The Great Bend Recreation Commission and the City of Great Bend will
have an engineering firm develop a master plan and 2D site plan rendering of
improvements to the south side of Brit Spaugh Park.
The south side of the park, across the street from Park Elementary School,
currently has a small baseball field, horseshoe pits, parking lot and a spot
where an old BMX track used to be.
Great Bend Rec Executive Director Diann Henderson said there have been talks of
an outdoor basketball court, pickleball courts and a mini soccer pitch being
built at the location.
"We need to do the engineering to know where the easements are," said Henderson. "Some of that parking area may be usable, some of it may not. This will highlight any utilities coming through the property. We really need to know before we do any planning. This is the first step."
The City of Great Bend and the Rec Commission are entering a cost share agreement to split the $16,000 cost for the design phase of what is being referred to as the
Great Bend South Park project.
Professional Engineering Consultants (PEC) will handle the master plan
services, which is expected to be finished in three months.
