The Great Bend Police Department has recently been operating at one over
their limit to be fully staffed. They’ll need that plus one as Corporal William
Browne has announced his retirement.
Great Bend City Administrator Kendal Francis said Browne has been serving with
the police department for 33 years, and the city will host a retirement
celebration on Friday, Dec. 9.
"There will be a come-and-go reception for Corporal Browne this Friday," said Francis. "It will start at 9 a.m. inside the municipal courtroom."
Browne began working with the GBPD in 1989. A native of Colorado, Browne
advanced in rank starting as a patrolman. Graduating from Allen County Community
College, the Great Bend Police Department has been Browne’s only law
enforcement position.
