contain him in the second half. Jones finished with 19 points.

Nae’Qwan Tomlin scored 14, Nick Jourdain added 12 and Malcolm Dandridge had 10 for the Tigers, whose last loss came on Dec. 2. They are off to their best start since the 2007-08 season, when they began 17-0.

“All can say is wow, I was just as shocked as everybody else,” Memphis coach Penny Hardaway said. “We finally made some 3s and when they came, they came in bunches and that pushed the game away."

Harlond Beverly scored 17 points and Dalen Ridgnal added 15 for Wichita State.

Memphis: After being limited in the first half, Jones had 10 points in the opening three minutes of the second, which sparked a dominant half for the Tigers. Memphis scored 31 points off 18 Wichita State turnovers.

Wichita State: The Shockers got off to a hot start, hitting 8 of 9 to open the game, and ended the half trailing by three. Wichita State shot the ball well in the first half but struggled to continue the pace after the break.

Tomlin made his return to the Sunflower State for the first time since being dismissed from Kansas State on Dec. 6, nearly one month after his arrest for disorderly conduct. Tomlin, who was was arrested following a bar fight in October, committed to Memphis on Dec. 12 and has appeared in six games for the Tigers.

Steelers was postponed to Monday because of a lake-effect storm that
was expected to drop 1 to 3 feet of snow in the area. The Bills paid
snow shovelers $20 an hour, but one person who participated, Logan
Eschrich, says the work at Highmark Stadium was nearly impossible.
The storm was expected to taper off Sunday night, allowing time to
clear roads and prepare the stadium for the game.

that Fisch had agreed to a seven-year deal that will pay an average

national championship, the Huskies moved quickly to fill the vacancy
created when DeBoer left for Alabama. Washington athletic director
Troy Dannen targeted Fisch quickly and flew to Tucson, Arizona, on

The Panther wrestlers showed off their new No. 2 ranking at the Duwane Miller Dual Tournament at Kapaun Mt. Carmel in Wichita on Saturday. Great Bend went 5-0 with convincing wins against Junction City (71-12), Kapaun (62-10), Wichita Northwest (65-12), Campus (71-9), and fifth-ranked Andover (64-18).

Second-ranked Kaiden Hoffman pinned all five of his opponents with three of the matches decided in under a minute. Third-ranked Triston Tomlinson went 5-0 at 120 pounds with four pins, incuding two in 65 seconds or fewer, and a tech-fall to close out the day against Andover.

Third-ranked Cooper Liles had an easy day at 150 pounds. The senior pinned all five opponents with no match lasting even a minute. Sophomore Jace Schartz, ranked No. 3 at 157 pounds, moved between the 157 and 165-pound weights to finish at 5-0 with all wins coming by tech fall. Victor Reyes and Michael Montoya also switched weights with Schartz throughout the day. Montoya went 4-0 with all wins by fall. Reyes picked up open points twice.

No. 2 Panther wrestlers go 5-0 at Kapaun dual tourney

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — The Kansas City Chiefs and Miami Dolphins played the fourth-coldest game in NFL history on Saturday night, with bitter wind chills that made it feel even colder at kickoff and intrepid fans bundled up in parkas, snow pants and ski goggles.

The temperature for the wild-card playoff game was minus-4 degrees Fahrenheit (minus-20 Celsius), and wind gusts up to 27 mph made for a wind chill of minus-27 degrees. That shattered the record for the coldest game in Arrowhead Stadium history, which had been 1 degree, set in a 1983 game against Denver and matched in 2016 against Tennessee.

The coldest game in league history remains minus-13 for the 1967 NFL championship, when the Packers beat the Cowboys at Lambeau Field in a game that came to be known as the Ice Bowl. The wind chill that day was minus-48 degrees.

Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs handled the elements better than the visitors from South Florida, beating the Dolphins 26-7.

“It was cold, I'm not going to lie. It was cold,” Kansas City's quarterback said. “At the end of the day, you have to be mentally tough enough that if something doesn't work, I'm going to come back and keep firing.”

The bitter cold didn't seem to bother fans. Among them was pop superstar-turned-Chiefs fan Taylor Swift, who arrived wearing a puffy winter coat designed to look like the jersey of her boyfriend, Kansas City tight end Travis Kelce.

Many fans began showing up at the parking gates more than 12 hours before kickoff Saturday, beginning their tailgating right in the street. And while there was less tailgating than usual, the smell of pregame barbecue still wafted through the parking lots.

“We definitely had that initial shock when we looked at the forecast,” said Chiefs season ticket holder Keaton Schlatter, who drove from West Des Moines, Iowa, for Saturday night’s game. “We thought about maybe posting our tickets for sale and if they don’t sell, then we would go. But we decided that it’s all part of the experience.”

At least Chiefs and Dolphins fans could make it to the stadium.

The NFL was concerned that nobody could make it to the Bills' game against the Steelers on Sunday in Buffalo, where a blizzard was expected to drop a couple of feet of snow. So, the league and New York state officials decided to postpone the wild-card game until Monday, when the brunt of the snow was expected to have ended.

“We want our Bills to win,” Erie County Executive Mark Poloncarz said at a news conference in suburban Buffalo, “but we don’t want 60,000 to 70,000 people traveling to the football game in what’s going to be horrible conditions.”

The snow wasn't the problem in Kansas City, where more fell Saturday morning but tapered off before kickoff. Rather, the big concern was what the National Weather Service called “dangerously cold” wind chills, which were expected to make a forecasted temperature of minus-10 degrees by the finish feel more like minus-30.

“The spectators need to be prepared. Think cold ski trip or ice fishing,” said Dr. Sarah Spelsberg, who teaches in Northeastern University’s Graduate Program in Extreme Medicine. “If it's me, I'm wearing ski goggles, too. There would not be a millimeter of my skin showing in these temperatures. I had frostbite one time and I never wanted to have it again.”

About six hours before kickoff, stadium workers began to plow snow from the tarp covering the field, scoop it into trucks and drive it away. The field itself is heated, though, and it appeared to thaw out as gametime approached.

Dolphins wide receiver Tyreek Hill, who was back at Arrowhead Stadium for his first game since Kansas City traded him away, walked out for pregame warmups wearing a short-sleeve shirt. Chiefs linebacker Leo Chenal, who grew up in Wisconsin, arrived wearing shorts. Several other players, including Kelce, also had skin showing when the Chiefs took the field for their opening drive.

“Guys came with that attitude, that mentality — we knew it was going to be cold,” Mahomes said. “All week we were preaching, ‘Let’s come in there with that fire and just get after it and see what happens.’”

Meanwhile, the injury-depleted Dolphins (11-7) looked nothing like the same dynamic offense that led the league in yards. “Everybody was out there playing for each other,” Rice said. “We just put the weather to the side and knew that our opponent didn't want to be out there just as much as we didn't, and we showed our love for the game.”

But it was wind gusts, whipping through at more than 25 mph and driving the wind chill to a bone-rattling minus-27 degrees, that made the weather truly miserable for just about everyone.

She at least got to watch from an enclosed suite. Most fans bundled up outside in parkas, ski goggles and snow pants, and players huddled around heaters on the sidelines as if they were oases in the cold. The National Weather Service even issued a warning for what it called “dangerously cold” weather that had blanketed the Midwest.

In fact, the cold may have made Mahomes’ helmet brittle enough that a hit in the third quarter knocked a chunk of the plastic shell from it. Once officials saw the fist-sized hole, they made Mahomes get a backup helmet from the bench.

“We have to talk about where we store the backup,” Mahomes said with a smile. “It was like, frozen.”

The weather didn’t seem to bother Hill, who was playing in Kansas City for the first time since his old team traded him to Miami two years ago. The league’s leading receiver warmed up in a short-sleeve shirt, then proceeded to scorch the stout Chiefs defense and All-Pro cornerback Trent McDuffie for a his long touchdown reception midway through the first half.

“It's where it all started for me,” Hill said afterward. “Just being back on the field brought back so many memories.”

DUBAI, United Arab Emirates (AP) — Tommy Fleetwood has birdied the 18th to win the Dubai Invitational by one stroke from Rory McIlroy, who made bogey at the last after driving into the water. McIlroy led by one heading to the 18th tee but pulled his drive and saw it take a big bounce into the water. Fleetwood followed that with a drive into the middle of the fairway and sent his approach to 16 feet. That was well inside McIlroy after the world No. 2 took a drop. LUBBOCK, Texas (AP) — Joe Touissant scored 12 points and had a go-ahead three-point play with 30 seconds remaining to rally Texas Tech over Kansas State 60-59 on Saturday, running the Red Raiders' win streak to nine.

Texas Tech (14-2, 3-0 Big 12 Conference) trailed from the 3:51 mark of the first half until Toussaint's clutch play gave the Red Raiders' their 10th straight home win over the Wildcats (12-4, 2-1).

Kerwin Walton sank a 3-pointer to give Texas Tech a 22-13 lead with 7:10 left in the first half. Tylor Perry buried four 3-pointers, Arthur Kaluma and Cam Carter each hit one in a 20-0 run and Kansas State took a 33-22 lead into halftime.

Warren Washington scored 29 seconds into the second half for Texas Tech, ending a drought that reached 7:39. Washington added two more baskets and Chance McMillian hit a 3-pointer to pull the Red Raiders within 38-33 with 16:32 left to play. McMillian's three-point play and a basket by Kerwin Walton cut the deficit to 44-42 with 8:41 remaining.

Will McNair Jr. scored four points in a 6-0 run to push the Wildcats' lead to 55-46 with 4:37 to go. Washington missed the second of two free throws but Darrion Williams grabbed the rebound and turned it into a three-point play to get the Red Raiders within 57-55 at the 2:32 mark. Williams added two free throws 56 seconds later to tie the game at 57.

Perry hit two free throws with 41 second left to give K-State its last lead. He missed a jumper at the buzzer.

Washington scored nine of his 11 points in the second half for Texas Tech, adding eight rebounds. He topped 1,000 points for his career. Pop Isaacs and Williams both scored 10 with Williams grabbing six boards.

Perry led the Wildcats with 16 points and four assists. Carter made three 3-pointers and scored 15. Kaluma contributed 10 points and six rebounds. McNair finished with nine points, nine rebounds and five blocked shots.

Texas Tech has won 10 of its last 11 games under first-year coach Grant McCasland. The Red Raiders only loss in the streak was a 103-95 overtime setback to Butler.

Kansas State coach Jerome Tang and McCasland were assistant coaches on Baylor coach Scott Drew's staff from 2011-16. K-State leads the all-time series 26-25.

Kansas State returns home to play 14th-ranked Baylor on Tuesday. Texas Tech travels to play No. 2 Houston on Wednesday.

Toussaint rallies Texas Tech over Kansas State 60-59 for 9th straight victory

LAWRENCE, Kan. (AP) — Kevin McCullar scored 15 of his 21 points in the second half as No. 3 Kansas surged past No. 9 Oklahoma 78-66 Saturday, extending its winning streak over the Sooners to six games.

Hunter Dickinson led Kansas (14-2, 2-1 Big 12) with 24 points and 14 rebounds. KJ Adams had 15 points and 10 rebounds. Dajuan Harris had eight assists and no turnovers.

The Jayhawks committed two turnovers in the entire game, something the players said was an emphasis after combining for 35 in their last two games. Kansas coach Bill Self thought otherwise.

“I don’t know that we emphasize that nearly as much as what you guys (the media) think we do,” he said. “But we didn’t have to because the players all know.

"I thought we did a better job of taking care of the basketball. That’s probably about as well as we can take care of the ball. Two is a low number. We’re not good enough offensively to give away possessions. So our number needs to be under 10, or 10 or so.”

Kansas is looking for another offensive threat besides McCullar, Dickinson, Adams and Harris. On Saturday, those four were enough.

“Their ‘big four’ showed up and showed up big,” Oklahoma coach Porter Moser said. “We didn’t guard well enough the second half. We put a lot of pressure on our offense when (we) didn’t guard.”

Javian McCollum scored 17 points to lead Oklahoma (13-3, 1-2), which lost its second straight game. Milos Usan added 15 and Otego Oteh had 12.

Kansas finally grabbed a double-digit lead with 10:31 left on a pair of free throws by McCullar en route to opening a 16-point lead.

“I thought we played really well,” Self said. "Probably the best game we played, maybe since Connecticut (Dec. 1). That was probably the best game we played."

For Dickinson, this type of effort is what he expects.

“We all knew that we dropped one (against UCF Wednesday),” he said. “You don’t get many chances like that, especially how competitive this league is. And so we knew we dropped one, and this game was gonna be big, not only because we just lost but we were playing a Top 10 team in the country.”

No. 3 Kansas beats No. 9 Oklahoma 78-66

BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP) — The Buffalo Bills’ wild-card playoff game against the Pittsburgh Steelers that was scheduled for Sunday was moved to Monday amid a forecast for dangerous winter weather, New York Gov. Kathy Hochul announced Saturday.

Hochul and other officials said they were making the change for safety’s sake. “We want our Bills to win, but we don’t want 60,000 to 70,000 people traveling to the football game in what’s going to be horrible conditions,” Erie County Executive&nbsp;Mark Poloncarz&nbsp;said at a news conference in suburban Buffalo.

Officials advised residents to stay off the roads starting at nightfall on Saturday, with a driving ban taking effect at 9 p.m. The game will now be played at Highmark Stadium at 4:30 p.m. Monday instead of 1 p.m. Sunday.

Hochul said she started talking with the NFL on Thursday about the possibility of having to reschedule the game.

The Bills are familiar with weather-related schedule changes. In 2022, a lake effect storm led to Buffalo’s home game against Cleveland being moved to Detroit in November. A month later, a massive blizzard forced the Bills to delay their trip home, forcing them to stay overnight in Chicago on Christmas Eve.

Barton Community College Athletic Department announces the election of Jackie Jones, Kade Sander, and Neus Torregrosa to its Sports Hall of Fame.

A prolific versatile player, Jones capped his Barton career with a 2nd team 1989 NJCAA All-America selection in going on to become the 1990 Big-8 Conference Newcomer of the Year at the University of Oklahoma before turning his career into many years of professional basketball.

Sander is not only Barton's first wrestling signee out of high school, the Great Bend native went on to earn the Cougars' first individual national title at the 2018 NJCAA Championships to then establish a successful professional career in Nebraska.

A testament of grace and tenacity on and off the court, Torregrosa was named the 2017 ITA Junior College Rookie of the Year and earned the prestigious NJCAA "Jovana Vasic Spirit of Competition" Award winner in both years leading the Cougars to the national tournament before having a successful stint at New Mexico State University.

The Class of 2024 will be enshrined at a 2:00 p.m. induction ceremony Saturday, January 27, in the Kirkman Activity Center located on the Barton Campus. Induction ceremony is free and open to the public. Public attendance also encouraged in honoring the inductees between the women's and men's basketball games versus Pratt Community College later that evening.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — Chiefs coach Andy Reid doesn't sound as if he's ready to follow Bill Belichick and Pete Carroll into the next phase of his career.

Nor does Kansas City tight end Travis Kelce, for that matter.

After the announcement Thursday that Belichick was out as the coach of New England after 24 seasons, and news the previous day that Carroll was stepping down as the coach in Seattle, the spotlight naturally turned to the 65-year-old Reid, who had to clap back at rumors about his retirement in the days before leading the Chiefs to the Super Bowl last season.

“I haven't even thought about that," Reid said Thursday after the Chiefs concluded their final practice ahead of Saturday night's wild-card playoff game against the Miami Dolphins. “I figured that would come up as you were asking me these questions (about Belichick and Carroll) because I'm old, but I'm not that old.”

The 71-year-old Belichick needs 15 wins to surpass Don Shula's record of 347 in the regular season and the playoffs, and he has plenty of options if he wants to pursue them elsewhere. The Raiders and Chargers, two of the Chiefs' biggest rivals in the AFC West, are looking for coaches, along with the Seahawks, Panthers, Falcons, Commanders and Titans.

Reid has 280 wins for fourth on the career list, but he is picking them up fast in Kansas City, where he's won at least 11 regular-season games in 10 of his 11 seasons. He's already the career wins leader for the Eagles and Chiefs — no other coach holds such a distinction with two different franchises — and his two Super Bowl titles are tied for the fifth-most in NFL history.

Reid will be chasing his 23rd playoff win Saturday night; Belichick holds the NFL record with 31 of them.

Kelce has been around for a lot of them. He arrived in Kansas City in 2013, the same year as Reid, and after missing most of his rookie season to injury has put together one of the greatest runs by a tight end in NFL history.

He's been voted an All-Pro four times. He's been picked to the Pro Bowl nine times. He's set, or is close to setting, just about every franchise record for a pass-catcher, even though he is not a wide receiver.

Kelce has broached the topic of retirement in the past. But he said Thursday that he still loves playing the game, and that all of his outside pursuits — his relationship with pop megastar Taylor Swift, his successful podcast with his brother and Philadelphia center Jason Kelce, his endorsements and TV work — can continue to coexist alongside his football career.

“You guys don't think about retirement? Am I the only one in this boat?” he asked. "Whoever is not thinking about stuff down the road, I blame you. But I have no reason to stop playing football, man. I love it. We're still having success, coming in with the right mindset, and I just love the challenge it gives me every single day to keep being my best.

“I have no desire to stop any time soon,” Kelce said.

Has he pondered what the future holds whenever that time comes?
