A $4.5 million project to resurface K-156 in Barton County is expected to start soon.

The Kansas Department of Transportation project will involve a surface recycle, hot-mix-asphalt overlay and shoulder patching and overlay. The work will be from the junction of K-156/U.S. 56 northeast to the Barton/Ellsworth county line. The length is about 17 miles.

During the work – scheduled to start around Aug. 2 and be completed around the first of October – traffic will be restricted to one lane and controlled by flaggers and a pilot car. Motorists should be prepared to stop and face delays of up to 15 minutes.

Venture Corp., of Great Bend, is the primary contractor for the $4,508,111 project.
