Before the rains came, there was tennis to be played in Lyons. The Great Bend High School girls opened the 2024 season Thursday afternoon in Lyons. The Lady Panthers scored 48 points for the team title, followed by Pratt with 39 points, and Ashland with 26 points.
Paige Stacey posted a 3-0 record at No. 1 singles. She defeated Lyons and Chaparral 6-0, 6-1, respectively, in pool matches, then beat Pratt's Kate Jackson 6-3 in the finals.
Darcy Feist and Mac Lindberg also picked up the win at No. 1 doubles. The girls defeated Lyons and Chaparral 6-1 in pool play, then took down Ashland 6-2 in the first-place match.
Beth Hammeke and Mackenzie LaViolette also posted a 3-0 record at No. 2 doubles. The pair downed Chaparral 6-3, then defeated Lyons 6-2. In the championship match, the girls beat Pratt 6-3.
Clarise Snapp finished second at No. 2 singles. She defeated Chaparral 6-2 and Lyons 6-1 in pool matches but fell to Pratt's Sydney Riley 6-4 in the championship match.
The Lady Panthers travel to McPherson next Friday.
