Alberta Fay Douglas, age 86

Alberta Fay Douglas, 86, passed away April 28, 2023, in Great Bend. She was born March 9, 1937, at Bazine, KS, at the family farm home, to Henry J. & Elizabeth (Koch) Foos. She attended Bazine Grade School and graduated from Bazine High School in 1955.

After graduating she moved to Great Bend, KS, where she met and married Gaylon Clayton on April 7, 1957, at Bazine. Gaylon passed away on October 1, 1960, due to a car accident. They had one daughter, Charlotte (Clayton) Myers. She then married John “Max” Douglas on June 17, 1962. He passed away December 18, 2007.

Alberta worked at Schlumberger Well Services, Marlette Mobile Homes, McDonald Tank Company, Social and Rehabilitation Services, KETCH (Kansas Elks Training Center for the Handicapped), Saint Francis Community Services, Great Bend Municipal Court and was co-owner of the Kitchen Cupboard in Great Bend. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church and VFW Auxiliary. She was a Camp Fire Girls group leader and Camp Fire Director for Camp Chu-Wa-Ni for many years and dearly loved it. She loved to watch her KU Basketball games and the Kansas City Chiefs play football. Alberta especially enjoyed family dinners and get togethers. The family enjoyed her fried chicken, homemade ice cream and chocolate chip cookies.

Survivors include, her daughter, Charlotte (Clayton) Myers and husband Randy of Great Bend; a son, David Douglas and wife Connie of Cozad, Neb.; stepchildren, Debbie Gartner and husband Frank of Dublin, Calif. and Scott Douglas and wife Carla of Brentwood, Calif.; grandchildren, Nathan Myers and wife Brianna of Hays, Travis Myers of Great Bend, Denton Douglas and wife Sheena of Tecumseh, KS; step grandchildren, Alesha Gartner of Dublin, Calif. and her partner Jorge Barailar and Matthew Gartner of Sacramento, Calif.; great grandchildren, Bentley Douglas and Xander Myers; step great grandchildren, Brayden Barailar and Gavin Gartner; and many nieces and nephews. Surviving siblings are Clarence Foos and wife Ethel of Bazine; and sister in law, Enid Foos of Lincoln, Neb. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands, Gaylon Clayton and Max Douglas; her sister, Helen Schaben; and her brothers, Floyd Foos and Leonard Foos.

Visitation will be held from Noon to 8:00 p.m., Thursday, May 4, 2023, at Bryant Funeral Home, with family to receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, May 5, 2023, at First United Methodist Church in Great Bend, with Pastor Tim Bever presiding. Interment will be in Great Bend Cemetery. Memorials have been designated to the First United Methodist Church, in care of Bryant Funeral Home.
