Michael Eugene Estes, 77, passed away August 17, 2022 at Stafford County Hospital, Stafford.
He was born in Hominy, Oklahoma, the son of Arlie Calvin “Buck” and Dolores Irene Jaynes Estes.
A longtime area resident, he was a member of the First Christian Church in Great Bend, International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers: IBEW Local 304, Mack Flying Club, and a lifetime member of the National Benchrest Shooters Association. At six years old he was baptized at the First Christian Church, Great Bend, with his mom, dad, and sister, all on the same day. He graduated from Great Bend High School in 1963 and attended Kansas State University. Following his college graduation, he enlisted in the Army National Guard from 1966 to 1972 and attended training in Fort Campbell, Kentucky, home of the 101st Airborne. He was a Foreman for the City of St. John Electrical Department, then later worked for PAR Electric where he retired after 20+ years. In his spare time, he enjoyed flying model airplanes, benchrest shooting, model boats, fishing, and spending time with his family.
Survivors include: his daughter, Kalla (Mike Jr.) Miller, Stafford, and four grandchildren: Mason, Westen, Wyatt, and McKay; his friend, Carol Martin and their two dogs, Desirea and Luna Belle.
He was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Virena Walls, and brother-in-law, Tommy Walls.
Funeral service will be 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, August 24, 2022 at Beckwith Mortuary Chapel, Larned, with Pastor Wade Russell presiding. Visitation will be 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, August 23, 2022 at Beckwith Mortuary, Larned. Burial will be in Great Bend Cemetery.
