Charles Edward Disque, 98, died April 28, 2023, at River Bend Senior Living, Great Bend. He was born June 21, 1924, in Claflin, to Adam and Margaret (Radenberg) Disque.
Charles attended country school district #75 and then graduated from Claflin High School in 1943. He served during WWII in the U.S. Army Ordinance Alaska Defense. He was a farmer and a carpenter, farming and doing construction work in Ellsworth and Barton Counties.
Charles was a member of Claflin United Methodist Church, where he had served on the pastor-parish relations committee and was a church historian and delegate. He was also active in the Claflin Methodist Mens Club, the Masonic Lodge #331, the Claflin Housing Board, and the Barton County Historical Society, and was a former Cub Scout Leader and secretary for the Claflin CO-OP Board.
On Sept. 30, 1951, he married Verna Leona Ehly in Claflin. After 68 blessed years together, she died on July 29, 2019.
He is survived by two daughters, Janet Sellens and husband David of Olathe, and Corrine Clark and husband Jim of Hays; two grandchildren, Jaclyn and Derek; and great-granddaughter, Kiran; three brothers, Herman Disque of Stafford, Harvey Disque of Salina, and Walter Disque and wife Joyce of Claflin.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, four brothers, Martin, Clarence, Marlin, and Edgar Disque, and six sisters, Edna, Grace, and Velma Disque, Mabel Flickinger, Aline Howser, and Leona Welch.
Visitation will be 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday, and 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday with family to greet friends from 6 to 8 p.m., at the funeral home.
Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m., Thursday, May 4, 2023, at Claflin United Methodist Church, with Pastor Diana Webster presiding. Burial will follow in Claflin Cemetery.
