The City of Great Bend owns the building that houses the Great Bend Public Library. Last year, the city entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the library in regards to maintenance of the facility and each party’s responsibilities.

One of the items mentioned in the MOU was insurance coverage. Due to the complexity of insurance coverages and somewhat confusing terminology, the city realizes that they need to better clarify the coverages for which each party is financially responsible.

City Administrator Kendal Francis says some of the insurance responsibility will go back to the library.

"The changes clarify that the city will only pay general liability insurance on the real estate and improvements," said Francis. "All other insurance coverage will be borne by the library."

The city will continue to pay general liability insurance on the real estate and improvements but all other insurance will fall upon the library.

The library submits its annual budget request to the city by May 20 each year.
