Some years, local fireworks shows for the Fourth of July holiday compete with one another. That will not be the case in Great Bend this year. The city will put on its fireworks display on Monday, July 3 around 9:45 p.m. at the Great Bend Expo Complex. The Barton County Commission recently approved another fireworks show at Encounter Church, 601 Patton Road in Great Bend, for Sunday, July 2. Associate Pastor Jake Newman presented to commissioners last Wednesday.

"Addison Baxter, a member of our church, puts on the display and it's second to none," Newman said. "It's really, really good. We have games and inflatables for the kids that are there. We have ice cream, food, all that stuff to go along with it. It's just a great family event to celebrate our country and celebrate just being together as a community."

Newman estimated between 500-600 people attended last year's event. The All-American Celebration begins at 6:30 p.m. that Sunday at Encounter Church. The fireworks show will begin on the southwest portion of the property after dark around 9:45 p.m.
