The gymnasium floors at Park Elementary and Eisenhower Elementary have been approved by the school board to be repaired and refinished.
Superintendent Khris Thexton says there were two completed proposals with Great American Hardwood Flooring from Wichita having the lowest bid of $24,650.
“That will complete Park and Eisenhower Elementary. They will sand the floors down to bare wood, and all the lines will be gone. They will repair the wood that has been damaged to create a solid foundation and then build it back up,” explained Thexton.
Thexton said Great American Hardwood Flooring is the company that refinished the middle school gymnasium and said there would be some upgrades to the two elementary gymnasiums as well.
“There will be volleyball sleeves added in there as they do have a volleyball unit. In the past, we have just rigged it up and attached it to the walls. We’d like to have it set up better to teach that lesson to the kids,” explained Thexton. “There will be metal thresholds that go around the floor that are expansion joints that allow for the floor to move as the weather changes.”
Thexton says any of the businesses that submitted bids would have been outstanding to work with but wanted one company to do both gym floors. The project will be paid for out of Capital Outlay Funding with plans to redo the gym floors in the other elementary schools in the future.
