A couple of years ago, the City of Great Bend started a community paint project. The idea is to create canvas murals to be placed in windows of unused buildings and stores downtown.
Great Bend Community Coordinator Christina Hayes
says the first one appeared near the Crest Theater and just recently a painting
was added to the windows of a vacant building along Main Street.
"Not only is this a project that the community worked on, it also helps fill our windows and is a brighter piece to our downtown," said Hayes.
The canvas is located in the old Hallmark shop owned by American State Bank. The
painting is on hooks and can easily be moved somewhere else if a store moves
into the building.
"Little kids as young as one year old helped paint this," Hayes added.
