The Great Bend Recreation Commission has given their fitness classes a fresh look in 2023. Yoga, Tai Chi and several of the other favorite cardio sessions are still available, but indoor cycling and suspension training classes are bringing in a new and different clientele.

Great Bend Rec Marketing Director Megan Hammeke said the spin classes, with stationary bikes, have attracted participants of all ages but especially those in their 30s.

"The cycling class has definitely brought a different group," said Hammeke. "The 9 o'clock class is starting to get filled up by our pickleball group. People who are retired and have that open spot. We have a lady in the cycling class that is new that is taking it because she has her daughter's wedding in May. She wants to get in shape for that."

Bars were recently installed on the walls in one of the gyms at the Great Bend Activity Center on 18th Street for the suspension class. Suspension fitness utilizes straps to accomplish the same exercises possible with free weights but by using your body weight.
