While the newly elected councilmembers were sworn into office Monday night, there is still an open seat on the Great Bend City Council in the 3rd Ward.

No one filed for the position this past election and write-in candidate and former representative of the 3rd Ward Dana Dawson declined another term on the board.

Mayor Cody Schmidt appointed a three-person committee of Cory Urban, Junior Welsch and Jolene Biggs to review applications.

"This committee will do interviews and recommend a person for appointment to the 3rd Ward vacancy," said Schmidt.

Applications will be accepted until the end of the business day Jan. 19. Applications can be picked up at City Hall or at greatbendks.net. The application asks for your background and experience, why you are interested in serving and a list of community and civic associations in which you are involved in.

Interested individuals must reside in Ward 3, which consists of the southwest corner of the city.
