Joseph Frederick “Joe” Danek, II, 71, passed away October 2, 2024, at his home in Great Bend, Kansas. He was born on February 5, 1953, in Lincoln, Nebraska, to Joseph and Elizabeth “Betty” (Musenbrock) Danek.
Living in Great Bend the majority of his life, Joe worked as a substation maintenance manager for Sunflower Electric Power Corporation prior to his retirement. He was a volunteer for the Barton County Historical Society and member of the Knights of Columbus Council #862. Joe was a smart man, with a mathematical mind and ability to teach himself many useful skills, like small engine repair. He enjoyed waterfowl hunting, particularly geese, was known as a jokester and very onery, a caregiver, and a very giving and generous man.
Survivors include three brothers, David Danek and wife Cheryl of Grand Island, Nebraska, Richard Danek and wife Sharon of Topeka, and Michael Danek and wife Tammy of Fulmouth, Virgina; two sisters, Marie Hutchison and husband John of Miami, Oklahoma, and Mary Bailey and husband Randy Springfield, Illinois; and numerous nieces, nephews, and loved ones.
He is preceded in death by his parents.
Visitation will take place from noon to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, October 9, 2024, with family received guests from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., and Knights of Columbus Rosary at 7:00 p.m., all at Bryant Funeral Home. Funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, October 10, 2024, at Bryant Funeral Home, with Father Aneesh Parappanattu presiding. Memorials have been designated to Barton County Historical Society and Nature Conservancy of Kansas, in care of Bryant Funeral Home, 1425 Patton Rd., Great Bend, KS 67530.
