The future dates are getting scheduled for the process of making $2 million worth of improvements at Great Bend Brit Spaugh Park. The City of Great Bend has held two meetings so far with BG Consultants, the firm in charge of creating the design and construction documents.

Assistant City Administrator Logan Burns said the field survey is expected to be finished by mid-September.

"The schematic design, which is just preliminary, is scheduled to be completed on September 21...that's when we're going to have our meeting again to see what that looks like again," said Burns. "We're currently on schedule to complete construction documents on January 25, 2024. At that point, we can receive bids."

The plans include an outdoor basketball court, pickleball courts, mini soccer pitches, playground and a restroom facility on the south side of the park. BG Consultants, hired for $85,400, will help present a qualified construction bid to the Great Bend City Council on March 18.

The Brit Spaugh Park project will partially be funded through the .15% quality of life sales tax, Great Bend Recreation Commission, the Harms Trust and other donations.
