The Great Bend Zoological Society reached their goal of raising at least $26,000 to update the playground equipment at the Great Bend Brit Spaugh Zoo. The playground will be more ADA compliant with a wheelchair accessible swing, and now the Zoological Society will start planning for the purchase of the equipment and eventually installation.
Zoological President Alicia Boor said the society acts as the fundraising arm for the zoo.
"We have some endowments and have been able to receive some grants," said Boor. "We are able to bridge the gap between the city's budget and what the zoo needs. Sometimes the zookeepers will give us requests."
