For the City of Great Bend, it’s always a welcomed sign when Police Chief Steve Haulmark introduces a new officer to the city council. The governing body was introduced to Damon Bryant Monday night.
Bryant started with the Great Bend Police Department two weeks ago and has 28 years of law enforcement experience, most recently in Rush County.
Recruiting police officers across the country is well known to be challenging, but Haulmark is pleased with the momentum his department has.
"We've had quite a few people applying," said Haulmark. "Some have worked out and we've been pretty fortunate. I think it's word of mouth. The guys and girls at the police department are happy. They see the support from the city and the council...it's being felt."
Already certified, Haulmark expected Bryant to be working on his own in the next few days.
