The City of Great Bend and Great Bend Recreation Commission held another
monthly meeting with Hellas Construction last week to receive an update on the
artificial turf installation at the Great Bend Sports Complex.
City Administrator Kendal Francis did not want to jinx the progress but told
the Great Bend City Council that the project is roughly a month ahead of
schedule.
"It is progressing well," said Francis. "It has been interesting to see how that stuff is put together. On paper, we're about five percent ahead of schedule."
The $1.36 million project will install turf on the infields and bullpen areas
at the four Sports Complex fields and nearby Langrehr Field.
Hellas has until Feb. 1, 2022 to complete the installation.
The Rec committed $200,000 and annual maintenance of the fields and the Great
Bend school district pledged $280,000. The city is responsible for the
remaining cost.
