Marcella Mae (Hoffman) Flax, "Sally", 88 of Ellis. Kansas passed away April 24, 2023, at Trego County Lemke LTC in WaKeeney.
Sally was born on April 17,1935 in Odin, KS to Michael and Margaret (Feltis) Hoffman. She attended Great Bend High School and graduated in 1953. Sally met the love of her life, Paul Flax, at her cousin’s wedding. They were married on August 24, 1954, in Great Bend. The following August they welcomed a son, Jerome, and the following fall, a daughter, Julia. Having to move many times with the railroad, Sally and Paul always returned to Ellis, calling it home. They were married for 53 years before Paul's passing in 2007.
Sally was always ready to take a vacation or bus trip with an occasional stop at the casinos. Her travels allowed her to see much of the United States and some European Countries. She enjoyed morning coffee with the ladies, playing bingo, bridge or pinochle with family and friends. But one of her greatest joys was being with her grandchildren. She was a member of St Mary's Church and the D of I in Ellis.
She is preceded in death by her parents; husband Paul; Son, Jerome; sisters Mercedes Huslig (Arthur), Anna Koester (Joseph,) Dolores Schneweis (Bernard) and Sister Mary Lawrence.
She is survived by a daughter Julia Hillman, WaKeeney; six grandchildren, Angela Flax (Geoff Martin) Olathe; Dustin Mattheyer (Mara) Ellis; Audrey Bates (Noel) Ellis; Mathew Flax (Amanda Armstrong) Salina; Jessica Cooper (Bryan) Topeka; and Preston Mattheyer (Jamie) WaKeeney; fifteen great grandchildren and six great great grandchildren.
Services will be held Friday, April 28, 2023 at 11:00 AM at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Ellis, Kansas. Visitation will be from 9:30 AM to 10:30 AM at the church, with a rosary at 10:30.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the St. Mary's Cemetery Fund. Services in care of Keithley Funeral Chapel, Ellis, Kansas.
