The 10th year of the Great Bend Sports Complex being home to
the Kansas Collegiate Athletics Conference baseball and softball championships
wrapped up this past weekend, and Great Bend Recreation Commission Director Chris
Umphres said there was a lot of exciting games this year.
McPherson College won the baseball tournament and Avila University earned the
softball championship. Umphres updated the GBRC Board on Monday that usually
this tournament brings a bunch of rain to town. The four-day tournament
remained dry and for the most part on schedule.
"We did have a one-hour lightning delay," said Umphres. "In that game, the score was 11-0 in the seventh inning. There was the hour lightning delay, came back and the game ended up being 11-10. That team that came back in the last two innings had the tying run at third base, they hit a line drive, but the third baseman Superman dove to catch it and end the game. There was some good baseball and softball games this year."
The KCAC announced both the softball and baseball championships will remain in
Great Bend through the 2025 season.
The Great Bend Rec will now get ready to host the Class 2-1A high school State Baseball
Tournament May 25-26.
