Larned – James McGinness, Jr. 80, entered his eternal rest on August 1, 2022 at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita, KS. He was born on October 9, 1941 at Ava, MO to James and Bessie (Phillips) McGinness. He married Sharon Lloyd-May, on December 25, 1975 at Tribune, KS.

A Larned resident since 1981, coming from Great Bend, he was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Larned.

He was a devoted husband and father. The happiest moments of his life were spent with his family, and his children and grandchildren were his pride and joy. He cherished his four-legged “children”, Max, Coco, and Keesha.

He was preceded in death by a son, Ryan McGinness; his parents; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Carl (Cheryl) McGinness and Claude (Gloria) McGinness; a sister and brother-in-law, Judith (Harlan) Campbell.

He is survived by his wife, of the home; his son, Tim McGinness; daughter, Michele (Michael) Pfortmiller, all of Larned; grandchildren, Jessica (Aaron) Winger, Lubbock, TX; Nathanael Pfortmiller, McPherson, KS; Kimberly Pfortmiller, and Christian McGinness, both of Larned; a sister, Juanita (Joe) LeDesma, El Paso, TX; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Funeral Mass will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, August 5, 2022 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Larned, with Father Bernard Felix presiding. James McGinness Jr., age 80

Marcella Corinne Brin, 69, passed away on July 29, 2022, peacefully at her home in Great Bend, Kan. She was born on September 16, 1952, in Hays, Kan., to Adrian and Dorothy (Harris) Tremblay. On October 17, 1975, Marcella married Martin Brin in Hill City, Kan. He survives.

Coming from Hill City then Bazine, Marcella was a Great Bend resident for the past 22 years. She worked in the Hill City School cafeteria and the Cable Office in Plainville, before dedicating the last 30+ years to being a homemaker. She was a member of the Prince of Peace Parish at St. Rose of Lima. Marcella enjoyed gardening, rescuing all animals, fishing, working with kids and the elderly, baking and canning, but especially cherished her time with family.

Survivors include her husband of the home; two sons, Larry of Hays, Kan., and Anthony (Shannon) of Salina, Kan.; two daughters, Madeline (Michael) Bagley of Clovis, N.M. and Michelle (Jeff) Murphy of Solomon, Kan.; eleven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; one brother, Leland (Debra) Tremblay; two sisters, Adrenne [Andie] (Bob) Bell and Carol (Jerry) Nickelson; a mother-in-law, Elaine Brin; three brothers-in-law, Arlen (Linda), David (Kay), and Galen Brin; two sisters-in-law, Sheri Webb and Mary Meade; numerous nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents and father-in-law.

There will be no visitation as cremation has taken place. Services will be set at a later date. Memorial donations can be made to Prince of Peace Parish or Spiritual Bouquets, in care of Bryant Funeral Home.

Marcella Brin, age 69

Mary Lee Winter, 80, passed away July 29, 2022, at Almost Home, Great Bend. She was born July 3, 1942, at Hays to Basil &amp; Fern (Seaman) Ryan. She married George Alan Winter December 21, 1963, at Hays. George passed away January 5, 2021.

She grew up near Nekoma and graduated from LaCrosse High School in 1960. She attended Fort Hays State University in Hays, where she got her masters degree in education and met her husband George. They moved to Great Bend in 1964 and she taught kindergarten at Lincoln School until 1970. She was a member of First Assembly of God Church and was active in church activities over the years, teaching Sunday school and helping organize funeral dinners. She enjoyed reading, cooking, and spending time with her family. She was a good listener, and would offer encouragement to those in need.

Survivors include a daughter, Lisa Vance and husband Judd of Wichita; a son, Brad Winter; a sister, Ruth Ryan of Kansas City; and two grandchildren, Sara Vance and Erin Vance. She was preceded in death by her husband and her parents.

Graveside memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m. August 5, 2022, at Great Bend Cemetery with Pastor Dwight Dozier presiding. There will be no viewing or visitation, as cremation has taken place. Memorials have been designated to Almost Home, Inc. or Central Kansas Dream Center, in care of Bryant Funeral Home.

Mary Winter, age 80

Vera Jane Francis (Cassity) Storer, age 86, of Hays, passed away Tuesday, July 26th, 2022 at Hays Medical Center just two days shy of her 87th birthday. She was born July 28th, 1935 in Kincaid, KS to Wilmer “Buck” and Esther (Burlingham) Cassity. She married Donald Storer on September 8th, 1960 at the First United Methodist Church in Hays. He preceded her in death on April 6th, 2012. She was a graduate of Garnett High School and Sisters of Charity Hospital of St. Mary's College in Leavenworth, KS. She was a 40-year registered nurse working for Grisell Memorial Hospital in Ransom as well as Hadley Hospital in Hays. She was also a member of the First United Methodist Church of Hays and a Girl Scout leader. Vera was a passionate cook and baker; she adored reading and watching any good mystery. Above all, she was a zealous Kansas sports fan, with the exception of KU. Vera was also devoted to watching her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren in whatever sport they were involved in, rarely missing a game or track meet. She is survived by two sons, Dave (Debbie) Storer and Doug (Erin) Storer all of Hays; two daughters Lisa (Troy) Renz of Hays and Lori (Jim) Foster of Ransom; a sister Helen Miller of Garnett, KS; a brother-in-law Dale Akers of Hays; two sisters-in-law Beverly Turner of Hill City, and Margie Cassity of Hoisington; She is also survived by nine grandchildren, Jeff (Hayley) Bieker, Greg (Kassie) Bieker, Dustin (Stephanie) Foster, Taylor (Ashlyn) Renz, Hunter Storer, Courtney (Ryan) Gushi, Drew Foster, and Logan Renz, as well as five great-grandchildren, Brooke, Owen, and August Bieker; Harrison and Hayden Foster. DeWald, age 68 years, of Great Bend, Kansas passed away on Wednesday evening, July 27, 2022 at Pawnee Valley Community Hospital in Larned, Kansas.&nbsp; “Jan” was born on June 24, 1954 at WaKeeney, Kansas to Marvin and Anita (Waggoner) Middleton.&nbsp; She graduated from Hill City High School at Hill City, Kansas in 1972 and was united in marriage to Cory D. DeWald on August 21, 1982 at Great Bend, Kansas.&nbsp; Jan loved crafting and at craft shows was known as the “Kansas Shirt Lady”.&nbsp; In earlier years she was a Tupperware Representative, and was part of the group that formed the Christmas Craft Mall Co-Op in Great Bend and took part in it every year since.&nbsp; She also worked in the office at Dee Dove Chevrolet in Great Bend (and after it became part of the Marmie Motors Group) for several years.&nbsp; Slot machines, bingo, and Elvis were a few of Jan’s passions.

Jannifer DeWald, age 68

Janet Rankin, 95, passed away July 12, 2022, at The Village Of The 
Heights, Houston Texas. She was born December 24, 1926, on a farm in 
Albert, Kansas. She always said, “when my family came home from 
Christmas Eve service, I was dangling from the Christmas tree”. Janet 
was the daughter of Herman and Sena Behrens. She married Daylon Rankin 
on the very hot day of August 6, 1947.

She was a lifelong resident of Central Kansas, Janet was an active 
member of Peace Lutheran Church, serving many roles. She was also a 
supportive farming partner to Daylon.

Survivors include a son, Randy Rankin (Mary); a daughter, Pam Becker;
 three grandchildren, Laura Matyszewski (Sebastian), Colby Rankin 
(Paige), Ashton Becker (Sammy); and six much loved great-grandchildren.

Memorial service will be held on Friday, September 23, 2022, 10:30 
am, at Peace Lutheran Church, rural Albert, Kansas. Inurnment will 
follow at Peace Lutheran Church Cemetery.

Marsha L. Morrill, 75, passed away July 22, 2022, at her home in Seymour, Wisc.

She was born March 1, 1947, in Great Bend; the daughter of Ernest and Jane S. Heaton Morrill.

Marsha enjoyed a career in nursing, caring for others, and she was a lover of animals.

Survivors include; her sister-in-law, Ruth Morrill, Paola; two nephews, Josh (Linda) Morrill, Paola, James Morrill, New York, New York; and her extended family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, George Morrill.

John Emmett Stansfield, 81, passed away on July 25, 2022, at home in Great Bend. He was born on Nov. 01, 1940, to Jack and Elsie (McKnight) Stansfield. John was married to Barbara Hall on Dec. 12, 1981, in Freehold, N.J. She survives.

Recently moving to Great Bend from Brown Mills, N.J., John spent most of his work life as a factory worker and self-employed house painter. He was a member of the Elks and VFW Auxillary. John served his country with time spent in the Navy.

Survivors include two sons, Kevin (Debbie) Stansfield of Great Bend, and John (Linda) Stansfield of Wichita; a daughter, Lynn (Dave) Geis of Clifton, Colo.; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother, Jim Stansfield.

There will be no visitation as cremation has taken place. Funeral service will take place Saturday, July 30, 2022, at 10 a.m. at St. Patrick Catholic Church with Father Aneesh Parappanattu presiding. Inurnment will take place at the cemetery.

John Stansfield, age 81

Leo Harold Baum, 98, passed away July 25, 2022, at Country Place Senior Living Memory Care, Hoisington. He was born Aug. 28, 1923, at Susank, to Andrew and Katherine (Schmidt) Baum. Leo married Loretta Jean Cronn Dec. 12, 1949, in Russell. They celebrated 72 years of marriage last December.

Leo, a resident of Hoisington since 1970, and coming from Paradise, Kan., was a veteran of WW II serving in the U.S. Navy aboard the U.S.S. Philadelphia. Following his honorable discharge on March 29, 1947, he worked in the oilfield, the Helium Plant in Otis, and later, as a tool pusher for Mohawk Drilling. In his later years, he was employed at Great Bend Feeding as a night watchman. Leo enjoyed fishing, music, playing his guitar, and spending time with family. He was a Life member of the V.F.W., Russell, and was a devoted member of the Christian faith, accepting Christ at the age of 18. Leo shaped his life around his faith in Jesus Christ as his Savior, and made it his life's work to embrace and spread the Word.

Survivors include his wife Loretta of the home; two sons, Leo Baum, Jr. (Vicky) of Rusk, Texas, and Gordon Baum (Karen) of Buchannon, W. Va.; two daughters, Ginger Cotten (Joe) of Hoisington, and Brenda Roat (Damon Phelps) of Hoisington; son-in-law Terry Hekele of Great Bend; grandchildren, LC Baum, Bri Foresman, Kim Gould, Angela Gould, Tina Harman, Cassie Andrews, Kristin Wilt, Terri Umphres, Tiffany Hekele, Tyann Hekele, Micah Cotten, Sarah Simic, Rebekah Ohlde, Joey Cotten, Kristin Roat, DJ Miller and Trenton Roat; 22 great-grandchildren; 5 great-great-grandchildren; two brothers, George Baum of Great Bend and Jake Baum (Mary) of Kansas City, Kan.; and two sisters, Hilda Jacobs of Gorham and Lydia Kaufman (Gary) of Great Bend. He was preceded in passing by his daughter, Leota Hekele; and siblings, Helen Wolford, Mary Mermis, Edward Baum, Josephine Shreve, Rosie Thompson, Margaret Bissett, Viola Brown, Kenny Baum and Emil Baum.

Leo Baum, age 98

Duane Sack, 85, passed away on July 23, 2022, at Medicalodges of Great Bend, Great Bend. He was born on Oct. 19, 1936, in Virgil, to Leroy &amp; Florence (Owens) Sack. Duane married Donis Lindquist and they later divorced. He later married Betty (Drake) Miller on Oct. 10, 1983, in Great Bend. She died on May 28, 2022.

A Great Bend resident since 1982 coming from Bunker Hill, Duane worked as a pumper for Shields Oil. He was a member of the Prince of Peace Parish and a 50 year member Masonic Lodge in Russell, and was an avid golfer.

Survivors include one son, David (Laina) Sack of Phoenix, Ariz.; three stepchildren, Robert Miller of Shawnee; Cathy Peacock of Las Vegas, Nev., and Pam Finley of Great Bend; nine grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and one sister, Gail Williams of Russell. He was preceded in death by his wife; a daughter, Debbie Sack; and a grandson, Wesley Turnball.

Visitation will take place on Thursday, July 28, 2022, from noon to 8 p.m. at Bryant Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, July 29, 2022, at Bryant Funeral Home with Father Aneesh Parappanattu presiding. Interment will follow at Great Bend Cemetery. Thomas A. Nulton, 93, died July 23, 2022 at Locust Grove Village in LaCrosse. He was born Jan. 7, 1929, in Hays, the son of Charles and Ruby (Bourdette) Nulton. He married Phyllis Wikoff Oct. 21,1951, in Hays. She passed away March 23, 2012. Nulton worked for Producers Gas Equities Inc. of Hays and was promoted in 1967 as the area superintendent of the Susank division, which later became a part of MidWest Energy. Tom retired from MidWest Energy in 1994 and dedicated himself to pursuing his lifelong love of art. He was a Hoisington resident from 1967 until his death.

While he was a talented artist in numerous media, his passion became wood carving and he created many exceptional pieces until his health forced him to stop. Tom loved the outdoors, wildlife and bird watching, hunting, fishing, and camping. He loved telling stories and had many friends who never failed to listen. Nulton was a member of First United Methodist Church, Hoisington.

Survivors include his sons, Rick Nulton and his wife Darlene, Hoisington; and Mike Nulton and his wife Susie, Fort Garland, Colo.; two sisters, Norma Thoman and her husband Dean, Colorado Springs, Colo., and Audrey LaRue of Hays; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Phyllis of 60 years, two brothers, and three sisters.

Memorial service will be at 10:30 a.m., Monday, Aug. 1, 2022, at First United Methodist Church, Hoisington, with The Rev. Daniel Vandenburg and the Honorable Ron Bailey presiding. Charlie Lee “Hillbilly” Weber, 57, passed away July 19, 2022, in rural Harper County. He was born on Aug. 9, 1964, in Great Bend to George and Ruth (Watkins) Weber. He married Sarah Vasquez on June 21, 2014, in Great Bend.

A lifetime area resident, Charlie was the owner and operator of C&amp;S Tank Service. He was a member of Prince of Peace Parish at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, St. Paul Catholic Church in Lyons and the Charlie’s Angels bowling team. He was a very hard worker and took pride that he enjoyed his work. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. Charlie enjoyed watching his children and grandchildren participate in sports, but he especially loved spending time with his grandchildren.

Survivors include, his wife, Sarah Weber of the home; his father, George Weber of Great Bend; four sons, Jerrod Morgan (Carrie) of Riley, Jessie Trevino (Jessica) of Ponca City, Okla., Jordan Trevino (Erika) of Lincoln, and Mikal Trevino (Shazia) of Great Bend; four daughters, Kelsea Weber (Dustin), Mollie Weber and Letecia Trevino all of Great Bend and Mercedes Trevino of Bushton; three brothers, George Weber, Jr. (Zola), Jimmy Weber (Tiara), and Joe Denney (Sharon) all of Great Bend; a sister, Theresa Weber-Herzberg (Dale) of Great Bend; 20 grandchildren; and one great grandchild. He was preceded in death by his mother, Ruth Ann Weber; and a grandson, Michael Lee Morgan.

Charlie "Hillbilly" Weber, age 57

Harold Verle Larson, 87, died July 19, 2022, at Country Place Senior Living, in Hoisington. He was born Nov. 15, 1934, in Humboldt, to Hugo and Florence (Stark) Larson. Harold was the youngest of five children. He lived on a farm outside of Humboldt and then Chanute. He graduated from Vilas High School.

Harold met Wilma Tunnell at Colfax Church, a small country church outside of Chanute. They were married on Jan. 2, 1955. That summer, Harold and Wilma moved to Hoisington where Harold drove a truck for LD Niedens Trucking, a contractor for Kansas Brick &amp; Tile. Harold would live the remainder of his life in Hoisington, where he and Wilma raised three children.

After hauling brick for Kansas Brick &amp; Tile, Harold started working at Kansas Brick &amp; Tile, where he become a supervisor in their shipping department. Although Harold enjoyed the brick plant, his good friend Dean Koelling and Dean’s son, Bill, offered him the opportunity to return to trucking. He took the H&amp;K Trucking position, which led to other trucking jobs, including stints with Graves Truck Line, and WSKT. He remained in trucking until his retirement in 2000. During his trucking years, Harold met many life-long friends that have remained true, loyal and beloved to the day of his death.

Harold had numerous collections and hobbies. He collected barbed wire and competed in barbed wire splicing competitions. He was a rock hunter and collected rocks with his family all over Kansas, Oklahoma and Colorado. Harold collected cameras and old light fixtures and lamps. His light fixture collection morphed into his “Lights of Yesteryear” business, and for years, he and Wilma would buy old lights, restore them, and sell or give them away. Unknown to many people, Harold had an artistic flair. He painted signs, and even stamped and carved bricks into interesting, fun and beautiful works. Harold, along with Wilma, also collected and restored antiques. Harold always thought his best collection, however, was his many friends. Regardless of the many items he collected, he managed to collect even more wonderful, dear friends.

Harold did not slow down when he retired. He and Wilma traveled to all 50 states, almost always by car. Their passion was to visit as many of the national parks as possible, and they had a blast on the road to achieving this. Harold loved bird watching with Wilma and they were supporters and frequent visitors of the Kansas Wetlands Education Center. Harold loved spending time at the Cheyenne Bottoms and visiting other refuges. Although he was a fan of the Kansas Jayhawks, he was known to be just as enthusiastic about the Cardinals, Wildcats, Shockers and Tigers.

Harold loved his nieces and nephews and felt so blessed to remain close to many of them throughout his life. He enjoyed their visits, phone calls and cards, and frequently spoke of them. He also loved his grandchildren, Angela, Andy and Sarah, and was grateful for the time he was able to spend with them as young kids, teens and adults.

Harold was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Wilma; his sisters, Delores (Bill) Altoff, Eleanor “Nels” Havens, Mildred “Mid” (Marion) Booe, and his brother, Lawrence “Bud” (Rosalie) Larson. Survivors include, sons Alan (Patty) Larson of Bixby, Okla., and Rodney Larson (Lois Schartz) of Liebenthal, and daughter, Anita Larson (Tom Arensberg) of Lawrence. He is also survived by grandchildren Angela Larson Morris of Portland, Ore., Andrew Larson of Portland, Ore., and Sarah Larson of Omaha, Neb.

Harold Larson, age 87

Donald D. Wornkey, age 86, passed away on July 20, 2022 at Kenwood Plaza, St. John, KS. He was born on Jan. 10, 1936 in Caney, KS., the son of Roy D. and Maxine (Kilgore) Wornkey. 

He had previously farmed and worked at St. John National Bank. He was a retired maintenance supervisor and bus driver for USD-350 Schools and a St. John resident since 1966. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, former Sunday School teacher serving on various Church Boards, Second Mile Food Bank and the St. John Lions Club. 

On Mar. 17, 1954 he married Marlene M. (Pohlman) at Lewistown, Montana, she survives. Other survivors include a son, Don Wornkey, Jr. (Aurie), Hutchinson, KS; a daughter, Carolyn Boles (Kent), Wichita, KS; four brothers, Jerry Wornkey, Scottsbluff, NE, Tom Wornkey (Chris) Ellinwood, KS, Steve Wornkey, Ellinwood, KS, Tim Wornkey (Pam) Ellinwood, KS; a sister, Pam Nowak, Holcomb, KS; three grandchildren, Angela McGuire (Clint), Travis Boles (Gayle), Garrett Wornkey (Brooke); 9 great grandchildren, Cali, Brendan, Hunter, Alexia, Madison, Katelyn, Reese, Creighton, Declan and one expected in Aug. 

He was preceded in death by both parents and a brother, Jim Wornkey. 

Visitation will be from 1-7PM on Friday, July 22, 2022 at Minnis Chapel, St. John, with family present from 5-7PM. Donald Wornkey, age 86

Sharon L. Tammen, 74, died July 16, 2022, at Hilltop Lodge, in Beloit.&nbsp;

She was born March 14, 1948, in&nbsp; Great Bend, the daughter of LeRoy and Neita Mae (Hysell) Davidson. Sharon graduated from Claflin High School in 1966 and later attended business school. She worked for many years as a bookkeeper at Electrex Inc. in Hutchinson and later worked for Walmart in Newton and in Colorado. Sharon was a very creative individual. She loved sewing and was very crafty. Family was extremely important to Sharon, and she really loved celebrating the holidays.

On Sept. 27, 1969, she married Frank C. Tammen at the Peace Lutheran Church in Albert. He survives along with their two children; Kyle Tammen and Sonya Tammen of Highlands Ranch, Colo. Other survivors include; a brother Terry Davidson of Beloit, and her two beloved grandchildren, Wyatt and Ethan Harris.

Visitation will be 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday, with family to receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, July 26, 2022, at Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home Chapel, with Pastor Diana Webster presiding. Burial will follow in Claflin Cemetery.

Finger, 94, Passed away July 20, 2022 at Country Living Senior Plus, Larned.

Agnes Vondracek was born October 24, 1927, at Timken,
Kansas, the daughter of Joseph A. and Ludmila Pechanec Vondracek.&nbsp; She attended the Timken Grade School, Bison
High School, graduating with the class of 1945.&nbsp;
She also attended Fort Hays State College.&nbsp; Agnes taught in the Timken Grade School for
the years of 1946 and 1947.&nbsp; She worked
in the Farmers and Merchants State Bank of La Crosse for a short period of time
before her marriage.

Leonard A. Finger and Agnes Vondracek were married on
May 11, 1948, in the Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Timken, Kansas.&nbsp; This was in a double wedding ceremony with
Helen Pechanec, Agnes’ cousin, and Leonard’s brother, Marvin.&nbsp; Father Emil J. Kapaun, who later was a Korean
War Chaplain, was Pastor of the Timken Parish and witnessed their marriage as
well as Father Norbert Staab of Larned, and Father Frank Huslig of La Crosse,
assisting.

Leonard and Agnes began their married life on the
Finger home place north of Larned before moving to a farm eleven miles west of
Larned in 1950 that was to be their home for the next 50 years before retiring
to Larned.&nbsp; Agnes enjoyed gardening, yard
work, refinishing furniture, researching family history and quilting.&nbsp; Working with young people was also her joy
and she was the Tiny Toilers 4-H club foods leader for many years when her
daughters were in 4-H.&nbsp; She taught religious
education classes for her church and formerly served on the Education Committee
as well as the Endowment Board.&nbsp; She
served on the Pawnee County 4-H Foundation and assisted with the 4-H Fair and
later with the Pawnee County Open Fair.&nbsp;
She felt privileged to visit the homebound members of her church and was
active on the Funeral Dinner Group of the Altar Society for many years.

Survivors include three sons: Mark and wife Jonnie,
Lawrence, Greg, Garfield; Tom and wife, Connie, Augusta; son-in-law, Dave
Vickery, daughters Margaret and husband Lee Scheufler, Sterling; Susan Latimore,
Larned; Julie and husband Scott Borchardt, Walpole, Massachusetts.&nbsp; Nineteen grandchildren and twenty-two
great-grandchildren.&nbsp; 

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband,
Leonard, her two brothers Frank and Rudy and their wives, her daughter Mary
Ellen, daughter-in-law Jennifer Otte Finger and a grandson Garrett Finger.

Funeral Mass will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday, July 23,
2022 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Father Bernard Felix presiding.&nbsp; Vigil service and Rosary will be 7:00 p.m.

Agnes Finger, age 94

Betty Ann (Schwien) Radke was born Aug. 19, 1932, in Russell County,&nbsp; the daughter of Sigmund and Lydia (Bender) Schwien. Betty passed away July 18, 2022, at the Hays Medical Center in Hays, at the age of 89 years and 11 months. &nbsp; Betty was baptized Sept. 18, 1932, and confirmed April 14, 1946, in the Bender Hill Church. Betty was united in marriage with Hubert S. Radke at the United Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Milberger, on June 12, 1949. Betty was a dedicated farmer’s wife and devoted mother of four children.&nbsp; She worked alongside her husband in the farming and construction business, and the sons later joined with Sammy in the dirt construction business and Jon in the farming and stockman business. Betty, along with her husband, were youth leaders at the United Emmanuel Lutheran Church. She sang in the church choir and a gospel singing group sharing the Word of God to many around the state. She welcomed anyone to her home and they could expect a great meal or a good visit. She was talented in sewing, cooking and gardening. Betty is survived by two sons, Sammy H. Radke and wife Penny, of Milberger; Jon Radke and wife Brenda, of Hays; two daughters, Kathleen M. Radke and husband Steven, Hays; and Elizabeth A. Radke and Gary Jacobs of Russell; two granddaughters, Melissa D. Radke and Mandy L. Radke both of Russell; two grandsons Tyler R. Angle and Sheldon F. Angle, both of Hays; and five great-grandchildren, Natasha and Ashtyn Hare, Camren and Evan Herbel and Wyatt Radke, Russell. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two brothers and two sisters.

A celebration of Betty’s life will be held at 10:30 AM, Saturday, July 23, 2022, at the United Emmanuel Lutheran Church of Milberger. Burial will follow at the Milberger Cemetery. She was born on June 30, 1933, in Phillipsburg, to Raymond &amp; Gladys (Runion) Crider. She married Bert A. Luse, Jr. on January 13, 1957, at St. John’s Episcopal Church in Great Bend. He died September 13, 2006.

A longtime Great Bend resident, Ida was the owner and operator alongside her husband Bert of Sir Anthony's Bar, Some Other Place outdoor dance pavilion and many rentals. She graduated from Phillipsburg High School, received her Master's degree from Kansas Wesleyan University in Salina and her Bachelor's degree from Kansas State Teacher's College in Emporia. She taught music in Pawnee Rock and Great Bend schools, as well as 3rd grade at Riley Elementary. Ida enjoyed collecting antiques, traveling, playing bingo and gambling.

Survivors include, a cousin, Arleen Whittaker of Great Bend and her two daughters, Sheryl Butler and Michelle Benoit and their families; and her faithful caregiver, Richard Stanley. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Bert Luse, Jr.; and daughter, Diana Rae Scheuerman.

There will be no visitation as cremation has taken place and graveside services will be held at a later date. Memorials have been designated to Dreams, Inc., in care of Bryant Funeral Home.

Mildred Menges, age 67

Ernie Lee Killman Jr., 60, passed away July 15, 2022, in Larned.

He was born June 30, 1962 in Blackwell, Okla., the son of Ernie Lee and Lynna Linn McHenry Killman.

A longtime area resident, he worked in the oil fields and custom cutting. He loved helicopters and RC cars.

Survivors include: son, Bryan (Mickey) Killman, Ark City; daughter, Amber Killman, Udall; brother, Brad Thomas, Enid, Okla.; sister, Gina (John) Hunter, Larned; 15 grandchildren; a long list of cousins, nieces, and nephews, and his favorite person, Amanda Case, Cimmaron.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Jerry Killman and Jack Killman; and a grandson, Braxton Beatty.

Ernie Killman, Jr., age 60

Shirley Ann Clark, 87, passed away July 14, 2022, at Grand Plains Skilled Nursing and Rehab in Pratt.

She was born Feb. 10, 1935, in Harrisonville, Mo., the daughter of Osa Mae Jackson.

A lifetime area resident, she was a physical therapy aide for both St. Joseph Memorial Hospital, Larned and Central Kansas Medical Center, Great Bend. She was a pet lover and enjoyed watching sports, listening to music, working in the community, and spending time with her family, especially her children and grandchildren.

Survivors include: five sons, Rick (Shuan Wang) Clark, Monrovia, Calif., Edward (Anna) Clark, St. John, Daniel Clark, Lakewood, Colo., Jeffrey (Stephanie) Clark, Larned, Joel Clark, Larned; two daughters, Norma (Richard) Hooton, Larned, Sandra Clark, Dodge City; 12 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Osa Mae Jackson, brother, Jack Jackson, daughter-in-law Maxine Clark, and a grandchild, Caeleb Devante Clark.

Graveside service will be 9 a.m. Thursday, July 21, 2022, at Larned Cemetery with Pastor Damon Bradley presiding. Visitation will be 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday, July 20, 2022, at Beckwith Mortuary, Larned. Burial will be in the Larned Cemetery.

Shirley Clark, age 87

Jerome G. “Cowboy” Deines, 87, passed away July 14, 2022, at Medicalodges of Great Bend. He was born on August 2, 1934, in Hays, Kan. to Bernhardt &amp; Josephine (Krug) Deines. He married Dolores "June" Norris April 12, 1953, in Russell, Kan. She died April 17, 2017.

A longtime resident of Pauls Valley, Okla., Cowboy also resided in Great Bend and Russell, Kan. for many years. The oil field being Cowboy’s life passion, he was the owner and operator of Cowboys Oil Field Products, Bronco Supply and MJR Investments, and was a member of the Masonic Lodge. Cowboy enjoyed raising his cattle and race horses. He and June loved to spend time traveling with friends. When he saw someone in need he always stepped up to help. Cowboy worked hard and liked to celebrate life.

Survivors include, his son, Jerry Deines of Pauls Valley, Okla.; two daughters, Connie Cale and husband Chet of Great Bend, Kan. and Raelene Steinert of Norman, Okla.; a brother, Steve Deines of Russell, Kan.; six grandchildren, Nicole Helfrich, Autumn Cale, Callie Cale (Gavin Rondeau), Cody Cale (Tammi), Tanner Cale and Lisa Espinoza; and six great grandchildren, Matilda Cale Rondeau, Henri Cale Rondeau, Arthur Cale Rondeau, Sophia Cale, Lincoln Cale and Gabriela Espinoza. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, June Norris; a daughter in law, Cathy Deines; and a brother, Kenneth Deines.

Funeral services for Cowboy are scheduled for 10:00 a.m. Thursday, July 21, 2022 in the Wooster Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Joel Downing officiating. Masonic Committal Services will be held. Bonnie Jean Peacock, age 63 years, of Great Bend, passed away early on Wednesday morning, July 13, 2022, at her home in Great Bend.&nbsp; Bonnie was born on Jan. 31, 1959 in Hays, to Norman and Richie (Mallory) Gordon, and she grew up in WaKeeney until she was in the seventh grade, at which time the family moved to Goodland. Bonnie graduated from Goodland High School in 1977 and then attended Northwest Kansas Area Vocational-Technical School for two years, where she earned a degree in Cosmetology.&nbsp; She was united in marriage to Randall D. Peacock on Aug. 18, 1980, in Norfolk, Va.&nbsp; The couple moved to Great Bend in 1991, and Bonnie worked as a Food Service Employee for USD 428 at Park Elementary School in Great Bend for 21 years until her retirement in 2021.&nbsp; Bonnie enjoyed cooking, going to yard sales, and thoroughly loved spending time with her family.

Survivors include her husband, Randall D. Peacock of Great Bend; three sons: Randall Painter of Chesterton, Md., Daniel (&amp; Shannon) Peacock of Mt. Bonnie Peacock, age 63

Roger L. Hanhardt, 76, Hays, died Monday, July 11, 2022 at HaysMed.

He was born June 17, 1946 in Great Bend, the son of Albert and Ella (Folkerts) Hanhardt. Roger grew up in Albert and graduated from Pawnee Rock High School in 1964. Throughout high school he enjoyed playing basketball and met many good people who remained lifelong friends. 

In 1964, he graduated from Kansas School of Barbering in Wichita and worked briefly before he was drafted into the U.S. Army, serving in Vietnam as an operating room tech (surgical) in the 36th Evacuation Hospital from 1965-1968. In the fall of 1969, he enrolled at Kansas State University, graduating in 1972 with a B.S. Degree in secondary education. 

He spent 20 years in sales working at numerous car dealerships and VICKERS Petroleum, Diamond Shamrock, and Magic Chef. In 1996, he attended the Missouri School of Auctioneering, a pursuit he really enjoyed. He reinstated his barber license and for 14 years, successfully ran Vintage Barber Shop in Hays. 

On May 19, 2001 he was united in marriage to Sally Jo (Mapes) Pfannenstiel in Albert, and they celebrated 21 years of marriage. Roger was a member of Messiah Lutheran Church and the VFW. He loved cars, his dogs, and was an avid K-State football fan.

Survivors include his wife Sally Jo of Hays, two stepsons: Jesse Pfannenstiel of Topeka and Andrew Pfannenstiel of Colorado Springs, CO, one brother: Don Hanhardt and wife Marty of Albert, and three grandchildren: Sophia, Brooks, and Scarlett Pfannenstiel.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 am on Saturday, July 16, 2022 at Peace Lutheran Church in Albert. The family will receive friends from 5:00 pm until 7:00 on Friday at Hays Memorial Chapel Funeral Home in Hays. Inurnment will be at a later date in Mt. Allen Cemetery, Hays.
