On Tuesday, Jan. 19 at about 5:30 p.m., the Barton County Sheriff’s Office responded to a one-vehicle rollover accident west of the city of Great Bend.
Upon arrival in the 700 block of W. Barton County Road, Sheriff’s deputies discovered a red 2001 Dodge Dakota overturned in the north ditch.
Investigation indicates the vehicle was operated by James Miller, age 53 of rural Albert. Miller stated he swerved to avoid striking a deer at which time he struck two mailboxes, entered the north ditch striking a culvert and overturning.
The Great Bend Fire Department was able to extract Miller from the vehicle. The driver was transported to the University of Kansas Health Care Great Bend Campus for non-life-threatening injuries.
