
WICHITA, Kan. — KPTS - Channel 8 is hosting its 6th annual Veterans Coming Home Salute on Nov. 9. This event honors Kansas veterans who have demonstrated outstanding service to their country, fellow veterans and their community.
The highlight of this community event is the recognition of four veterans for their contributions. One recipient will receive the KPTS Robert J. Dole Distinguished Service Award and three other veterans will receive the KPTS Distinguished Veterans Coming Home Award. KPTS will also recognize a business for their support of veterans and present a “Can Do” award to a deserving veteran.
“Hundreds of veterans and supporters attend this special banquet and awards ceremony each year. It’s a time of celebration and inspiration,” says Victor Hogstrom, KPTS President and CEO.

The Adjutant General for Kansas Major General David A. Weishaar will deliver the keynote address at the Veterans Coming Salute. The Adjutant General’s department provides administration and training guidance for the Kansas Army and Air National Guard, among other responsibilities. Weishaar also serves as director of Kansas Emergency Management and is the director of Kansas Homeland Security.
