The Great Bend school district is looking for full-time certified teachers to begin teaching at the beginning of the next school semester. School administrators want to fill teaching positions that are currently held by substitute teachers. Assistant Schools Superintendent John Popp told members of the school board at their meeting this week that he is optimistic.
"We’re starting to recruit,” Popp reported. “We're publishing the positions that we have filled with long-term subs at this point to see if we can get anybody at semester. We traditionally have had pretty decent luck at hiring a few people at semester. Not saying we’ll get them all filled, but we’re going to try to get a few of them filled at semester and then free up more of our substitutes to be able to sub in the buildings.”
Popp told board members at an earlier board meeting that almost every long-term substitute teacher has plans to become a fully licensed teacher. He added that the school district is helping them reach that goal.
