The City of Ellinwood purchased approximately 13 acres of ground 10 years ago with the thought of allowing citizens to build new homes in the community. City Administrator Chris Komarek said the area is in the northern section of town, north of the water tower, between 7th Street and 10th Street.
"We probably won't see any construction on that yet this year," said Komarek. "We'll have all the material purchased. We'll have the design laid out. It's hopeful that after the first of the year we can get up there and start installing the sewer and water lines. We'll need to bid out the curb and gutter project as well."
A street will be extended off of 10th Street as the main entrance to the new housing development. A north and south street into the development will come off Fritz Street.
Komarek expects about 14 lots to be available with curb and gutters, and for the moment gravel roads.
"The lots will be sold," said Komarek. "You'll have to purchase a lot. For the most part, the price of that lot is going to pay for the curb and gutter that's going to be installed there."
The lots will be at least 100 feet wide. Komarek said he has about nine or 10 people on a list that are interested in the lots, and three to four that are ready to build as soon as they’re available next year.
