The groundbreaking for the new daycare center in Great Bend has been pushed back to July 20, but the Advancing Barton County Childcare (ABCC) organization is excited to announce the location of a second daycare facility to be built within the county at the ceremony.

Estimated at $1.6 million, ABCC raised funds for the daycare facility to be built at the corner of 10th Street and K-96 Highway. Then ABCC found out they were awarded $2.23 million from the Kansas Children’s Cabinet and Trust Fund to help meet the county’s childcare needs.

Great Bend Economic Development Director Sara Arnberger said during the groundbreaking ceremony for the Great Bend daycare, officials will reveal the site for the second facility which is also fully funded.

"It was specified in our grant program," said Arnberger. "We had to tell them what our order would be for daycare locations. They picked which sites we are able to accomplish in order."

The 6,500-square-foot daycare in Great Bend will be available for up to 59 children.

Originally scheduled for July 11, the groundbreaking ceremony was rescheduled to accommodate some of the participants’ schedules. The groundbreaking ceremony July 20 will begin at 10 a.m.
