Great Bend Recreation Commission Executive Director Diann Henderson says Eldridge Fencing and Concrete Services are doing everything they can to have the new tennis court fencing and concrete work done as soon as possible.
The original fencing from 1970 has been removed from both sets of tennis courts at Veterans Memorial Park and installation of the new fencing is going up at the west courts.
More aesthetics to the courts were approved for purchase at Monday’s
GBRC Board meeting, including two 42-inch square tables with four seats at the
east tennis courts.
"It is a seating area that perhaps tennis coaches could sit at," said Henderson. "There is not an area in which those teams can work their documentation from. This will be additional picnic-style seating on the west side of the east courts."
The two tables from Athco will cost $3,340. The board also approved the $8,415
purchase for eight bleachers, with four bleachers at each tennis court. GBRC
was also authorized to purchase four shade structures for the east courts for
$20,529.50. The tables and shade structures will be similar to the ones already
at the west courts.

Henderson noted when the fencing is complete and exact measurements are known,
the Rec plans to move forward with purchasing windscreens to line the fencing.
The $61,784 fencing project will enclose the courts and calls for two fences on
the north side of the perimeters to enclose the spectator area. Concrete
Services is pouring cement for sidewalks around both tennis courts for $30,392.
The work is expected to be complete by February.
