There has been a lot of focus on the downtown area of Great Bend lately with studies and incentives to renovate upper level buildings into lofts or retail spaces. Great Bend Economic Development Director Sara Hayden says there will be another potential opportunity for downtown businesses to make renovations easier.
Any downtown properties that are historic buildings
could benefit from their historic status.
"If we are able to do that, that would enable any property owners in the district identified to go after tax credits and grants to help fund major renovation projects," said Hayden. "We will hopefully identify that this month."
An information session will be held June 18 at the Great Bend
Events Center to discuss the requirements to becoming a historical destination with
the Kansas Historical Society.
