Kathryn, A. Coffman, 80, passed away December 1, 2025, at Allure Skilled Nursing Facility in Moline, Illinois. She was born May 21, 1945, in Great Bend, Kansas, to Lyle and Hazel (Michael) Foster. She married Stephen Charles Coffman in January 1980. Of this union, they were blessed with sons, James L. Coffman and Travis B. Coffman. They later divorced.

Kathryn was a Great Bend High School and Kansas State University graduate. In 1996, she moved to Macomb, Ill., where she spent 10 years as a supervisor and events coordinator at Wesley Village Assisted Living Center. She was a member of Wesley Methodist Church and active in the women’s group. She also volunteered for years at local school events and Wesley Village after her retirement. She enjoyed traveling and baking and would willingly share any of her recipes. However, recipients found they rarely worked out as good as hers since Kathryn didn’t follow the recipes herself.

Survivors include her sons; Travis Coffman and his wife Stella of Austin, Texas, and James Coffman and his wife Karen of Silvis, Illinois; sister, Sue Roberts of Ellinwood; two grandchildren, Abigail Coffman (James) and Levi Coffman (James); four nieces, their spouses, and families. She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Gary L. Foster; brother-in-law, T.J. Roberts.

Memorial services are being scheduled to occur in Illinois and Kansas.

Services in Kansas will be held at 10:00 a.m., December 12, 2025, at Great Bend First United Methodist Church with Reverend Robert Selvakumar presiding. Inurnment will follow at Great Bend Cemetery. A reception will then be held at the American Legion in Ellinwood.

Services in Illinois will be held at 11:00 a.m., December 15, 2025, at Macomb Wesley Methodist Church. A reception will be held at the atrium. Memorials have been designated to Welsey Village, in care of Bryant Funeral Home, 1425 Patton Rd., Great Bend, KS 67530.

Joel Michael Munoz, Sr., 35, passed away on November 27, 2025, at Saint John Hospital, Leavenworth, Kansas. He was born on August 3, 1990, in Odessa, Texas, to Eleuterio and Ysa Perez.

A resident of Leavenworth, Joel worked as a welder for Zephyr Products, Inc. He enjoyed lifting weights, playing cornhole, and spending time with family and friends, especially his children.

Survivors include his wife, Jasmine Munoz of the home; children, Joel Michael, Jr., Estella Sofia, Isabella Rosalee, and Xavier Quinn Munoz; siblings, Leonel and Cassandra Lira, Cristian and Brianne Gonzalez, and Trevon and Elizabeth Jackson, German Perez, and Wendy Perez; and numerous extended family members and loved ones.

Joel Michael Munoz, Sr., age 35

Joyce (Hey) Marcum was born on April 20, 1961, in Independence, KS to Frank and Karen (McAlister) Hey. She passed away peacefully on November 28, 2025, in the comfort of her home, surrounded by her loving husband, Bob Marcum of Great Bend, KS, and her two children, Jordan Watson of Andover, KS, and Hunter Marcum of Russell, KS.

Bob and Joyce shared 34 years together, including 30 years of marriage. Their story began in 1991 when Joyce started working as bookkeeper at Food4Less where Bob was working as store management. Their connection was instant and lasting, they were married on June 10th, 1995. Bob stepped into Jordan’s life when he was 8 years old, and in 1999, their daughter Hunter was born, completing their family.

In 2001, the family moved to Great Bend, KS. Joyce transferred to the Great Bend Food4Less, where she worked for a few years before joining Bob’s family business, Precision Printing &amp; Supply Company, which was started by Bob’s father. Though she enjoyed her work and brought many smiles to her coworkers, Joyce’s favorite and most cherished role was being a wife and a mom.

Joyce filled the world with warmth, humor, and unwavering love for the people she cared about. She never missed a ball game or important moment in her children's lives, always showing up with her steady support and proud smile. She celebrated their victories and stood by them through every challenge, offering encouragement and love. She took immense pride in her family, and her love will continue to live on through them. Joyce also adored her dogs, who brought her endless joy and companionship.

Joyce treasured her family and friends deeply. In the summertime, she could always be found at the pool, floating contently in the sun—her happy place. Those who knew her will forever picture her there, smiling, relaxed, and at peace. From 2006 to 2013, the family spent many weekends camping at Pete’s Puddle, creating friendships, memories, and moments of joy that will last a lifetime. If there was water nearby, Joyce was sure to be in it.

Throughout her life, Joyce demonstrated remarkable courage. After being diagnosed with MS, she faced each day with grace and determination. Early this month, she received the devastating diagnosis of pancreatic cancer. Even then, she fought bravely, meeting this cruel disease with strength, resilience, and an unwavering spirit. Her family was by her side every step of the way.

Joyce is survived by her loving husband, Bob Marcum; her son, Jordan Watson; her daughter, Hunter Marcum; her brother, Craig Hey, and his wife, Candra Hey, of Cherryvale, KS.; and their three children, who were cherished as her nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Karen Hey, whom she loved dearly.

Joyce was a beautiful person—inside and out—and her kindness, strength, and love touched countless lives. We will always miss her, but her spirit will remain with us forever.

Joyce Marcum, age 64

Edmund “Ed” Francis Martinez, 91, passed away November 25, 2025 surrounded by his children at Clara Barton Hospital, in Hoisington, Kansas. He was born in San Luis, Colorado to Frank and Jemma (Bellino) Martinez. He graduated from Marysville High School and Kansas State University. Ed married Patricia Lousie Cilek on May 29, 1955 in Hutchinson, Kansas. She passed away September 4, 1998.

Ed served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. After his service in the Army and graduation from Kansas State University he worked for the Food and Drug Administration in the Kansas City and St. Louis area. He found a career as an entomologist for the State of Kansas in 1963 until his retirement in 1998. Ed deeply loved the outdoors and found joy in hunting, fishing, hiking, scuba diving, and traveling the world. More than anything, though, he loved his family. Throughout his life, Ed looked for opportunities to serve and mentor younger generations. He was a proud Boy Scout in his youth and later earned the distinguished Silver Beaver Award as an adult. His commitment to scouting ran deep. He completed 27 trips to Philmont Boy Scout Ranch and Charles L. Sommers Northern Adventures, and served as an Explorer Scout, an Explorer Leader, and a Boy Scout Leader. Ed also taught life-saving classes at Barton County Community College, ensuring future generations were equipped with critical skills. Ed’s passion for animals and agriculture led him to become involved as a 4-H Leader, where he guided and encouraged young members. He cherished hunting at Cheyenne Bottoms and later became involved with bird banding, capturing the beauty of wildlife through his lens. His photography and videography of bird life earned him the Audubon Award, a recognition he was truly proud of. For his service to our country, Ed was honored with a Quilt of Valor, a symbol of gratitude and respect for his sacrifice and commitment.

Survivors include son, James R. Martinez and his wife Christine of Great Bend; daughters Mary Berglund and her husband Elden of Eagle Nest, NM, Kathryn Martinez of Great Bend; sister Nedra Clark of Makakilo, Hawaii; grandchildren, Jeremy (Judy) Herren, Jennifer (Kevin) Feuquay, Kim (Zach) Dieckmann, Justin (Sonette) Herren, Kimo Martinez, Lehua Martinez, Rebecca Patterson, Melissa Patterson, Dewayne Patterson, Jr., Patricia (Geddy) Patterson and Amanda (Ben) Browning; and 36 great grandchildren. Lawrence Francisco Espinosa, 81, fell asleep in death on November 23, 2025, at Overland Park Regional Medical Center in Overland Park, Kansas. He was born in Great Bend, Kansas on March 4, 1944, to Jose and Natalia (Ramirez) Espinosa. On June 27,1964, he married Karla Jean Neal in Great Bend.

A lifetime resident of Great Bend, Lawrence began working in his early teens with the family business, Espinosa and Sons Trash Service. Later he began working in the oil patch as a roughneck, driller, roustabout, mechanic, and more. He worked for several companies including NCRA and later retired from Farley Machine Shop.

Lawrence was one of Jehovah’s Witnesses. He dedicated his life to faithfully serve Jehovah God and was baptized on May 5, 1974. For more than 50 years, he loyally served as an exemplary brother and spiritual father to many in the congregation, and he also served for decades as a congregation elder. One of his greatest joys was serving in the full-time ministry for nearly 10 years. Sharing God’s Word with others was of utmost importance to him. He didn’t know a stranger and could strike up a conversation with anyone he met. He had a unique way of formulating illustrations that helped the listener to really think. Even when enduring serious health issues, his primary concern was about others and his desire to share the Good News with them.

Lawrence had a deep-seated love for family. He was known for being a loving husband, father, brother, grandfather, uncle, and friend. Whether fishing, playing a card game, or enjoying a game of baseball, Lawrence loved life and was an encouraging mentor.

Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Karla, who affectionately called him Larry; son Michael L. Espinosa and wife Graciela of Great Bend; four grandchildren Zachary, Jazmine, Michael A., and Marco; three great grandchildren, Natalie, Harley, and Karica; four brothers, Joe Espinosa, Butch Espinosa, Robert Espinosa, all of Great Bend, Gilbert Espinosa and wife Cindy of St Louis; two sisters, Jane Stejskal of Great Bend, and Lalita Semon and husband Mark of Wichita; former daughter-in-law Rebecca; many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, son Christopher Espinosa, two brothers Oscar Espinosa and Jesse Espinosa.

William “Billy” Paul Widiger, Jr., 47, passed away November 24, 2025, at Pratt Regional Medical Center, in Pratt, Kansas. He was born April 28, 1978, in Valley City, North Dakota to William "Willy" and Tina (Sauter) Widiger. Billy was previously married to Joey Ramos and she had a daughter, Victoria Flores. They later divorced. He married Melissa Ewing December 16, 2006, in Great Bend, Kansas.

Billy grew up in Butte, N. Dak., before moving to Jetmore in 1992. He then moved to Larned and worked for Carr Auto Electric as a small engine master mechanic. A current resident of Great Bend, Billy presently worked for Harbison-Fischer as a warehouse manager and part time for the Claflin Police Department and as a CDL instructor. He previously served on the Great Bend Police Department for nine years and later worked for Mark’s Custom Signs.

Billy was a strong Godly man and was a faithful member of Encounter Church. He was involved in the men’s ministry, at Encounter Church and his passion was supporting and mentoring others. He lived his faith out loud and used the tests in his life for his testimony. Billy loved the outdoors and riding his bikes, whether they needed pedaling or had a motor. He enjoyed coffee, shooting, and paintballing were some of his greatest enjoyments. Yet even with all he loved, his heart was centered on God, and he saw his greatest joy and blessing in the time he spent with his wife, children, grandchildren, and friends.

William "Billy" Paul Widiger, Jr., age 47

Mark Alan DeWald passed away on November 19, 2025. He was born on October 12, 1953, in Hays, Kansas at Hadley Hospital to Harlan E. DeWald &amp; Delores (Popp) DeWald.

“A 10 pounder! Sorry, Mom! LOL! I was a nuisance to my sister Janice who was 5 years older. I stole her thunder and messed up her coloring books! I always considered myself a Rush County resident.”

Mark was baptized November 1, 1953, at Hope Lutheran Church in LaCrosse, and confirmed on Reformation Sunday at First Lutheran Church in LaCrosse. He was promoted from LaCrosse Elementary in 1967 and graduated from LaCrosse Rural High School in 1971.

He was active in 4-H, receiving the Gold Award and the Key Award. In the 5th grade he played cornet, then trumpet, which was a defining decision in his life. Although he was good in track and was the high school yearbook editor, it was band where he really succeeded. He was awarded the John Phillips Sousa Award in high school and the Ken Ochs Scholarship for overall participation in high school activities. Mark also received music scholarships from Ft. Hays State University and received a bachelor’s degree in Vocal &amp; Instrumental Music as well as being certified to teach journalism. He was on the Reveille (yearbook) staff all 5 years at FHSU. During his college year, he expanded his photography knowledge from the 4-H years by buying a 35 mm Minolla camera (thanks to his parents).

Teaching was one of his passions. He taught at Inman 2 years, WaKeeney 24 years, Hoisington 5 years, and Great Bend High School Band 11 years. He retired from full time teaching in 2019, but taught band part time at USD 112 (Central Plains) for 2 years and 1 year at Holy Family in Great Bend for a total of 45 years. He continued to volunteer his knowledge and talent when asked and where needed including directing Christmas cantatas and playing in community concerts.

While at WaKeeney, he taught vocal music grades 6-12 and yearbook/newspaper. His vocal group the “TCHS Chorale” was the featured choral group on KAYS TV on Christmas Day for approximately 14 years. During his teaching at WaKeeney, he transitioned to being the band director due to a “reduction-in-force” of teaching staff. He enjoyed entering a different form of teaching although it took a lot of “review from the college days.”

Dad had many successes in life which definitely included his family. He married his high school sweetheart, Enid J. “E.J.” Schlegel on May 26, 1974 at the United Methodist Church in Alexander, Kansas. He and E.J. rejoiced when daughter, Jessica Marie, was born in 1977, and son, Jonathan, was born in 1984. They were saddened when Justina Elizabeth was pre-maturely born and died on March 15, 1986. E.J. was also an educator and was diagnosed with MS in 2006. She did a medical retirement in 2008 and passed away on August 19, 2020 in Wichita.

Mark was a member of First Lutheran Church, LaCrosse, National Educators Association lifetime member, National Association for Music Education lifetime member, District KMEA Jazz Chair for 3 yrs, Walnut City Masonic Lodge #148, NW Choral Chair 2 years, Director of Graham County Chorus for 15 years, Hope 1st Lutheran Choir Director and Rush County Christmas Cantata director as well as adjudicated KSHSAA regional music &amp; debate contests and League Music contests. The past few years he has spent practicing and playing accompaniment for congregational worship on Sundays.

Survivors include daughter, Jessica Riebel and husband Chase; son, Jonathan DeWald and significant other Julie Selbe; twelve grandchildren, Jacob, Abigial, Alexandria, Anastasia, Ashley, Flint, Tinesha, Reuben, Heaven, Christian, Mason, and Sebastian; seven great grandchildren with two on the way; sister, Janice Huthoefer and husband Don; brother-in-law, Gary Wilson; aunt, Shirley Maier; and numerous cousins and extended family members.

He is preceded in death by his wife of 46 years; infant daughter, Justina Elizabeth DeWald; father, Harlan DeWald; mother, Delores DeWald-Hanhardt and husband Robert; and nephew, Daniel Huthoefer.

Cremation has taken place. Memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, November 25, 2025, at First Lutheran Church in LaCrosse with Reverend Phyllis Burdge and Pastor Chase Riebel presiding. Mark Alan DeWald, age 72

Patricia “Pat” Ann Dirks, 89, passed away November 20, 2025, at River Bend Assisted Living in Great Bend, Kansas. She was born August 7, 1936, in Great Bend, to Henry &amp; Theresa (Krier) Hoffman. She married Homer Ray Dirks October 19, 1957, in Great Bend. He passed away March 25, 2004.

Pat worked as a registered nurse, receiving her training from the Dominican Sisters, and using her caring and compassionate character to assist patients at St. Rose and CKMC until her retirement. She loved to cook farm to table meals and bake delicious sweets to share. She was a member of Peace Lutheran Church and participated in many activities including the Turkey Supper for the surrounding area. She loved the holidays and would decorate for all of them and serve as the best hostess to friends and family. Pat worked diligently gardening and taking interest in canning, especially pickles. She was a member of Hillside EHU. Family was very important to her, and she took much pride in the legacy Homer and her had created. She truly was the matriarch that will be missed by her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great great grandchildren.

Constance “Connie” Lea Weiser, 77, passed away November 14, 2025, at Via Christi St. Francis in Wichita, Kansas. She was born June 9, 1948, in Great Bend, to Lawrence &amp; Leona (Beck) Weiser.

Connie received her bachelor’s in music education from Marymount College in 1970, and taught at Jennings, Great Bend, Schulte, Downs, and Claflin before retiring in 2005. She provided private lessons to students and was an accomplished musician, being versed in many instruments. She served St. Patrick Catholic Church and First Christian Church as an organist. She volunteered her time during the summer teaching at Riley Elementary. She had a compassionate heart and took care of both her parents until their passing.

Survivors include her sisters, Linda Barnes of Wichita, Patricia Harbaugh of Lawrence; brothers, Don Weiser and his wife Lynne of Salina, Michael Weiser and his wife Lexie of Salina, Kent Weiser of Emporia; many nieces and nephews; and her beloved dachshund Poppie. Constance "Connie" Lea Weiser, age 77

Linda Lou Plowman, 82, passed away peacefully on November 19, 2025, at Country Living of Larned, Kansas. She was born in Lawrence, Kan., April 17, 1943, the daughter of Albert &amp; Edith (Denewiler) Floro.

Linda married George T. Plowman August 10, 1963, in Lawrence. They were blessed with three children. She worked as a medication aide for Great Bend Manor and then Cedar View until her retirement. Linda loved children and being very involved in the community, and it showed in her volunteering. She served as a homeroom mother at Lincoln Elementary and various other activities, helping children in their education. She was a 4-H leader for the City Slickers group and was a Girl Scout Leader. She was a faithful member of Church of Christ where she served as a teacher, assisted with funeral dinners, and additional church activities.

Linda was a very gracious hostess of events and was extremely hospitable. She let God’s light shine through her in her kindness, giving, compassion, and big heart for others. She loved collecting “I Love Lucy” memorabilia, and movies of various genres, whether they were VHS or DVDs. In all her accomplishments, her greatest was her faith, marriage, children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.

Survivors include her beloved husband of 62 years, George T. Plowman; son, G. She was born in Lawrence, Kan., April 17, 1943, the daughter of Albert &amp; Edith (Denewiler) Floro.Linda married George T. Plowman August 10, 1963, in Lawrence. They were blessed with three children. She worked as a medication aide for Great Bend Manor and then Cedar View until her retirement. Linda loved children and being very involved in the community, and it showed in her volunteering. She served as a homeroom mother at Lincoln Elementary and various other activities, helping children in their education. She was a 4-H leader for the City Slickers group and was a Girl Scout Leader. She was a faithful member of Church of Christ where she served as a teacher, assisted with funeral dinners, and additional church activities.Linda was a very gracious hostess of events and was extremely hospitable. She let God’s light shine through her in her kindness, giving, compassion, and big heart for others. She loved collecting “I Love Lucy” memorabilia, and movies of various genres, whether they were VHS or DVDs. In all her accomplishments, her greatest was her faith, marriage, children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.Survivors include her beloved husband of 62 years, George T. Plowman; son, G. Linda Lou Plowman, age 82

Don L. “Bub” Young passed away peacefully Tuesday, November 18, 2025. He was born on July 20, 1949, in Pratt, Kansas, the second son of Richard D. and Bernice J. (Stone) Young.

Don attended school primarily in Sylvia, Kansas. He graduated from Pratt High School and attended Kansas State Teachers College in Emporia, where he met and fell in love with his wife of 57+ years. He and Susan M. Poland were united in marriage on June 6, 1970. They made their home in Kansas but also resided in Texas. They spent the last 37 years in Great Bend, Kansas. Sons Briand and Bradley were born to he and Susan.

Don was in sales in the steel fabrication industry. He was acquainted with numerous people across the United States. Many of his associates and customers became friends and remain so today. He practiced his motto “Customers First” to the benefit of many. Don was also a member of First United Methodist Church. He was a loving son, brother, husband, and papa. Family was most important to him. Don gave his time willingly and enthusiastically to his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.

Don is survived by his wife, Susan; son, Brian Young of Blue Springs, Missouri; grandchildren, Ashton Young of Boise, Idaho, Carter Young of Hays, and McKenzie Mendez and husband Brandon and children, Brady, Brynlee Jo, and Bradley Don of Great Bend; brother, Tom Young and wife Sally of El Dorado; and sister-in-law, Dana Young of Lindsay, Texas. Aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends were cherished by Don.

He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Bradley Young; and brother, Danny Young.

Cremation was selected and an inurnment will take place at a later date. There will be no services at this time. In lieu of flowers or memorials, Don requests that you please hug your family.

Don L. "Bub" Young, age 76

Joan Rziha, age 82, passed peacefully into the arms of her Lord on November 18, 2025, at Aster Estates Homes Plus in Great Bend. Leaving behind a legacy of faith, family, and quiet service that touched countless lives. Born on February 28, 1943, in Wichita Kansas, to Leroy and Loretta (Demel) Morgenstern. Joan grew up with strong values that shaped the woman she would become. She graduated from Hoisington High School in 1961 and attended Marymount College. She was united in marriage on August 21, 1965 to Leonard Rziha in Hoisington Kansas. Joan was employed in her early life at First Kansas Bank in Hoisington.

Joan is survived by her husband, Leonard Rziha, with whom she shared 60 years of love, and partnership.

She was the proud mother of three sons, each raised with her steady guidance, deep love, and unfailing faith: Mike and wife Rhonda Rziha, Topeka, Kansas, Scott and wife Robin Rziha, Hoisington, Kansas, Gary and wife Shanon Rziha, Lenexa, Kansas.

Her greatest joy was her family. She treasured her role as grandmother too: Abi and husband Bryce Boxberger, Hoisington, Kansas, Alex and wife Madison Rziha, Russell, Kansas, Paul Rziha, Great Bend, Kansas, Ariael and husband Logan Murphy, Lenexa, Kansas, Sahara Rziha, Lenexa, Kansas. She was also blessed with great-grandchildren: Ian Boxberger, and Katherine and Beau Murphy. Other survivors include her brother Robert Morgenstern and wife Jan of Hoisington Kansas; her sister Roxanne Bell and husband Tom of Salina, Kansas; sister Pam Willis and husband Greg of Hoisington Kansas; sister-in-law Lou Ann Morgenstern of Hoisington Kansas; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Leroy and Loretta (Demel) Morgenstern; her brothers, Jerry and Donald Morgenstern; and her nephew, Matthew Morgenstern.

A woman of deep and unwavering faith, Joan lived her Catholic values through quiet, steadfast acts of service. She was a devoted member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church and the Altar Society in Hoisington Kansas. She devoted many years as the funeral dinner planner, offering comfort to grieving families through meals, compassion, and presence. She also served as a Pink Lady volunteer at Clara Barton Hospital and dedicated countless hours to Holy Family School. Joan never sought recognition, her kindness was expressed in simple, everyday acts of love that left a lasting impact on others.

Outside of her service, Joan treasured traveling with her family. Whether visiting the lake, exploring Colorado, relaxing on Padre Island, or enjoying the magic of Disney World, she embraced every opportunity to create memories with those she loved. With a playful heart and a natural gift for nurturing, she joyfully cared for children and touched many young lives. Joan also loved spending time with her friends bowling and playing cards, where her witty sense of humor always kept things interesting.

Joan will be forever remembered for her warm heart, her devotion to family, her steadfast faith, and her lifelong dedication to serving others. Though she will be deeply missed, her spirit lives on in the love she shared, the example she set, and the generations blessed by her presence. 

Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, November 21, 2025, at St. John The Evangelist Catholic Church, Hoisington, with Father Warren Stecklein presiding. Interment will follow at St. John Cemetery, Hoisington. Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. to 8:30 p.m., Thursday, November 20th, at Nicholson-Ricke Funeral Home, with a Vigil and Rosary at 7:30 p.m.

Joan Rziha, age 82

Donnie Eugene “Don” Paden, 89, passed away November 17, 2025, surrounded by family at his home in Great Bend, Kansas. He was born on July 31, 1936, in Siloam Springs, Arkansas, to Clarence Herman and Walsie Bryan (Cook) Paden. Don graduated from Siloam Springs High School in 1957 and Manhattan Christian College in 1973. He also attended classes at John Brown University, Cloud County Community College, and Barton Community College. On June 19, 1965, he married Eula Beth White in Manhattan, Kansas. She passed on May 11, 2025.

A resident of Great Bend since 1977 coming from Plainville, Don was a pastor for 40 years, serving at Matfield Green Community Church, Roseville Christian Church, Jewell Christian Church, Plainville Christian Church, and Pawnee Rock Christian Church, as well as chaplain for the Great Bend Police Department and Barton County Sheriff Reserves for over 30 years. In addition to his ministry roles, he was a Walmart Associate for 15 years and assistant funeral director for 7 years. Don proudly served the county for 8.5 years in the Army National Guard in Arkansas. He was a member of the Noon Lions Club, served as the Riley School PTA president and Golden Belt Diabetes Association chairman, and was a talented ventriloquist. Don enjoyed fishing and cherished spending time with his family.

Survivors include five children, Kathy Covert and husband Steve of South Lyon, Michigan, David Paden and wife Amy of Great Bend, Bill Paden and wife Anne of Great Bend, Edy Calvert and husband Rick of Great Bend, and Shari Karst of Great Bend; thirteen grandchildren, Mason Paden and wife Ally, Austin Young and wife Amber, Branden Paden and wife Taylor, Ethan Covert and fiancé Kathy Zhu, Donovan Paden, Daulton Paden, Avery Covert, Adam Covert, Dylon Paden and fiancé Paige Heine, Kyra Calvert, Cody Karst, R.J. Calvert, and Luke Karst; three great grandchildren, Isom Paden, Bentley Young and Wrynleigh Young, with one more on the way; and sister, Doris Pennington and husband Bob of Ozarks, Missouri.

He is preceded in death by his wife of 59 years and 11 months; parents; great grandchild, Brecklyn Paden; brother, Cleo Bryan Paden; and nephew, Steven Pennington.

Anneliese Henrietta Ward, 98, passed away peacefully on November 16, 2025, at Medicalodges in Great Bend, Kansas. She was born November 6, 1927, in Stafford, to Erich &amp; Hedwig (Hupe) Fruehauf. She married Samuel J. Ward July 17, 1949, in Hudson. He passed away May 11, 2019.

Anneliese was a proud farmer’s wife; making sure that dinner was on the table, the home was well kept, the children were taken care of, their garden was bountiful and raising chickens. She loved to sew and quilt and gift her creations to family and friends. She was a faithful member of First Christian Church. She enjoyed having the church ladies over for tea and fellowship at her home.

Survivors include son, Robert Ward of Anthony; daughter, Mildred Dills of Hutchinson; sisters, Hildegard Shewbart of Great Bend, Elenora Putnam of Ark.; grandchildren, Donnie Beeler, Duane Spears, Tracey Spears; many great grandchildren and great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, beloved husband of 69 years; daughter, Karen Spears; brother, Adalbert "Al" Fruehauf; son in laws, Bennie Dills and Al Spears.

Anneliese Henrietta Ward, age 98

Darlene Stephanie Bugner, 89, passed away on November 8, 2025, at Catholic Care Center in Bel Aire, Kansas. She was born on August 2, 1936, in Damar, Kansas, to Simon and Alma (Brin) Davignon. On April 21, 1956, she married Eugene “Gene” Bugner in Wichita, Kansas. He passed on December 25, 2022.

A Great Bend resident since 1968, coming from Garden City, Wichita, and Garden Plain, Darlene was a homemaker. She was a member of Prince of Peace Parish at St. Patrick Catholic Church, Altar Society, Daughters of Isabella, and a Eucharistic Minister for 15 years. Darlene also volunteered for St. Patrick Catholic School and the church, as well as taught CCD for junior and senior high students. She was a proud godmother to three children. Darlene enjoyed taking care of and spending time with her family.

Survivors include son, Bradley (Tammie) Bugner of Wichita; three daughters, Cynthia (David) Niederee of Derby, Julie (Mark) Smith of Pawnee Rock, and Jill Chambers of Great Bend; daughter-in-law, Nita Bugner of Wichita; two brothers, David (Leanna) Davignon of Damar, and Ivan (Darlene) Davignon of Rapid City, South Dakota; sister, Mary Blasi of Wichita; twelve grandchildren, Ben (Catie) Niederee, Joe (Maura) Niederee, Amy (Eric) Schierling, Stephanie (Nate) White, Ashley (Grant) Louvar, Brooke (Andy) Marshall, Olivia (Cody) Lopez, Peter Smith, Alexandra (A.J.) Beasley, Hannah Sisemore, Mikel Bugner, and Sophia Chambers; and 18 great-grandchildren.

She was born on August 2, 1936, in Damar, Kansas, to Simon and Alma (Brin) Davignon. On April 21, 1956, she married Eugene “Gene” Bugner in Wichita, Kansas. He passed on December 25, 2022.A Great Bend resident since 1968, coming from Garden City, Wichita, and Garden Plain, Darlene was a homemaker. She was a member of Prince of Peace Parish at St. Patrick Catholic Church, Altar Society, Daughters of Isabella, and a Eucharistic Minister for 15 years. Darlene also volunteered for St. Patrick Catholic School and the church, as well as taught CCD for junior and senior high students. She was a proud godmother to three children. Marie Ann Feist, 83, passed away peacefully on November 9, 2025, at Country Living of Larned, Kansas. She was born April 2, 1942, in Great Bend, to Henry &amp; Anna (Zeman) Staudinger. She married Thomas “Tom” Lewis Feist on October 19, 1963, in Dubuque. He passed away December 25, 2024.

Marie was a compassionate caregiver as a registered nurse for St. Rose Hospital then Central Kansas Medical Center for 45 years until she retired. She loved to garden, bake, and share her blessings with family and friends. She was very talented in quilting and sewing and loved a good game of bowling. She was involved in 4-H and enjoyed raising chickens, geese, and ducks. She was a member of Altar Society at St. Patrick Catholic Church. Above all, Marie loved spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She took much pride in the legacy her and Tom built in their lifetime.

Survivors include sons, Mark Feist of Dorrance, David Feist and his wife Kerry of Aurora, Co., Steve Feist and his wife Sheila of Great Bend, Curtis Feist and his wife Jodi of Salina; daughter, Lisa Schroeder of Great Bend; sisters, Loretta Kuhlman of Great Bend, Vera Conley of Great Bend, Trisha Mills and her husband Don of Salina; sixteen grandchildren; nine great grandchildren with one soon to arrive in January. Marie Ann Feist, age 83

John A. Peters, Jr., 74, passed away November 5, 2025, at Via Christi St. Francis in Wichita, Kansas. He was born April 11, 1951, in Phillipsburg, to Johnny Sr. &amp; Donna (Rogers) Peters. John married Jolene Rae Orebaugh Housman on December 17, 2011, in Great Bend.

John contracted polio at 6 months old and was permanently paralyzed in both legs for life. He attended Great Bend schools from 2nd grade through high school and was a Class of 1969 graduate. John attended Barton Community College from 1969 to 1970, the first year it opened and was a charter member of the Hilltop Singers. Afterward, he attended Kansas State University from 1970 to 1975 and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in music education. The first teaching position was at Hays Junior High. He ran for Hays School Board and perpetrated the bond issue project for a new Hays high school in 1978. He was a talented vocalist and was honored to perform “Requiem” by John Rutter at Carnegie Hall on March 19, 2000, with the Florida Symphony.

After teaching music, John worked in high technology sales, computers, software development, and was an independent insurance and investments broker. During his lifetime, he served as Minister of Music in churches in Kansas and Florida. He was the First Southern Baptist missionary (BSU) for the Fort Hays State University campus, also working with Campus Crusade and Navigators. He spread the word of God as a bible teacher at churches for college students, singles, and adults throughout his lifetime. John found the Lord Jesus Christ as his personal Saviour at First Southern Baptist Church of Great Bend, while attending grade school and pursued personal evangelism and bible teaching, leading many to saving faith. He proudly served, for a time, as choir director and bringing the choir together for the Easter cantata. John tuned pianos around the area in Kansas, Missouri, and Nebraska. He was a master mechanic and there wasn’t anything he couldn’t put back together and make work, including lawn mowers, finding enjoyment in mowing yards.

Survivors include his beloved wife; stepsons, Duayne Housman and his wife Lori of Brashear, Mo., Casey Housman and his wife Sabrena of St. Joseph, Mo.; sisters, Marla Dale (David) of Lexington, Ky., Lynn Cherry (Greg) of Edmond, Ok, Janet Schmidt (Mike) of Portland, Oreg., Susan Davis of Wichita, Gloria Turner of Tex.; grandchildren, Hayden Housman (Katie), Skylar Schumann (Matthew), Garrett Housman, Avery Housman, Hudson Housman; great grandchild, Cam Schumann; and aunt, Carol Kruetzer of Nebraska; and several nieces and nephews, including nephew, Chris Dale. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother-in-law, Mark Davis.

Virginia Lee Smith, 73, died November 6, 2025, at Azria Health Woodhaven, Great Bend, Kansas. She was born June 28, 1952, in Hoisington, Kansas, the daughter of Calvin E. and Betty Jean (Carroll) Smith. Virginia graduated from Hoisington High School in 1970. She then went to work at Tindall’s bakery. In 1974 she started working at Superior Essex Communications and worked there for 43 years retiring in 2017.

Virginia was an avid Royals and Chiefs fan and also loved following her nieces and nephews’ activities. She participated in several bowling leagues over the years and she enjoyed gifting her many sewing, crocheting, and craft creations.

She is survived by two sisters; Rhonda (Steven) Dezotell of Haysville, and Dee Ann Smith of Hoisington; six nephews and nieces, Gary (Cheryl) Dezotell, Brian (Kristi) Dezotell, Presley Smith, Delaney Smith, and Addison Smith and Chelsey Spaulding and five great nieces and nephews, Harley, Hailey, Sage, and Satchel Dezotell, and Ava Spaulding.

She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, Ron Smith, and a brother-in-law, Gary “Bubba” Smith; nephews, Chad and Doug Dezotell; and just recently her beloved dog, Bambi.

A resident of Wichita since 2005 coming from Great Bend, Blake, lovingly known as “Big Pimpin’”, worked as a customer service representative at Verizon, while working on his degree in agricultural business. He enjoyed rodeos, concerts, traveling – especially cruises, and watching football, particularly cheering on the University of Kansas and the Kansas City Chiefs. Blake loved spending time with his family and friends.

Survivors include his mother, Leslie and Steven Miller of Wichita; father, Jason and Lundy Settle of Great Bend; sisters, Bryli Brown of Wichita, and Sadie Settle of Great Bend; stepbrothers, Tate Miller and Trevor Miller and wife Kylie, all of Wichita; grandparents, Gail Barnard of Larned, Rhonda and Harold Settle, and Lyle and Cheryl Gunn, all of Great Bend; honorary grandparents, Gary and Rhonda Gabel of Shawnee Mission; close friends, Jeb and Baylee McClellan of Hutchinson; and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews.

Willis Joseph Bieberle, 93, passed away October 30, 2025, surrounded by family at Catholic Care Center, Bel Aire, Kansas. He was born on October 15, 1932, in Claflin, Kansas, to Joseph and Rose (Huslig) Bieberle. On August 2, 1955, he married Mary Theresa Demel in Odin, Kansas.

Willis worked as a gas meter measurement technician for Northern Natural Gas Company for 33 years in Beaver, Oklahoma. Upon retirement, he returned to Great Bend as a longtime resident. Willis proudly served the country as a corporal in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict prior to his working career. Willis was a member of Prince of Peace Parish – St. Patrick Catholic Church, and the Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed spending time with his family.

Survivors include his wife of 70 years, Theresa Bieberle; two sons, Mark J. and Robert A. Bieberle; daughter, Mary Kay (Dave) Lumadue; six granddaughters; one grandson; and fourteen great grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Clarence and Omer Bieberle; and sisters, Alice Jenish, Dorothy Moeder and JoAnn McGlinn.

Upon retirement, he returned to Great Bend as a longtime resident. Willis proudly served the country as a corporal in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict prior to his working career. Willis was a member of Prince of Peace Parish – St. Patrick Catholic Church, and the Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed spending time with his family.Survivors include his wife of 70 years, Theresa Bieberle; two sons, Mark J. and Robert A. Meleah Kay Frazer, 68, won her battle against cancer on October 30, 2025, at St. Luke Living Center in Marion, Kansas. She was born March 12, 1957, in Great Bend to Woodrow &amp; Gladys (McMullen) Woodrow. She married James “Jim” Frazer on May 31, 1980, in Great Bend. He saved her a seat in heaven on August 5, 1991.

Meleah received an associate’s degree in marketing from Pratt Community College. She worked for UMB, People’s Bank, and settled at Community Bank of the Midwest as a teller and banker for many years until her retirement in 2022. Meleah had a strong faith that carried her through life. She emanated God’s love to everyone she encountered. She found a church family at First United Methodist Church and served wherever she could. She loved adventures and to travel with friends and family to see God’s creations and make everlasting memories. Meleah was such a warmth to be around and always had a smile. Her daughters were her world and her greatest legacy.

Survivors include her treasured daughters, Alisha Farmer of Derby, Jenna Fanshier and her husband Ben of Marion; grandchildren, Weston Fanshier and Grayson Fanshier, mother-in-law and friend, Carol Frazer; many friends and church family. She was preceded in death by her parents; beloved husband; brothers, Gary Woodrow and Michael Woodrow; and father-in-law, Paul Frazer.

Cremation has taken place, and memorial services are planned for 10:00 a.m. Friday, Nov. 7, 2025, at Bryant Funeral Home with Chaplain Bob Phipps presiding. Beatina Weber, 92, passed away October 25, 2025, at her home in Great Bend, Kansas. She was born on February 2, 1933, in Hays, Kansas, to Jacob and Otillia (Bittel) Kinderknecht. On April 22, 1952, she married Lawrence Weber at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Ellis, Kansas. He passed on July 22, 1998.

A resident of Great Bend, Beatina worked in food services for USD 428 and was a CNA. She was a member of Prince of Peace Parish at St. Rose of Lima, Altar Society, and lifetime member and past president of the VFW Post 9139 Ladies Auxiliary in Ellis. Beatina loved sewing, puzzles, bird watching and nature. She especially loved spending time with her family.

Survivors include three daughters, Marilyn Selle (Allen) of Great Bend, Wanda Weber of Hoisington, and Connie Eulert (Bret) of Great Bend; daughter-in-law, Terri Weber of Hutchinson; special daughter, Carolyn Gray of Great Bend; nine grandchildren, Eric, Kaley (Chris), Jayci (Denzel), Scott (Megan), Kenton (Leah), Kyle (Nicole), Sierra (Ben), Sara, and Jessica (Mike); nine great grandchildren, Madelyn, Kolton, Chase, Abigail, John, Lucy, Catherine, Ellie, and Gemma; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her husband; two sons, Steve and Alan; eight brothers, Eugene, Walter, Herman, Richard, Charlie, Ralph, Victor, and Alan; and three sisters, Regina, Lillian, and Ione.

Mary Ann Krebs, age 78, passed away at her home on Sunday, October 19, 2025, in Tribune, Kansas. She was born on March 12, 1947, in Tribune, Kansas, to Raymond and Goldie Jones Kuder. Mary Ann spent most of her life in Tribune with brief visits to Seattle, Washington, Lamar, Colorado, Great Bend, Kansas, Hoisington, Kansas, and Syracuse, Kansas. She was a member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary, the International Association of Rebekahs, and the Syracuse Senior Center Board. She loved to play bingo, go to the casino, socialize, and play cards at the Tribune Senior Center.

Mary Ann married Richard Martin in 1970 to which three daughters were born. They later divorced.

Mary Ann married Wayne Krebs on November 29, 1996, at a ceremony in Tribune, Kansas. He passed away on August 4, 2002.

She married Rick Alan Stanton on March 19, 1983, and they were blessed with 27 years of marriage until his passing on July 9, 2010.

Debra obtained her bachelor’s in education. She worked for USD 428 for over 30 years as a behavior disorder educator then as a Great Bend High School resource teacher. She loved to go to concerts and expand her knowledge at museums. She made it a point to attend the Kansas State Fair. She enjoyed the outdoors and loved to take in all the animals at zoos. Above all else, Debra loved time spent with her friends, children, and grandchildren.
