Fitness classes through the Great Bend Rec

The Great Bend Recreation Commission is forming its September sessions of exercise classes.  Participants will be required to bring their own exercise mats to class.  These classes will be held at the Great Bend Rec Activity Center located at 2715 18th Street.   

Join Dixie Divis for the following classes:  A.M. HIIT Express meets Mondays and Wednesdays from 5:15 – 6:00 am beginning September 7th through 28th.  This 30-minute cardio-focused class will utilize short bursts of high intensity exercise followed by periods of active recovery to produce an effective workout in a short amount of time.  A.M. Renewed Yoga meets Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6:00 – 6:45 am beginning September 6th through 29th.  This vinyasa inspired class will flow thru a gentle warm up and progress toward more challenging poses with options to modify as needed.  Midday Stretch & Strength meets Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays from 12:10 – 12:50 pm beginning September 6th through 29th.  Take advantage of your lunch hour to stretch & strengthen your entire body.  Get all the benefits of a strength workout with the bonus of alleviating everyday stiffness in just 40 minutes!  Don’t worry – you won’t need a show after this class so you can get back to work.

Join Laurie McCurry for the following classes:  Yoga meets Mondays and Wednesdays from 4:30 – 5:30 pm beginning September 7th through 28th.  This class integrates basic Yoga poses.  Strengthen and calm the body and mind, release stress, develop flexibility and focus.  Cardio Mix Up meets Mondays and Wednesdays from 5:45 – 6:45 pm beginning September 7th through 28th.    This class will incorporate Step, Kickboxing, interval training, or cardio dancing and floor routines.  We will also utilize other weight equipment, along with bands during the class.   

Join Dee Krier teaches our Tai Chi classes:  Tai Chi promotes strength, balance coordination, posture concentration, and a general level of energy.  This Chinese art is known as a means for dealing with stress and has eased the pain of arthritis and fibromyalgia.  It has also helped the following conditions:  heart disease, heart failure, hypertension, Parkinson’s disease, sleep problems and stroke.  You’ll work on relaxation, fluid movements, balance and breathing.  Flowing postures blend elements of physical exercise and relaxation.  Tai Chi Beginners meets on Wednesdays from 3:00 – 4:00 pm beginning September 7th through 28th.   Tai Chi Intermediate meets on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5:30 – 6:30 pm beginning September 6th through 29th.   Tai Chi Advance meets on Mondays and Wednesdays from 5:30 – 6:30 pm beginning September 7th through 28th.  Dee also teaches Gentle Yoga which meets on Mondays and Thursdays from 3:00 – 4:00 pm beginning September 8th through 29th or Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6:30 – 7:30 pm.  This exercise class is for all ages but would be beneficial for those needing a chair or low impact exercise.  Basic postures that include stretching, moving, and breathing will help build strength, flexibility, and balance.
