In an effort to improve Heizer Park in Great Bend, the City of Great Bend and Great Bend Recreation Commission allowed community members to take a 10-question online survey. The survey wanted feedback on the preferred use of the park located at the intersection of 8th Street and Heizer Street.
The survey had 420 responses before it closed Aug. 28 and the number one suggested improvement at the park was to install restrooms.
Rec Commission Executive Director Diann Henderson says the financial backing for potential improvements will have to come from the City of Great Bend at this time.
"Currently, we do not have this on our radar as a contributing major capital project," said Henderson. "We would like to be a partner in improving park spaces so we will keep our ears clearly tuned to the results to this survey and where it goes in future budgets."
The next most-suggested improvements from the survey included lighting, playground features and soccer field improvements.
New soccer goals were purchased for Heizer Park and the city is working to remedy the sticker problems that exist with the grass.
