Irving Tournear, age 79

Irving Gail Tournear, 79, passed away Feb. 18, 2023 at his home in Larned.

He was born Dec. 13, 1943, in Great Bend, the son of Irving G. and Mildred J. Asher Tournear.

A lifetime Great Bend resident, he was a firefighter for Great Bend Fire Department until his retirement in 1985. He later moved to Larned, where he was a member of the Larned Chamber of Commerce. He was also a member of the Great Bend American Legion, and the St Rose School Board.

Survivors include: two sons, Derek M. (Jaine) Tournear, Nokesvilles, Va., Jonathan Joseph (Kelly) Ware, Olathe; three brothers, Larry G. Tournear, Gary L. Tournear, Ron D. Tournear; nine grandchildren, Caitlin, Seth, Spence, Savannah, Dakota, Weston, Xavier, Paxton, John, and four great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a son, James “Jimmy” Lee Tournear, and a daughter, Gail Renee Tournear.

Graveside service will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 28, 2023, at Lyons Cemetery, Lyons, with Rev. Tim Bever presiding. Visitation will be 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday, Feb. 27, 2023, at Beckwith Mortuary Larned with family present from 4-6 p.m. Burial in Lyons Cemetery with military graveside rites.
