Due to delays in the construction process, the pool in Hoisington will not open until July 1.

With savings and “quality of life” sales tax revenue, the City of Hoisington approved a $3 million pool replacement at Bicentennial Park.

The hope was to have the new facility completed by the end of May, but Hoisington City Manager Jonathan Mitchell said Carrothers Construction has hit several delays in acquiring supplies and materials.

"I think they have been creative," said Mitchell. "The metal siding on the east facade of the building...they had a plan to order from a supplier. The supplier said they wouldn't have it to them until August, so Carrothers found another provider that can fabricate that siding.

Mitchell said the contractor’s staff has averaged 20-30 hours of overtime each week.

"Our engineer does not believe we can make liquidated damages for the delay because the reason for the delay is out of their control," said Mitchell.

When the pool does open, there will no after-hours parties this year at the pool because the light poles are not expected to arrive until the end of July.

The proposed pool hours in Hoisington this summer are:

Monday - Friday
Open Swim: 1 - 5 p.m.
Adult Swim/Water Aerobics: 5 - 6:30 p.m.
Evening Swim: 6:30 - 8:30 p.m.

Saturday - Sunday
Open Swim: 1 - 7 p.m.
