Brenda V. Green, age 72 years, a longtime Ellinwood resident, passed away at her home in Ellinwood on Thursday afternoon, April 13, 2023.&nbsp; Brenda was born on March 10, 1951, at Wild Cherry, Ark. to Oren O. and Versie (Chism) Staggs.&nbsp; She moved to Pawnee Rock in 1991 and relocated to Ellinwood about a year later. Brenda was employed at Great Bend Packing for 16 years until its closure. She enjoyed gardening, camping, sitting around a campfire, yard sales, computers, and dearly loved her animals.

Survivors include one son, Brandon Green of Arkansas; two brothers: Sam (&amp; Sharon) Staggs of Protection, and Randy Staggs of Larned; two sisters: Goldie Elsen of Ellinwood, and Connie Wallis of Pawnee Rock; nieces and nephews. Brenda was preceded in death by her parents; a son Billy Dale Green, a daughter Melissa D. Green, and a sister Sylvia Calvert.

According to her wishes, cremation has been chosen, and a Celebration of Life Service will be held at a later date. Larned – Patrick Andrew “Pat” Seeman, 83, passed away April 13, 2023 at Diversicare of Larned.

Pat was born November 23, 1939, the oldest of 6 children, to Junior and Maudie (Hill) Seeman in Larned, KS. He attended a country school north of Larned close to his family farm. Later, he lived with his grandparents while attending Larned High School, graduating in 1957.

Pat received track and football scholarships to Garden City Community College. Shortly before graduating, a new coach at Garden City Community College recruited him to play at Oklahoma State University. However, the National Guard called him to serve. He spent several months at Ft. Smith in Arkansas. He later attended 1 year at Fort Hays State University. He met and married Laurie Niedens, they were married for over 56 years, later divorcing.

Pat began his long banking career with BIC in Great Bend, KS. He was transferred around the state as he worked his way up. In 1976, he was hired by the First State Bank of Larned and was able to return to his home town as a loan officer, primarily focusing on ag lending.

He enjoyed over 20 years of refereeing football and basketball. Pat was an avid hunter and trapper, actually being appointed by the State of Kansas to trap nuisance animals. He spent time volunteering with Pheasants Forever.

After his retirement, Pat spent years attending Carr Auctions buying and collecting antiques, particularly enjoying art glass and pottery.

He is survived by: two children, Shellie Thill, husband David, of Bella Vista, AR, Michael Seeman and wife Leigh Anne of Larned, KS; four grandchildren and three step grandchildren: Emilie Thill, fiancé Brad Carlson, Kansas City, MO, Ashlie Nevola, husband Dylan, Kansas City, MO, Thomas Thill, wife Haley, Derby, KS, Katie Carlton, husband Brian, Larned, KS, Tyler Stelter, Orlando, FL, Megan Stelter, Salina, KS, and Jack Stelter, Manhattan, KS; two great grandchildren, Emmett and Jocee Carlton, Larned, KS; two brothers, Steven (Michelle) Seeman, Larned, KS, Mark (Becky) Seeman, Salina, KS; two sisters Jody (Don) Crosby, Diamond Head, MS, Susan (Vance) Smith, Larned, KS.

The family would like to thank cousins George and Connie Seeman who provided hours of support and friendship, as well as Pawnee Valley Community Hospital and Diversicare of Larned for the health care he received.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and a brother, John Duncan and his wife Katie.

Genevieve O. “Geneva” Wendler, 91, passed away April 13, 2023, at Good Samaritan in Olathe, Kan. She was born November 9, 1931, in Bazine, to Joseph &amp; Clara (Werth) Stoecklein. She married Anthony “Toney” Wendler August 8, 1949, in Ness City. He died March 3, 1981.

A long time area resident, Geneva was a CNA for 35 years at Central Kansas Medical Center and at Great Bend Manor. She also worked in the Walmart Deli department for several years. She was known for her seamstress abilities. She enjoyed all sports and loved to follow her grandchildren around to their events. Genevieve especially loved spending time with her family.

Genevieve 'Geneva' Wendler, age 91

Larned – Raymond Kent Frick, 69, passed away April 10, 2023 in Topeka, Kansas.

He was born July 30, 1953 in Larned, the son of Raymond George and Alma Mae Debes Frick.

A lifetime area resident he was a farmer-rancher and a member of Larned United Methodist Church. He attended Zook Consolidated School until the 6th grade and graduated from Larned High School in 1971. He was a member of Garfield Lions Club and Garfield COOP Board. He was one of the first members of the Pawnee County Fair Board and was instrumental in the construction of the fair buildings. Kent was a 4-H supporter, member and project leader of the Zook Zippers 4-H club. He enjoyed helping with livestock sales, shooting sports and the bucket calf project. He was a Pheasants Forever committee member and instructed hunter’s safety courses. Kent was a lifetime hunter and traveled to various states to hunt deer, elk, antelope, and bear. He had a passion for the land and farming which he shared with his children and grandchildren. Kent loved attending his kid’s and grandchildren’s sporting events and livestock shows.

On May 11, 1974 he married Karen Kay Fyler at Larned; she survives.

Other survivors include: four children, Dr. Christina Frick (Brent Maxwell), their children, Grayson, Kole and Addison Maxwell, Larned, Melissa (Matt) Brossard, their children, Harley and Carter Brossard, Topeka, Kurtis (Holly) Frick, their children, Chayse, Kaden and Paisley Frick, Larned, and Audra (Dustin) Geiger, their children, Natalie and Mason Geiger, Topeka; sister, Kim (Terry) Fairchild, Overland Park.

Funeral service will be 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, April 19, 2023 at Larned United Methodist Church with Pastor Tricia North presiding. Visitation will be 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, April 18, 2023 at Beckwith Mortuary, Larned, with family present from 6-8 p.m. Burial will be in the Larned Cemetery.

Raymond Frick, age 69

Arlene Marie Karlin, 88, passed away on April 12, 2023, at Ellinwood District Hospital, Ellinwood, Kan. She was born on December 14, 1934, in Pfeifer, Kan., to Joseph and Veronica (Befort) Dome. On November 13, 1954, she was married to Leroy Karlin in Pfeifer, Kan. He passed on April 11, 2001.

A resident of Great Bend since 1959 coming from Ellis County, Arlene was a homemaker. She was a member of the Prince of Peace Parish, Altar Society, and Daughters of Isabella. Arlene volunteered with the Church bringing communion to those home bound, adoration chapel, prayer, and pro-life advocacy. She also volunteered with Birth Right, at CKMC and later St. Rose Pavillion at the gift shop, as well as a Girl Scout Leader. Arlene was dedicated to her family and faith throughout her life.

Survivors include two sons, Jerry (Judy) Karlin of Shawnee, Kan., and Joe (Amy) Karlin of Lenexa, Kan.; three daughters, Mary (Mel) Waite of Ellinwood, Kan., Susan (Rodney) Broeckelman of Mankato, Kan, and Jean (Joe) Scarfino of St. Louis, Mo.; twenty-two grandchildren; eighteen great-grandchildren with one on the way; and three sisters, Virginia Kisner, Shirley Gregory and Fran Hunter. She is preceded in death by her husband; her parents; a grandson, Thomas Joseph Karlin; two brothers, Joseph and Vernon Dome; and a sister, Ruby Karlin.

Leonella “Nelli” Ann Gilkey, 72 of Garfield, KS, passed away Saturday, April 8, 2023 at Soldier, KS. She was born July 9, 1950 in Hoisington, KS, the daughter of Leo C. and Felicitas (Ohnmacht) Meyeres. She graduated high school from Mt. Saint Scholastica in Atchison, KS.

Nelli married David Eugene Gilkey in Miami, OK. He preceded her in death just a short time ago on February 1, 2022.

Nelli was a Garfield, KS resident for 48 years. After returning from high school, Nelli worked as a Nurse’s Aide at the hospital in Great Bend, KS. While raising their 5 children, Nelli was a full-time homemaker. Once the kids left the nest, she worked as a Paraprofessional at some of the local schools. She later became employed at the Larned State Hospital as a Mental Health Aide, then promoted to Administrative Assistant. Years ago, Nelli was a member of EHU with many of her friends around Garfield, a magnificent Girl Scout Troop leader, an amazing seamstress, most known for volunteering to make (by hand) numerous banners for her kids’ school gymnasium, a stellar party planner for her family gatherings, a loving wife, a nurturing mother, a proud grandma, and a good friend to many. Some of her most favorite activities were socializing at the casino, fishing, hunting, and country cruising with her husband and their dog, Lucky, and supporting all her grandkids at their sporting and academic events.

She is preceded in death by her husband, David, sister, Karen Yeager, infant brother, Joseph Meyeres, and infant grandson, Ryder Nicol.

Nelli is survived by five children: Tammy Nickless (Jon) of Champion, NE, Stephannie Nicol (Mitchell) of Soldier, KS, David Gilkey (Katie) of Hutchinson, KS, Ammie Schibler (Robert) of Gruver, TX, and Adam Gilkey (Amy) of McPherson, KS; 3 sisters: LaRae Connor of Lee’s Summit, MO, Mary Balderston of Beaver, KS, and Barbara Urban (Tom) of Hoisington, KS; 1 brother: Frances Leon “Joe” Meyeres (Monica) of Olathe, KS; 16 grandchildren: Taylar, Ragan, Colby, and Paige Nickless, Reilly, Carson, and Hayden Stumpff and Brodey and Emersyn Nicol, Logan and Rhett Gilkey, Dylaney and Jefferson Weaver and Quincy Schibler, Finn and Addison Gilkey; and 2 step-grandchildren, Montana Nicol and Mikyla Hill (Caleb). Although Nelli fought cancer for the past 8 months, she died of a broken heart, missing her beloved husband.

Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 22, 2023 at Beckwith Mortuary, 916 Main Street, Larned, KS 67550. Private family inurnment will follow at St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery, Beaver, KS. The family will greet friends on

Carl Eugene Maddy, 88, passed away on Dec. 31, 2022, following the passing of his wife, Dolores Maxine (Bauer) Maddy, 87, on July 9, 2022, both at Chisolm Place Assisted Living in Wichita. They were joined in union on Aug. 28, 1955, in Dighton, and were blessed with four children, Steven (Clarissa) Maddy of Wichita, Terri Kennard of Wichita, Michael Maddy of Larned, and Lynette Gallentine, whom preceded them in death, plus many other family members.

A celebration of life for the couple will be held at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, April 22, 2023, at Golden Belt Memorial Park, with Pastor Matt Wimmer presiding. Honors for Carl will be conducted by both the Army National Guard and the Great Bend Fire Department. Memorials have been designated in Dolores’ name to the Central Baptist Church and in Carl’s name to the Good Shepherd Hospice, all in care of Bryant Funeral Home.

Carl Maddy, age 88

Ramona Joy Brozek, 89, La Crosse, Kansas, passed away Tuesday, April 11, 2023, at Aster Estates, Great Bend, Kansas.

Ramona was born March 25, 1934, in rural Bison, Kansas, the daughter of Joe and Bertha (Ochs) Moore. She was a lifelong resident of Rush County, Kansas. A 1952 graduate of La Crosse High School, La Crosse, Kansas, she was a secretary for Golden Belt Telephone Association, Rush Center, Kansas, for 32 years before her retirement.

She was a member of the United Methodist Church, and the United Methodist Women (UMW), both of La Crosse, Kansas.

On October 8, 1955, she married Wendell Brozek at the EUB Church, La Crosse, Kansas.

Survivors include: her husband, Wendell Brozek, La Crosse, Kansas; one son, Dr. Jeff Brozek (Rhonda), Great Bend, Kansas; one daughter, Jo Ellen Schaffstall, Milton, Florida; three grandchildren, Jason Brozek (Stephanie), Mission, Kansas, Dr. Jessica Brozek, Newton, Kansas, and Caitlin Schaffstall (Matt Harper), Pensacola, Florida; and two sisters, Darletha Moore, Wichita, Kansas, and Karen Been, Rogers, Arkansas.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Warren Moore; and one sister, E. Josephine Williams.

Visitation will be Thursday, April 13, 2023, from 4:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. at the Janousek Funeral Home, La Crosse, Kansas, with the family receiving friends from 6:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M.

Ramona Brozek, age 89

Lisa Ann Wondra, 54, died April 11, 2023, at Clara Barton Hospital, Hoisington, Kansas. She was born June 22, 1968, in Hoisington, the daughter of Eugene and Mary Jo (Ohnmacht) Maneth. Lisa graduated from Otis-Bison High School in 1986. She then received her associate degree from Barton County Community College and her bachelor’s degree from St. Mary of the Plains in Dodge City. She was working towards her master’s degree with Fort Hays State College but had to quit due to her health.

On June 1, 1991, she married Gary L. Wondra at St. Ann Catholic Church in Olmitz, Kansas.

A lifetime resident of Olmitz, Lisa worked as an elementary teacher and librarian, starting in Timken and Albert and finally working for USD 403 Otis-Bison. She was a member of St. Ann’s Catholic Church of Olmitz, Kansas, where she was a member of the Altar Society and had sung in the church choir. Lisa was also a longtime member of the Daughters of Isabella Circle 744. Lisa fought her illness with such grace, she was always optimistic. Her vitality and love was evident in her care of others, never one to linger on her own problems, she was always concerned for others and their wellbeing. She always asked about your care and concerns and made sure you were well fed with her good cooking when visiting. She will be loved and missed by many.

She is survived by her husband of 31 years, Gary L. Wondra of the home; and two children, Kristin Colson and husband Jesse of Dighton, and Kenton Wondra of Olmitz; her parents, Eugene “Gene” and Mary Jo Maneth of Olmitz; three brothers, LeRoy Maneth and wife Shirley of Andover, her twin brother, Dale Maneth and wife Christy of Olmitz, and Michael Maneth and wife Brandy of Albert; a mother-in-law, Rose Ann Wondra of Hoisington, three sisters-in-law, Lois Hanchett and husband Trey of Salina, Cheryl Klepper and husband Tony of Ellinwood, and Bernetta Burkhart and husband Tom of Hutchinson; and many beloved aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Visitation will be 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, with family to greet friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Vigil and Rosary will begin at 7 p.m., all at the funeral home.

In loving memory of my wife and our mother, Elberta Rose Anschutz, 83, who passed away on April 10, 2023. She was the devoted wife of Roland Wayne Anschutz and loving mother of Martin Anschutz (Sandy) of Salina, KS, Richard Anschutz of Bushton, KS, Corwin Anschutz (Kitrina) of Little Elm, TX, and Laura Schwartz (Cody) of Clay Center KS. Elberta was born on August 28, 1939, and was predeceased by her parents, Carrel and Ruth (Miller) Carpenter, her sisters Zelda Ann Zabel and Carol June Carpenter. She left behind sisters, Margaret Dutcher, Dorie Hammond, and Bobbie Blaskey, and one brother, Larry Carpenter. Grandchildren left behind were Austin Anschutz, Brandon Loader, Brett Loader, Keaton Anschutz, Charlotte Anschutz, Cooper Schwartz, and Layton Schwartz. One Great Grandchild left behind was Carter Anschutz, and several nieces and nephews.

My wife and their mother, Elberta, was a loving, kind, and giving person who always put the needs of her family before her own. She was a strong woman known for her faith and instilled the importance of family, hard work, and doing what is right. She faced every challenge in her life with courage and dignity and was a source of inspiration to us all.

You will always be in our hearts, and we will never forget you. We love you so much. Rest in peace.

Elberta Anschutz, age 83

Rocky L. Yoder, 68, of Russell, Kansas, passed away Monday, March 6, 2023 at the Hays Medical Center in Hays, Kansas.

Rocky was born November 17, 1954 in Cheyenne Wells, Colorado . He was one of five children born to Wilbur and Phyllis (Bedker) Yoder. At the age of 12 he started working in construction with his father. At 16, he worked at Jerrys Texaco Station changing tires and assisting with the pumps. In high school he became interested in Rodeo bull riding. He graduated from Littleton High School. He then attended two years at Sterling College before he started working at the Arabian Horse Registry in Illinois. Later he returned to college and got a Degree in Agriculture Science. He moved to Russell, Kansas in 2004.

Rocky was united in marriage to Brenda Schmidtberger on October 1, 2011 in Hays, Kansas. They made their home in Russell.

Rocky worked at the Land O Lakes where he did the rations for cattle feed. He was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Russell and St. Fidelis Catholic Church in Victoria, Kansas. He was known for his artistic wood carvings and had Art shows at the Deines Cultural Center and the 4-H Building in Russell.

Rocky’s surviving family include his wife of 11 years, Brenda of the home; two brothers, Larry Yoder (Karen) of Hugoton, Kansas and Randy Yoder (Shelley) of Wauneta, Nebraska; sister, Nancy Noble (Steve) of Lincoln, Nebraska; and many nieces and nephews and friends.

Rocky was preceded in death by his parents and sister Melody Burr.

Celebration of Rocky’s Life will be held at 11:00 AM, Friday, April 21, 2023 at St. John Lutheran Church of Russell. Cremation has taken place. Condolences may be sent to Pohlman-Varner-Peeler Mortuary, who is in charge of these arrangements.

He was known for his artistic wood carvings and had Art shows at the Deines Cultural Center and the 4-H Building in Russell.Rocky’s surviving family include his wife of 11 years, Brenda of the home; two brothers, Larry Yoder (Karen) of Hugoton, Kansas and Randy Yoder (Shelley) of Wauneta, Nebraska; sister, Nancy Noble (Steve) of Lincoln, Nebraska; and many nieces and nephews and friends.Rocky was preceded in death by his parents and sister Melody Burr.Celebration of Rocky’s Life will be held at 11:00 AM, Friday, April 21, 2023 at St. John Lutheran Church of Russell. On Monday, April 10th, 2023, Lewis Max McClay passed away peacefully 
at the age of 88. Max was preceded in death by his wife Farrell 
(Keas).&nbsp; Max and Farrell were married for 62 years. Max McClay is 
survived by his four daughters Renie McClay (Mike Beasley), Kristy 
McClay, Teri Rounsaville (George), and Merri Kruzan (Phil).&nbsp; He is also 
survived by grandchildren Nicholas Gauss (Rylan Deer), Philip Kruzan Jr.&nbsp; (Ellen), and Tyler Kruzan.&nbsp; Additionally, he was a very proud 
great-grandfather to Parker Max Kruzan and loved his nieces and nephews.

Moreover, Max was preceded in death by his sisters Nanette McDonald 
Morel, Maurine (Renie) Francke, and Naomi Hartnett.&nbsp;&nbsp; He also was 
preceded in death by his parents Velda McClay Morin, father Thyril 
McClay, stepfather Alvin Morin.

Max was born to Thyril and Velda McClay in Plainville, Kansas, on July
 18, 1934.&nbsp; Max and Farrell went to high school together.&nbsp; Max was very 
involved in school sports, golf and basketball being his favorites. 
After graduation, he attended business school at Brown Mackie College in
 Salina, Kansas.

Max worked a variety of jobs learning great life skills.&nbsp; After 
leaving his job at Globe Oil he found his passion in insurance sales and
 management at Federated Insurance.&nbsp; &nbsp;Here he was promoted and moved to 
multiple locations,&nbsp; from Great Bend, Kansas, to Springfield, Missouri, 
to West Des Moines, Iowa and back to Springfield, Missouri.&nbsp; Federated 
became his second family. Max loved working with customers, and he also 
took great pleasure in working with his coworkers and the teams he 
managed. He retired at 60 and “wanted to travel while he could still
 carry his luggage.”

Wherever they moved, Max and Farrell always felt that Springfield was
 their home.&nbsp; This location was perfect for Max’s many hobbies, 
including golfing, traveling, hunting, fishing, camping and boating. He 
also enjoyed woodworking. When he wasn’t crafting a piece of furniture 
for one of his kids and grandkids, he was probably working on wood 
working projects for Brentwood Christian Church. Max also served on this
 organization’s leadership board.&nbsp; He and Farrell loved this religious 
community and were instrumental in its growth, including serving on the 
minister selection committee. He was also a member of Lion’s Club.

From Max’s family:&nbsp; Our Dad and Papa had an amazing heart.&nbsp; He cared 
for our mother for many years until her Alzheimer’s advanced.&nbsp;&nbsp; The day 
we moved mom to nursing care it broke his heart. Then it broke 
again the day she passed in 2016. We know he is happy to be reunited 
with his sweetie.&nbsp;&nbsp; He demonstrated his love for his daughters and 
grandkids on a regular basis.&nbsp; He would share new pictures and stories 
daily with anyone who would listen.

We thank the staff at Fremont Assisted Living for their amazing care.
 He adopted many new grandkids and daughters there among the employees, 
as they loved him dearly.&nbsp; He knew he had the greatest team of 
healthcare workers ever!!

Angel Daniel Leza, 21, passed away on April 11, 2023, at his home in Great Bend, Kan. He was born on August 4, 2001, in Las Cruces, N.M., to Daniel (Anna) Reyes and Amanda Apadoca.

There will be no visitation as cremation has taken place. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.

Leonella “Nelli” Ann Gilkey, 72 of Garfield, KS, passed away 
Saturday, April 8, 2023, at Soldier, KS. She was born July 9, 1950, in 
Hoisington, KS, the daughter of Leo C. and Felicitas (Ohnmacht) Meyeres.
 She graduated high school from Mt. Saint Scholastica in Atchison, KS.

Nelli was a Garfield, KS resident for 48 years. After returning from 
high school, Nelli worked as a Nurse’s Aide at the hospital in Great 
Bend, KS. While raising their 5 children, Nelli was a full-time 
homemaker. Once the kids left the nest, she worked as a Paraprofessional
 at some of the local schools. She later became employed at the Larned 
State Hospital as a Mental Health Aide, then promoted to Administrative 
Assistant. Years ago, Nelli was a member of EHU with many of her friends
 around Garfield, a magnificent Girl Scout Troop leader, an amazing 
seamstress, most known for volunteering to make (by hand) numerous 
banners for her kids’ school gymnasium, a stellar party planner for her 
family gatherings, a loving wife, a nurturing mother, a proud grandma, 
and a good friend to many. Some of her most favorite activities were 
socializing at the casino, fishing, hunting, and country cruising with 
her husband and their dog, Lucky, and supporting all her grandkids at 
their sporting and academic events.

She is preceded in death by her husband, David, sister, Karen Yeager,
 infant brother, Joseph Meyeres, and infant grandson, Ryder Nicol.

Nelli is survived by five children: Tammy Nickless (Jon) of Champion,
 NE, Stephannie Nicol (Mitchell) of Soldier, KS, David Gilkey (Katie) of
 Hutchinson, KS, Ammie Schibler (Robert) of Gruver, TX, and Adam Gilkey 
(Amy) of McPherson, KS; 3 sisters: LaRae Connor of Lee’s Summit, MO, 
Mary Balderston of Beaver, KS, and Barbara Urban (Tom) of Hoisington, 
KS; 1 brother: Frances Leon “Joe” Meyeres (Monica) of Olathe, KS; 16 
grandchildren: Taylar, Ragan, Colby, and Paige Nickless, Reilly, Carson,
 and Hayden Stumpff and Brodey and Emersyn Nicol, Logan and Rhett 
Gilkey, Dylaney and Jefferson Weaver and Quincy Schibler, Finn and 
Addison Gilkey; and 2 step-grandchildren, Montana Nicol and Mikyla Hill 
(Caleb). Although Nelli fought cancer for the past 8 months, she died of
 a broken heart, missing her beloved husband.

Adolph Hennings Highberg Jr., 76, died March 14, 2023, at Kansas 
Soldiers Home in Fort Dodge.&nbsp; He was born on December 18, 1946, at 
Palacios, Texas, the son of Aldolph and Ninette (Simmons) Highberg Sr.

Adolph spent his childhood in Okeechobee, Florida.&nbsp; He graduated from
 Okeechobee High School.&nbsp; On October 30, 1970, Adolph enlisted in the 
United States Army, serving in Vietnam from September of 1971 to August 
of 1972.&nbsp; He then transferred to the Army Reserves.&nbsp; After his honorable
 discharge in October of 1973, Adolph worked as a machinist for 
Wal-Mart. He then attended Lamar University in Beaumont, Texas. On June 
9, 1977, he married Robbie Lou Schaal. In August of 2019, he moved to 
the Kansas Soldiers Home at Fort Dodge.&nbsp; He enjoyed making people laugh 
and playing Santa and Mrs. Claus with his wife during the Christmas 
season.

Adolph is survived by a daughter, Carrie Carl (Larry) of Orange, 
Texas; son, Adolph Highberg Jr. of Great Bend; seven grandchildren; 
eight great grandchildren; two brothers, Allen and John Highberg; and 
two sisters, Lorene and Vivian Highberg.&nbsp; He is preceded in death by his
 parents, his wife, Robbie; daughter, Victoria&nbsp; “Vicki” Highberg; six 
grandchildren; and two brothers, Eddy and Nels Highberg.

Beau Matthew Mettlen, 18, passed away April 8, 2023. He was born on June 21, 2004, to Jeff and Michelle (Baker) Mettlen.

Beau grew up in Colby and was a current Great Bend resident.&nbsp; He was attending Barton Community College, on course to graduate in May 2023, with an associate degree in Agriculture Crop Protection. He was preparing to serve an internship with Performance Crop Research in Great Bend.

Never having idle hands and having a servant’s heart, Beau was always ready to help his family, friends, and community, operating his own mowing business at an early age, helping his grandpa work cattle and farm, and serving on the color guard for Memorial Day at the Lucas Cemetery. He enjoyed “all things outdoors”; including construction, fishing, hunting, kayaking, and playing baseball.

Survivors include, his parents, Jeff and Michelle Mettlen of Great Bend; two sisters, Makenna Park and husband Tyler of Colby and Jayln Mettlen of Hutchinson; his grandparents, Richard and Kay Mettlen of Lucas and Bob and Doneida Baker of Great Bend; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles, great aunts and great uncles, including, great aunt, Joan Dunlap of Lucas.

Memorial services will be held Tuesday, April 11, 2023, at 11 a.m., at the Lucas United Methodist Church, 322 N Main St., Lucas, with Pastor Les Rye presiding. Inurnment will be in the Lucas Cemetery following the service.

Danny Louis Ramey, 75, of Lyons, Kansas, passed away March 31, 2023, at his home. He was born December 16, 1947, in Hutchinson, Kansas, the son of Louis Dale and Bessie Elnora Davidson Ramey. 

Danny has resided in Lyons since 2016, formerly of Kinsley, Kansas. He attended Kinsley High School. Danny was a machinist. He enjoyed woodworking and fixing up homes. 

Danny is survived by his son, Danny L.D. Ramey and wife Laura of Emporia, KS; daughter, Michele Seeman and husband Steve of Larned, KS; brother, David Santner and wife Beth of Las Cruces, NM; sister, Debra Blevins and husband James of Louis, KS; five grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. 

He is preceded in death by his parents; son, Dennis Wayne Ramey; daughter, Lorie Lee Ramey; brother, Ronald Santner; and niece, Cheri Green.

Pamela F. “Pam” Goforth, 74, of Lyons, Kansas, passed away March 31, 2023, at Hospital District #1 of Rice County, Lyons. She was born March 4, 1949, in Scottsbluff, Nebraska, the daughter of Loyal and Ilene Abbott French. Pam has resided in Lyons for the past 10 years, formerly of Bushton, Kansas. 

She graduated from Bountiful High School, Bountiful, Utah with the class of 1967. She was a school bus driver for many years and clerk at the G-Stop in Geneseo, Kansas. 

Pam was a member of the Saint Paul’s United Church of Christ, Holyrood. She enjoyed quilting and was an avid domino and bingo player. On August 31, 1971, Pam was united in marriage with G. Douglas Goforth in Bountiful, Utah. He preceded her in death on June 18, 2007. She is also preceded in death by her parents; son, Doug Goforth; daughter, April Phillips; brother, John French; and sister, Teri French.

Erskine; and great-grandchildren, Derek, Quinton, Liam, Aurora, Lincoln, and Ryan.

She was born March 4, 1949, in Scottsbluff, Nebraska, the daughter of Loyal and Ilene Abbott French. Pam has resided in Lyons for the past 10 years, formerly of Bushton, Kansas. She graduated from Bountiful High School, Bountiful, Utah with the class of 1967. She was a school bus driver for many years and clerk at the G-Stop in Geneseo, Kansas. Pam was a member of the Saint Paul’s United Church of Christ, Holyrood. She enjoyed quilting and was an avid domino and bingo player. On August 31, 1971, Pam was united in marriage with G. Douglas Goforth in Bountiful, Utah. He preceded her in death on June 18, 2007. She is also preceded in death by her parents; son, Doug Goforth; daughter, April Phillips; brother, John French; and sister, Teri French. Ruth Eleanor (Vogel) Liston, 94, passed away on March 30, 2023, at Weston Country Hospital, New Castle, Wyo. She was born on April 26, 1928, in Lincoln, Nebraska, to Charles and Alma (English) Vogel, and was raised on a homestead ranch south of New Castle, Wyo. On May 16, 1950, she was united in holy matrimony to John L. Liston in Topeka, Kan. He passed on June 26, 2006.

A Great Bend resident for 61 years prior to moving to New Castle, Wyo., in 2011, Ruth worked for the USD 428 Central Kitchen for 11 years as well as a homemaker. She was a member of the Prince of Peace Parish at St. Rose in Great Bend, Altar Society, and Church of Corpus Christi in New Castle. Ruth’s life was her family and she cherished time with them.

Survivors include two sons, John C. Liston of New Castle, Wyo., and Matthew P. Liston (Kim) of Larned, Kan.; three daughters, Mary Ellen Liston of Reseda, Calif., Kathleen M. McGahee (Michael) of Woodstock, Ga., and Patricia Neybert (Ken) of Ellijay, Ga.; seven grandchildren, Sean McGahee, Jennifer McGahee, Anna Wilbanks, Daniel Liston, Richard Liston, Sarah Betzen, and Patrick Liston; seven great-grandchildren; and daughter-in-law, Janet Liston-Polley. She is preceded in death by her husband; a son, Kevin M. Liston; her parents; and son-in-law, Frank McDonald.

Charlotte Ann (Miller) Burton, age 79, of Marion, Kansas, passed away on March 28, 2023.

Charlotte was born on March 4, 1944 to LeRoy and Roberta (Happy) Miller in Windom, Kansas. 

LeRoy died in 1958 from Hodgkin’s Lymphoma and Roberta remarried Cecil Slifer in 1960. After Cecil and Roberta’s marriage, they moved to Marion, Kansas with Charlotte.

A couple years later, Charlotte graduated from Marion High School in 1962 and moved to McPherson, Kansas for job opportunities.

Charlotte welcomed three daughters during her first marriage to Robert (Bob) Scheideman. Charlotte and Bob welcomed their first daughter, Julie Scheideman on November 15, 1964. Robin Scheideman was born a few years later on June 17, 1969. Their youngest daughter, Patsy Kline was born on December 8, 1973.

On January 23, 1976, Charlotte remarried the love of her life, William (Bill) Burton. Charlotte and Bill met while working together at the La Crosse Furniture Factory in La Crosse, Kansas. Shortly after their marriage, they moved to Marion, Kansas. In the summer of 1982, Charlotte and Bill moved to Scio, Ohio to begin their careers of owning and operating a dairy farm.

When they arrived in Scio, Ohio, Charlotte and Bill made the decision to open their home for children in the foster care system. Charlotte wanted to provide a safe, loving, and nurturing home for any child in need. In 1988, Charlotte and Bill adopted their youngest children, Carol and Bobby Burton.

While living on the dairy farm, Charlotte enjoyed making fresh cheese and butter from the cream of the cows. Some of her other hobbies included leather crafting, oil painting, flower arrangements, and cake decorating.

In 1990, Charlotte and Bill made the decision to leave the dairy farm and move back to Marion, Kansas. The two continued to foster children upon arriving in Kansas. 

During this time, Charlotte worked for Kit Mobile Homes until 1992. After leaving Kit Mobile Homes, Charlotte continued her working career at Norcraft Cabinets in Newton, Kansas. Charlotte worked for Norcraft for twenty-eight years, where she eventually retired in 2020. Charlotte took passion in her work and gained many strong relationships with her coworkers. To Charlotte, these were not just her coworkers, but also her family.

In her spare time, Charlotte enjoyed spending time with friends and family, making homemade soap, canning vegetables, planting flowers, collecting cookbooks, collecting Christmas villages, and going on drives with Bill.

Charlotte was loving, nurturing, supportive, and caring to all.

Charlotte is preceded in death by LeRoy Miller (father), Roberta (Happy) Slifer (mother), Cecil Slifer (stepfather), and Robin Scheideman (daughter).

Charlotte is survived by William (Bill) Burton (husband), Julie Scheideman (daughter), Patsy and Mike Kline (daughter and son-in-law), Carol Benavidez (daughter), Bobby and Crystal Burton (son and daughter-in-law), stepchildren Kim and Artie Herrman, Randy and Cindy Burton, and Rusty and Tonya Burton. Many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and foster children also survive Charlotte.

Frank Eugene Lee was born July 23, 1972, to Donald and Betty (Perrin) 
Lee in Great Bend, Ks and passed away April 3, 2023, in Smith Center, Ks.
 He graduated from Larned High School in 1990. He met and later married 
Jennifer Park in Hays, Ks on November 20, 1997. To this union were born 
three children; Andrea, Brendan, and Addisyn. Frank worked as a CNA and 
was a sales associate.&nbsp;

He enjoyed coaching his girls 
in youth softball over the years. He followed his son in wrestling and 
football. Frank enjoyed watching sports on TV with his kids when they 
were grown.

Frank is survived by his three children, 
Andrea Lee, Brendan Lee, Addisyn Lee, and their mother Jennifer Lee; a 
sister Michelle Lee. He is preceded in death by his father, Donald Lee, 
and his mother, Betty Lee.

Roy Lee McFrederick, 74, passed away on March 29, 2023, at University of Kansas Health Systems – Great Bend Campus, Great Bend, Kan. He was born on March 1, 1949, in Wichita, Kan., to Roy Lewis and Josephine Mary (Chan) McFrederick.

An area resident of Ellinwood and Great Bend coming from Wichita, Roy worked as a mechanical engineer. He was a veteran of the United States Army, serving during the Vietnam War. Roy was a member of Prince of Peace Parish – St. Rose of Lima Church and VFW, and enjoyed watching T.V., collecting DVDs, and especially loved his dogs.

Survivors include a son, Adrien McFrederick of Hume, Mo.; three sisters, Ruth McFredrick of St. John, Kan., Sr. Amy McFrederick of South Bend, Ind., and Nita (Randy) Trantham of Leeds, Ala.; nieces and nephews, John, Stephanie, Leslie, Terri, Billy, Chaz, Audrey, Michael, Brigette, and Mark. He is preceded in death by his parents; brother, William “Bill” McFrederick; and infant sisters, Mary Evangeline and Rita Jane.

The Rev. Robert M. Ziegler, 88 years old, longtime Pastor for Trinity 
Lutheran Church, was called to his heavenly home following the early 
service on Sunday, April 2, 2023. 
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am on Tuesday, April 11, 2023, at 
the Trinity Lutheran Church, 603 N. Eighth St, Atchison, KS. Graveside
 services and burial will be held at 3:30 pm Tuesday, at the Vesta 
Cemetery, Vesta, NE. The family will receive friends on Monday, April 
10th, 2023, starting at 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm at the Trinity Lutheran 
School Gymnasium. Pastor Ziegler will lie in state at the church one 
hour prior to services on Tuesday.

Robert M. Ziegler was born on April 14, 1934, in Vesta, NE the son of 
Robert M. and Esther J. (Jobst) Ziegler. He went to grade school and 
high school in Vesta, NE. He was called by the Lord to enter the 
Ministry and attended St. John’s Lutheran Academy and College, Winfield,
 KS. He then attended Concordia Seminary in St. Louis, MO. He completed
 his work at the seminary and served his vicarage at Our Savior’s 
Lutheran Church in Mankato, Minnesota. He was ordained on July 19, 1959
 and served at Zion Lutheran Church, Claflin, KS for ten years. He 
received and accepted a call to Trinity Lutheran Church, Atchison and 
was installed as Pastor on September 14, 1969. During this period of 
time he had served as vacancy pastor in seven different congregations; 
Russell, Ellinwood, Hoisington, Lyons, Holyrood, Nortonville, and 
Wathena, KS. He had served as Circuit Counselor for the Great Bend and 
Atchison Circuits and served several years as a member of the Kansas 
District Board of Directors LCMS. Pastor Ziegler had also worked as a 
chaplain at Valley Hope Treatment Center, Atchison KS from 1971-1988. 
Pastor Ziegler enjoyed attending musical programs, a Christmas Carol, 
the KC Renaissance Festival, any kind of lecture, all things Husker, and
 was an avid reader and learner. 
He was married to Esther Johnson on October 18, 1959, in Claflin, KS. 
Esther preceded him in death on June 25th, 2000. After many years Pastor
 Ziegler was married to Charlotte (Pinnt) Teuscher on April 17, 2020. 
They had been college classmates at St. John’s College and found each 
other at a class reunion. Charlotte survives of the home.

Ministry and attended St. John’s Lutheran Academy and College, Winfield,
 KS. He then attended Concordia Seminary in St. Louis, MO. He completed
 his work at the seminary and served his vicarage at Our Savior’s 
Lutheran Church in Mankato, Minnesota. He was ordained on July 19, 1959
 and served at Zion Lutheran Church, Claflin, KS for ten years. He 
received and accepted a call to Trinity Lutheran Church, Atchison and 
was installed as Pastor on September 14, 1969. During this period of 
time he had served as vacancy pastor in seven different congregations; 
Russell, Ellinwood, Hoisington, Lyons, Holyrood, Nortonville, and 
Wathena, KS. He had served as Circuit Counselor for the Great Bend and 
Atchison Circuits and served several years as a member of the Kansas 
District Board of Directors LCMS. Pastor Ziegler had also worked as a 
chaplain at Valley Hope Treatment Center, Atchison KS from 1971-1988. 
Pastor Ziegler enjoyed attending musical programs, a Christmas Carol, 
the KC Renaissance Festival, any kind of lecture, all things Husker, and
 was an avid reader and learner. 
He was married to Esther Johnson on October 18, 1959, in Claflin, KS. 
Esther preceded him in death on June 25th, 2000. After many years Pastor
 Ziegler was married to Charlotte (Pinnt) Teuscher on April 17, 2020. 
They had been college classmates at St. John’s College and found each 
other at a class reunion. Charlotte survives of the home. Additional 
survivors include a son Andrew Ziegler, Cleveland OH, two daughters Anne
 (Preston) Compton, Elgin, SC, and Allison (Ron) Arends, Melvin, IL 
son-in-law Rick Williams, Cleveland, OH, two sisters Nancy Nelson, 
Marcus, IA and Virginia Thomas, Beatrice, NE, seven grandchildren and 
one great grandchild, five step children, Terri McLean, Dallas, TX, Tom 
Teuscher, Springfield, MO, Tracy Lawson, Eldorado, KS, Tamara Morin, 
Leawood, KS, and Ted Teuscher, Lenexa, KS, fourteen step grandchildren, 
thirty three step great grandchildren and one step great great 
grandchild, several nieces, nephews, and cousins. His parents, wife 
Esther, daughter Angela J. Williams, grandson Trent Arends, brother 
Richard Ziegler, and brother-in-law Roger Nelson, preceded him in death.&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;

The Rev. Robert M. Ziegler, age 88

Mark Alan Rogers, 58, passed away March 29, 2023, in Great Bend. He 
was born March 23, 1965, in Lincoln, KS to Ralph Henry and Judy Ann 
(Meyer) Rogers.

Mark served his country in the U.S. Navy in the 
Persian Gulf during the Iran-Iraq conflict aboard the USS Guadalcanal. 
He was a Residence Life Coordinator at Barton County Community College, 
and a member of the St. John Lutheran Church in Lincoln.

Mark is 
survived by his mother, Judy Donley of Lincoln; sister Lori Soeken (Rob)
 of Great Bend; sister Joni Zink of Bushton; brother Greg Rogers of 
Shawnee; sister Lisa Feldkamp (Mark) of Lincoln; three nieces; six 
nephews; six great-nieces; nine great-nephews; and several aunts, 
uncles, and cousins. 

He was preceded in death by his father Ralph Rogers; brother-in-law Joseph Zink; stepfather Jim Donley; and nephew Jared Soeken.

 service: 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, April 4, 2023, at St. John Lutheran Church
 in Lincoln with burial following in the church cemetery.
