Darold Lee Bussard, 77, passed away May 24, 2024 at Diversicare of Larned. He was born Nov. 24, 1946, in Mulhall, Okla., the son of Thomas Vincent and Charlottie Verlen Dick Bussard. A lifetime area resident, he was retired from Dillons and the Pawnee County Courthouse.

He was of the Catholic faith and was a member of the American Legion and served in the United States Army.

On Nov. 26, 1966, he married Rebecca Edith Wren in Larned. She passed away on Jan. 6, 2018.

Survivors include: daughter, Sheila Converse, Larned; brother, Willis “Willy” and wife Susie Doggett, Mulhall, Okla.; sister, Carmen and husband Don Conard, Edinburg, Va., and two granddaughters, Savanna Converse and Jaci Converse, both of Larned, numerous nieces and nephew and his dog, JJ.

He was preceded in death by four brothers, Dean, Jerry, Max and his twin brother, Harold Bussard and his step mother, Lena Rae Long Bussard.

Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, May 30, 2024, at Beckwith Mortuary, Larned, with Pastor David Spare presiding. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Beckwith Mortuary. Burial will be in the Larned Cemetery, Larned, with military graveside rites.

James Custer “Jim” Gregory, III, 79, passed away May 14, 2024, in Great Bend, Kansas. He was born December 6, 1944, to James, Jr., and Carol Lee (Arney) Gregory in Bethany, Missouri.

During his childhood, Jim was a member of the Boy Scouts of America, and loved to be around his dad and his airplane. After graduation from Shawnee Mission North High School in 1962, he attended junior college in Kansas City, Kansas, and worked at the Municipal Airport part time in Kansas City, Missouri.

When the Vietnam War escalated, he enlisted in the United States Air Force a week after he married his high school sweetheart, Virginia Barbara Gray, in July 1966. After returning stateside from Vietnam, he was stationed in Sacramento, California, and Cheyenne, Wyoming. After his discharge, Jim and Barbara settled in the Kansas City area, where he worked for his father at American Industrial Tool Company.

Jim moved to the Great Bend area in the early 1990’s, where he was part owner with Chuck Carpenter of RWI. He was a founding Charter Member of the Kansas Sidewinders Motorcycle Club, and served on various executive committees, sharing with his loved ones the activities and rides that he would participate in. Jim loved his Harley Davidsons and going to Sturgis every year with members of the club, plus to meet up with his brother, Terry.

Survivors include brother, Terry (Debra) Gregory; sister, Vicki (Joe) Kerkvliet; nieces and nephews; and all of his brothers - both active and retired - from the Kansas Sidewinders Club. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Virginia Barbara Gregory; parents, James Jr. and Carol Gregory; paternal grandparents, James Sr. and Elsie Gregory; and maternal grandparents, Ray and Lola Arney.

Visitation will take place from noon to 8:00 p.m. Thursday, May 23, 2024, at Bryant Funeral Home. Thomas L. “Tom” Lytle, 81, passed away May 18, 2024, at Azria Health Great Bend, Great Bend, Kansas. He was born on March 13, 1943, to Harry &amp; Margaret (Moore) Lytle. On April 25, 1964, Tom married Shirley Hitschmann at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Great Bend, Kansas.

Tom, a lifetime resident of Great Bend, graduated from Great Bend High School in 1961 where he then proudly served in the Army Reserves from 1961 – 1971. He attended Wichita Barber College in 1963, working as a barber until 1969, when he purchased Lytle Roofing upon his father’s retirement. In 1975, following a workplace accident, he was forced to close the business. Tom later went on to own Keller Radiator for several years. He was particularly proud of his time at Bryant-Christian Funeral Home, where he and Don Gibson started the “pre-need program”. He ended his working career as a field appraiser for Barton County.

He was a member of Prince of Peace Parish, and enjoyed archery, hunting, and fishing. Tom especially enjoyed his grandchildren and never missed any of their activities including gymnastics, wrestling, softball, baseball, and football. His easy-going nature was like a magnet to children, especially nieces and nephews, and dogs were drawn to him. Tom cherished time spent with his family at their Woodland Park, Colorado, home near Turkey Rock Ranch, which he was a part of building from the ground up. Tom accepted an almost lifetime of pain and health issues following his accident, with grace and dignity.

Survivors include his wife, Shirley, of the home; one son, Evan Lytle and wife Kristi, of Great Bend; three grandchildren, Tori, Cody and Bryce Lytle; two brothers, Dick Lytle and wife Sue of Kansas City, Missouri, and John Lytle and wife Alison of LaCrosse; and two sisters, Alice Walter and Harriet Herzberg, both of Great Bend.

He is preceded in death by his parents; and brother-in-law, James Walter.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, May 22, 2024, at St. Patrick Catholic Church, Great Bend, with Father Aneesh Parappanattu and Father Ted Skalsky presiding. Katherine "Kate" Feist, 92, passed away at Ellinwood District Hospital on May 18, 2024. Born August 20th, 1931 in rural Ellinwood, KS Kate was the daughter of Peter Paul and Anna (Straub) Kimpler. 

She graduated from Claflin High School. Kate later married Frederick W. Feist on November 11, 1952 at St. Peter &amp; Paul Church north of Ellinwood. A lifetime Barton Co. resident she was an excellent cook and seamstress. Kate made much of her families clothing, gardened and canned much of their food in addition to being a mother to 7 children. 

Memberships include St. Joseph Catholic Church and Altar society, Ellinwood. She loved holidays, get togethers’ with family, and card games with friends.

Survivors include children Pete Feist, Raymore, MO, Greg (Sharon) Feist, Great Bend, KS, Phil (Donna) Feist, Gardner, KS, Joanie (Douglas) Panning, Ellinwood, KS, Donna Mason, Ellinwood, KS, Karen (Wayne) Habiger, Bushton, KS, Nancy (Craig) Schartz, Erie, CO; sisters, Bernetta Oberle and Mary Bate; 15 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren, and 14 step-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by husband, Frederick Feist; siblings, Victor and Romen, Esther and Florentine Oberle and half siblings Raymond and Helen Schultz; and son-in law, Dan Mason.

Linda Lea Rasek, 84, passed away May 12, 2024, at Hospice House of Reno County, Hutchinson, Kansas. She was born on Aprill 22, 1940, in La Junta, Colorado, to Frank and Thelma “Imogene” (Taylor) Rasek.

After graduating high school, Linda obtained her Bachelor’s degree. She took a lifetime career in teaching in Marion and Hutchinson school districts. In her free time, she loved to travel extensively and expanded her knowledge of the world.

Survivors include several cousins including Larry Rasek of Ft. Collins, Colorado, numerous students she taught, and abundance of friends she met through the years on her travels.

Linda Rasek, age 84

Linda Kay Graves, 75, passed away peacefully May 14, 2024, at Ellsworth County Medical Center, Ellsworth, Kan. She was born on September 11, 1948, in Denver, Colo, to Orie and Lois (Eller) Graves.

Linda, a long-time resident of Great Bend, had been an employee of the Department of Corrections, working in Larned, San Antonio, Wichita and most recently at the Ellsworth Correctional Facility in the greenhouse. With a well-rounded career life, she also enjoyed her time as a truck driver in the oilfield and bartending at the Derrick Inn in Ness City. Linda never passed up the opportunity to travel, especially to Mexico, and share time, memories and good food with family and close friends.

Survivors include her children; Travis Herrman (Kim) of McCook, Neb., Kimberly Becker (Dwayne) of Great Bend, and Aubrey Nuss (Todd) of Sterling, Kan.; sister, Mary Jackson of Great Bend; brother, Bill Graves (Carolyn) of Ellsworth; and 10 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her parents; brother and sister-in-law, Roy and Linda Graves; and brother-in-law, LW “Butch” Jackson.

Kathleen M. “Kathy” Bruce, 69, died May 13, 2024, at Salina Regional Health Center, Salina, Kansas. She was born July 21, 1954, in Zumbrota, Minnesota, the daughter of Robert R. and Lela V. (Zimmerman) Kennedy.

On November 1, 1974, she married Robert W. Bruce, Sr. in Ness City, Kansas. He preceded her in death on July 2, 2019.

Kathy was a long-time employee of Rush County Memorial Hospital in La Crosse, Kansas, where she worked as a CNA, and she deeply cared for her residents. On her days off she worked cleaning houses and offices. Her organizational skills were also put to use organizing family events and reunions and she cherished the time spent with family and friends.

She is survived by; a son, Bob Bruce, Jr. (Lori) of Hoisington; three daughters, Tina Sisson of Bemidji, Minnesota; Helen Brown of Hemet, California, and Betty Bergman (Ken) of Peck, Idaho; her mother, Lela Kennedy; three brothers, Karyl Kennedy (Trudi), Richard Kennedy, and Tom Kennedy, all of Pine Island, Minnesota; and a sister, Helen Toutges (Rick) of Byron, Minnesota; and many grandchildren and great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her father, husband, a son, Christopher Bruce, and a daughter, Linda Walker and four brothers.

Per Kathy’s wishes cremation has taken place and a Celebration of Life Service will be held from 11 a.m. – 2p.m., Sunday, June 2nd, 2024, at the American Legion back room, Hoisington, Kansas. She will be laid to rest next to her husband Robert in Pine Island Cemetery, Pine Island, Minnesota at a later date.

John Lucien Giroux, 55, passed away May 13, 2024 at Kansas Heart Hospital, Wichita.

He was born June 4, 1968, in Windsor, Ontario, Canada, the son of Armand Lucien and Gloria Diane Giroux.

An area resident since 2022, he moved from Lenexa and was a songwriter. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, Great Bend and enjoyed playing guitar, singing, and scripture study.

On May 25, 1991, he married Kristine Lea Heintz in Toronto, Canada; she survives.

Other survivors include: daughter, Megan Marcielle Giroux, Larned; son, Nathaniel Lucien Giroux, Larned; sister, Stephanie (David) George, Jarvis, Ontario, Canada; brother, Joseph Starski, Detroit, Michigan; four nieces, Rae, Amanda, Jordan, Cordelia; two nephews, Dakota and Luke.

Larned - Martha Ann Scranton, 79, passed away May 13, 2024 at Diversicare of Larned.

She was born April 26, 1945 in Great Bend, Kansas, the daughter of James Nelson and C. Lucile Myers Deason.

A longtime area resident, she graduated from Great Bend High School in 1963 and earned degrees from Kansas University and Kansas State University. She moved to Larned with her husband Ron in 1972 and purchased the Larned Greenhouse and added a Flower Shop and Nursery. The business closed in 2012. Martha was active in the community, serving on many boards and committees. Martha belonged to AAUW, Larned Garden Club, Fort Larned Historical Society and Fort Larned Old Guard.

On April 8, 1967 she married Ronald F. Scranton in Lawrence, Kansas; he preceded her in death on June 15, 2016.

Survivors include: daughter, Kimberly (Jay) Holthaus, Leawood, Kansas; three granddaughters, Gretchen (Joey) Barenberg, Dallas, Texas, Maureen Holthaus, Chicago, Illinois, and Alison Holthaus, Leawood, Kansas; and sister-in-law, Sonya Steeples, Hays, Kansas.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Ron, and brother James Deason.

Marvin passed away at his home in DeLand, Fla. on Jan., 25, 2011. He was 81 years old. He was born in Great Bend on Dec. 11, 1929. His parents were Dewey Henry Converse &amp; Ruth Ann Elise (Koch) Converse. He was their only child.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Dorothy “Dee” (Neill) Converse; his stepfather, Dr. Thomas B. Powell; step-brothers and sister, Jack Powell; Donald Powell and Winifred (Powell) Stanfield. Survivors include first cousins, Arlyn G. Converse of Leawood; Carole Ruth Converse of Larned, and William P. Koch of Washington D.C. He is also survived by his stepdaughter and grandson, Marilyn Parlato; (husband Tom) and Ryan Parlato of Colorado Springs, Colo.

Marvin grew up in Larned and graduated from Larned High School in 1948. He attended Fort Hays State for one year then transferred to the University of Kansas and received a degree in Geology Engineering in 1953. He then went to Navy OCS in Pensacola, Fla., and served in the US Navy as a Lieutenant, assigned to Tactical Air Control Squadron. He began his working career with the Carter Oil Company in Rawlings, Wyo. and then later with Black &amp; Veatch Engineering in Kansas City, Mo. The bulk of his career was working for the Central Intelligence Agency and the US State Department in Washington D.C. He retired after 25 years of service.

He loved to travel and watch sports, especially his beloved Kansas Jayhawks and the Washington Redskins. He was a member of the Presbyterian Church.

Vernon “Plug” Carl Pflughoeft, 70, passed away peacefully May 11, 2024, at Rice County Hospital, Lyons, Kansas. He was born on December 24, 1953, in Ellsworth, Kansas, to Homer and Caroline (Heitschmidt) Pflughoeft.

Vernon started his lifetime career in the oil industry working for Ed Rogers, then operating Pflughoeft Pumping in the 1980s. He then continued his career working for Bergman Oil Company, American Warrior Company, D.R. Lauck Oil Company, and Pflughoeft Well Service. This took him to make his home in Ellsworth, Barton, and Rice counties. In his early years, he enjoyed custom cutting during harvest. Vernon found joy when the family would gather on the 4th of July and shoot fireworks, having a particular enthusiasm for Roman Candles. He loved softball and enjoyed playing the sport for over two decades. Vernon could be found at the drag races or working on race cars during his free time.

Survivors include spouse of 32 years, Rita Clements; three sons, Tim Pflughoeft (Brenda) of Claflin, Jay Pflughoeft (Kassie) of Ellsworth, and Scotty Pflughoeft (Amber) of Lyons; two brothers, Roger Pflughoeft (Marilyn) of Wichita, and Charles Pflughoeft (Brenda) of Forsythe, Missouri; 11 grandchildren, and 4 great grandchildren.

Rosa Burroughs, 86, passed away May 9, 2024, at Bethany Home, Lindsborg, Kansas. She was born on August 10, 1937, in Devine, Texas, to Juan and Maria (Munoz) Guajardo. On November 18, 1958, she married Everett Burroughs in Somerset, Texas. He passed on July 6, 1994.

Since coming from Texas in 1959, Rosa was a Kansas resident, having lived in Hutchinson, Ellinwood, and Lindsborg, with most of her time in Great Bend. She was a homemaker, taking care of her and other’s children. Rosa loved people, baking, sewing, and attending craft shows with her husband.

Survivors include son, Everett Burroughs, Jr. and significant other Tracy Templeton of Great Bend; four daughters, Peggy Yahne and husband Bruce of Lindsborg, Mary Burroughs and significant other Clark Feaster of Syracuse, Teresa Alston of Great Bend, and Angella Guajardo and wife Tonia of Avon, Indiana; nine grandchildren; fourteen great grandchildren with one on the way; two great great grandchildren with one on the way; brother, Salvador Guajardo and wife Mary of Greeley, Colorado; three sisters, Margaret Evans of Devine, Texas, Lucy Ramirez of Waverly, Iowa, and Virginia Loera of San Antonio, Texas; two sisters-in-law, Teresa and Rita Guajardo; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Eileen Belle Bayer, 95, passed away peacefully May 8, 2024, at Azria Health Woodhaven, Great Bend, Kansas. She was born on May 6, 1929, in Lyons, Kansas, to Ernest and Margaret Maye (Bolton) Irvin. Eileen grew up and graduated from Lyons High School.

Eileen fell in love and married Donald Bayer on April 10,1949 and later welcomed a son, Gregory Bayer. They moved to the farm in Pawnee Rock, Kansas where she became a dedicated farmer’s wife; helping with harvest, meals, and any chores needing to be completed. During her more active years, Eileen enjoyed playing the violin and French horn in high school, singing in the church choir, and following Greg in his sports and musical activities. Never having idle hands, Eileen enjoyed cooking, crocheting, jig saw puzzles, and could often be found volunteering at CKMC gift shop. She was a faithful servant and attended United Church of Christ for many years. Donald preceded her in death on November 2, 1998.

Survivors include son; Gregory Bayer of Pawnee Rock.

She is preceded in death by her parents; beloved husband, brother; Claude Irvin, sister; Vera Burfied, sister; Erma Shoopman, and sister; Norma Koch.

During her more active years, Eileen enjoyed playing the violin and French horn in high school, singing in the church choir, and following Greg in his sports and musical activities. Never having idle hands, Eileen enjoyed cooking, crocheting, jig saw puzzles, and could often be found volunteering at CKMC gift shop. She was a faithful servant and attended United Church of Christ for many years. Traci was born July 21, 1982, in Hays, Kansas, the daughter of Gerald J. and Cindy M. (Stricker) Herrman. She was a resident of Hays, Kansas, for five years, moving there from La Crosse, Kanas. A 2000 graduate of La Crosse High School, La Crosse, Kansas, Traci was employed for many years as a data clerk in accounting departments for two different industries.

Carolyn Arnold, 75, passed away May 6, 2024, at her home in Great Bend, Kansas. She was born on June 12, 1948, in Larned, Kansas, to Elwood and Druscilla (Post) Cole. On November 20, 1974, she married Leon Arnold in Great Bend.

Being born and raised in Larned, Carolyn was a resident of Great Bend. She was a hard worker, and owned Carolyn’s Corner Café, The Loft, and Classic Inn. She was a competitive person – from being a corn hole champion to a semi-professional bowler to playing cards. Carloyn was an excellent baker, enjoyed fishing, and taking care of and spending time with family, especially the grandchildren.

Survivors include her husband of the home; three sons, Harry Thorne, IV, and wife Helen of Nekoma, Bryan L. Thorne and wife Genoveva of Beloit, and Troy Thorne and wife Danielle of Larned; step daughter, Tracy Lea; ten grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; brother, Darrell Cole and wife Vicky of Gordonville, Texas; beloved nieces Vesta, Sonja, Elva and Tina; best friend, Donna Selle; numerous other loved ones; and cherished dogs, Toby and Sparky.

She is preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Harley, William, and Frank Cole; and four sisters, Gwendolyn Sharp, Diane Armbruster, Sharon Larsen and Phyllis Kelly.

Michael Glenn Goodman, 67, passed away Monday, May 6, 2024, at Pleasant View Home, Inman. He was born on June 20, 1956, in Great Bend to Harold and Betty (Moore) Goodman.

Michael was a 1974 graduate of St. John High School, after which he served the county in the United States Navy. He then worked as a welder at Great Bend Manufacturing, before moving on to a lumber yard in Colorado, working for Haven Steel in Haven, and then at Tyson in Hutchinson. He was a member of VFW Post 180 and enjoyed hunting.

Survivors include son, Jason Goodman and wife Sherrie of Flemington, New Jersey; two grandsons, Zachery and Aiden Goodman; and two sisters, Connie Kirby of Sterling and Carla Barnes of Hutchinson.

He is preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers, Larry and Earl Goodman.

Graveside service will take place at 3 p.m. Friday, May 10, 2024, at Great Bend Cemetery, with Pastor Michael Munz presiding. Memorials have been designated to Wounded Warrior Project, in care of Bryant Funeral Home, 1425 Patton Rd., Great Bend, KS 67530.

Harriet Louise (Casper) Honderick joined her parents in heaven Sunday, May 5, 2024.

Harriet was born Dec. 14, 1955, in Hays, the daughter of Harry and Drucella (Becker) Casper. She grew up in Plainville with her brothers, Harry Casper, Bruce Casper, Richard Casper, and Brian Hashenberger. She was a resident of Rush County for many years. A graduate of Plainville High School, Plainville, Harriet received her Associate Degree in Nursing from Pratt Community College, Pratt. She worked for a time at Larned State Hospital as a pharmacy technician. Later, Harriet worked for Brock Whitmore State Farm Insurance, La Crosse, as an agent.

In September 1973, she married John J. Stout. To this union four children were born, Steven, Carissa, LaShelle, and Jennifer. Harriet and John later divorced.

On July 23, 1993, she married David H. Honderick in Leonard, Texas. He preceded her in death Feb. 4, 2003.

She leaves behind her longtime boyfriend, Ray Buttke; her cherished Pekingese, Hope; one son, Steven Stout (Lynn), Hebron, Neb.; three daughters, Carissa Gentry (Terry), Louisville, Kentucky, LaShelle Schroter (Bill), La Crosse, and Jennifer Stout, Hoisington; one step-son, Craig Honderick, Sanger, Texas; one step-daughter, Conni Souder, Gordonville, Texas; 18 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and three brothers, Harry Casper, Bruce Casper, and Brian Hashenberger.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, John J. Stout; her second husband, David H. Honderick; and her brother, Richard Casper.

A celebration of Harriet’s life will be Tuesday, May 7, 2024, at 3 p.m. at Sonny’s Bar &amp; Grill, Liebenthal.

John Siefkes, age 77 years, passed away at his home in Great Bend early on Friday morning, May 3, 2024. John was born on December 1, 1946 at Stafford, Kansas to Harold Earl and Glendoris Minnie (Kottwitz) Siefkes. He grew up in Ellinwood, Kansas and graduated from Ellinwood High School in 1965.&nbsp; He was united in marriage to Gloria V. Barney on June 29, 1968 at Honolulu, Hawaii.&nbsp; John served proudly in the U.S. Navy returning to Ellinwood in 1970 then moving to Great Bend in 1975, where he had worked in Automotive Body Repair for Reiter Chevrolet, Julian’s Body &amp; Frame, and Marmie’s Collision Center and later worked at Water’s Hardware in Great Bend for a number of years. John attended The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints for many years.&nbsp; He loved to bicycle with his wife Gloria, and together they each logged over 120,000 miles on their bicycles.&nbsp; John was a true craftsman at whatever he endeavored, whether it was woodworking and picture framing, gardening, or working with stained glass his perfectionism shined through.

Donald Morgenstern, 73, passed away May 4, 2024, at Ascension Via Christi St. Francis, Wichita, Kan. He moved on peacefully, surrounded by his brothers and sisters. He was born May 1, 1951, in Hoisington, Kan., to LeRoy and Loretta (Demel) Morgenstern.

Don attended Pittsburgh State University and then worked at plastics-related companies in Andover and Wichita before returning to Hoisington to farm. Don was recognized with a Kansas Farm Bureau Natural Resources Award. He was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church.

Don loved his extended family, driving a tractor, and a good cheeseburger. He enjoyed his Dr. K with a cigarette, and then a cigarette with another Dr. K. He knew the best way to enjoy baked beans was to pour them over his potato salad.

Survivors include one brother, Robert Morgenstern and wife Jan of Hoisington; three sisters; Joan Rziha and husband Leonard of Hoisington, Pam Willis and husband Greg of Hoisington, and Roxanne Bell and husband Tom of Salina, Kan; and one sister-in-law Lou Ann Morgenstern of Hoisington, and 15 nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Jerry Morgenstern, and a nephew, Matthew Morgenstern.

Leon Gerard Bahr, 68, died April 27, 2024, at his home in Olmitz, Kansas. He was born September 30, 1955, in Great Bend, Kansas, the son of Charles and Cecilia (Beran) Bahr. Leon attended St. Ann’s Catholic School and graduated from Otis-Bison High School in 1973. He then attended Barton Community College.

Leon worked as a welder at Rice Engineering in Great Bend for awhile, but his real love was farming and working on the family farm south of Olmitz.

He was a man of faith, and a member of St. Ann’s Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus.

He is survived by sisters, Judy Getty (Larry) of Hays, and Jane Brack (Bruce), of Rio Rancho, New Mexico; brother-in-law, Howard Morgan (Gert) of Marion; an uncle, Bob Bahr (Kathy) of Spring, Texas; an aunt, Rose Ann Wondra, of Hoisington, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Preceding him in death; his parents, sisters, Helen Morgan and Mary Lou Morgan, a niece, Kimberley Brack, and an infant nephew, Kevin Morgan.

Friends may sign the book 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. today thru Friday, there will be no viewing as cremation has taken place. Family will greet friends from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Friday, with Vigil and Knights of Columbus Rosary to begin at 6:00 p.m., all at the funeral home.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m., Saturday, May 11, 2024, at St. Ann’s Catholic Church, Olmitz, Kansas, celebrated by Father Warren Stecklein. Inurnment will follow in St. Ann Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to St. Ann Cemetery Fund, in care of Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home, PO Box 146, Hoisington, KS 67544.

Leon Bahr, age 68

Kathy Ann (Hearn) Henry, age 70, passed away on May 2, 2024, at the Midland Hospice House, Topeka. She was born on Sept. 15, 1953, at St. John, the daughter of Richard and Shirley (Heinlein) Hearn. 

Kathy was a homemaker and former waitress, and loved to play BINGO. She was a member of the VFW. On Aug. 15, 1970, she married Terry J. Henry at Stafford. He passed away on Mar. 7, 2009. Survivors include two daughters, Theresa (Craig) Dodson, Topeka, and Erin (Andy) Fanter, Marion. She was preceded in death by both parents, husband Terry, and a brother, Dennis Hearn. 

A graveside service will be 11 a.m. on Friday, May 10, 2024, at the Eden Valley Cemetery, North of Seward, with Pastor Tonya Andrews presiding. Memorials may be given to Midland Hospice House, Topeka, KS., in care of Minnis Chapel, P.O. Box 34, St. John, KS 67576.

Kathy Henry, age 70

Marilyn “Anne” Ochs, age 77, of Quincy died on Monday, May 1, 2023, at 2:30 p.m. in Sunset Home. Anne was born in Iola, Kan. on Oct. 1,1945, a daughter of Cody and Marie (Riedel) Ochs.

Professionally, she was a Banker beginning her career in 1972 with Intrust Bank of Wichita, Kan. from where she retired on Oct. 1, 1995.

She attended Mount St. Mary’s Convent in Wichita, Kan. and St. Mary of the Plains Boarding School in Dodge City, Kan. and Hoisington High School in Hoisington, Kan. where she was raised.

Anne was a member of the Church of St. Peter in Quincy.

Anne had lived in many places, including Bethany, Okla., Moscow, Idaho, Carson City, Nev., Wichita, Kan., Mexico, Mo., Denver, and Loveland, Colo. and Quincy, Ill. When her boys were youths, she served as a Cub Scout Den Mother. Anne sang in various church choirs and in her free time she liked doing crafts.

She is survived by her sons, Anthony J. McDowell and Andrew Martin Funk. A grandson, Jacob A. Bell; one brother, Darrell Wolf; two sisters, Susan M. Engelhart and Nancy Shackelford; son-in-law, John C. Berrey and daughter-in-law, Diem Tran. Anne was preceded in death by her parents; and brother C. Joseph Ochs.

Cremation Inurnment Graveside services will be 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, May 14, 2024 at St. John Catholic Cemetery, Hoisington, Kansas, with Father Warren Stecklein presiding.
