Great Bend's school nurses took center stage at this month's USD 428 Board of Education meeting. They were honored with the ROSE award which stands for Recognizing Outstanding Support of Education.
Schools Superintendent Khris Thexton explained why the school district's nurses and nurse aides received the recognition.
"The nurses from our school district have taken on an extreme burden and have worked above and beyond for students, parents and staff to support everyone in the midst of the pandemic," Thexton declared. "Nurses have taken the roles of contract tracing, community health liaison, deliverer of 14-day quarantines, and all their regular duties. They have done all of this with patience and grace, supporting crying students, upset parents, and overwhelmed teachers."
Thexton said the nurses often worked weekends, late into the night and even on their days off when they were needed. He presented each with a plaque to commemorate their sacrifices.
