At their next meeting, the Great Bend City Council will be presented information on creating a separate area for smaller dogs at the dog park at Veterans Memorial Park. The idea of creating a space for small dogs and large dogs was pitched last year as a quality-of-life sales tax project.

Assistant City Administrator Logan Burns said he will walk the council through their fencing plans at the July 1 meeting.

"This would separate the large dogs and small dogs in the park itself," said Burns. "It will help with some interaction between those dogs and their owners."

The initial plans last spring called for extending the dog park to the north for a separate gated area for small dogs. A quote from Eldridge Fencing of $12,875 for approximately 500 feet of fencing was made for the original plan. A suggestion was made to place a fence in the existing dog park, compartmentalizing the area, to cut down on the cost for a 4' tall chain link fence.
