Music teachers at the five elementary schools in Great Bend are getting a lot of help from an interactive computer program called Quaver.  It helps teach children about the basics of music based on their grade levels.

Members of the Great Bend Board of Education saw a demonstration of the program during a luncheon meeting at Riley Elementary School on Wednesday. Riley's music teacher Katie Knoles showed the board members how she and her students can access Quaver through a giant computer touchscreen. She gave an example of how the program works.

"Right now in third grade, we’re learning how to read music,” Knoles said. “They have videos for us on different things from dynamics, which is our loud and soft sounds, to reading music and different instrument families.”

The touchscreen can be adjusted up and down to accommodate children from each age group. Quaver's music curriculum is being used in more than 15,000 schools in all 50 states.
