As an athletic director, Barton Community College’s Trevor Rolfs is always looking for ways to improve facilities and the experience the college can give to student-athletes.
On Monday’s Cougar Pause program on 1590 KVGB & 95.5 FM, Rolfs mentioned once the COVID-19 pandemic hit last spring, cultivating sponsors, donors and fundraising were somewhat put on hold. The athletic director referred to renovation and addition plans on campus as a car that came to a screeching halt.
Now that the country is slowly starting to reemerge from the pandemic state, the keys to the car are off the shelf and the
door is at least unlocked.
"I think the momentum and response has been good," said Rolfs. "Basically after a year of nothing on that front, we can get back at it and try to make that dream a reality."
Prior to the pandemic last March, Rolfs stated his department was close to
developing pictures and plans for renovations to current facilities and an
addition to the south side of the Kirkman Center, which houses the basketball gym.
"There are a lot of things we could do with our current facilities and reorganizing," said Rolfs. "We've done a lot over the last 10 years, but there is so much more we could do to make this place even greater. I'm excited to get back at that."
Anyone interested in donating to the Barton athletic department can contact Rolfs at 620-792-9378 or [email protected].
"Not to let the cat out of the bag, but some big developments and big commitments are coming in the near future."
