The theme for the Great Bend Public Library's Summer Reading Program this year is "All Together Now." Few fields demonstrate how things work together better than chemistry. That's why Jetpack Jason and the Mad Science crew are returning to Great Bend for a pair of programs at the library on Wednesday, June 21.

"We're going to ask the audience to participate," said Jessica Ney, youth library assistant. "It's interactive. We want them to come here and learn that being together and working together is just better."

Jetpack Jason helped USD 428 celebrate its reading initiative with performances at all five Great Bend elementary schools in February. His appearances at the library Wednesday include a show for all of the public, and an afternoon workshop for registered kids only.

"The first show, the one at 10:30, is just a show so anybody can come," Ney said. "We can fill the room if we need to because it's more of a demonstration and show. He'll talk about the science behind everything and do what he does. The afternoon is an actual workshop where we have the 20 registered."

Wednesday's workshop for children ages 7-12 begins at 1 p.m., and will feature a more in-depth look at chemical reactions and how to control them. Due to the materials available, that event is by registration only. Nine of the 20 available spots were filled as of Monday morning. CLICK HERE to register for the event.
